Songdo recently won the HQ hosting of the new U.N Green Climate Fund GFC = Developed nations agreed in 2009 to raise climate aid, now about $US10 billion ($9.6 billion) a year, to an annual $US100 billion from 2020 to help developing countries curb greenhouse gas emissions and cope with floods, droughts, heatwaves and rising sea levels This fund will be handled by the members from many developed nations in Songdo A huge plus for any city - it will put Songdo on a map at global level :)
Unlike Dubai, China and Korea actually has enough demand for these projects and they're both running out of space while one being a first world nation and the other being the fastest growing nation.
@FanOfYunaKim Its probably because when you see a bad idea with a lack of street interaction for the pedestrian you feel obligated to say something. Canal and Casbah both have the right idea, they understand scale, proximity and density, i think. However, everywhere else looks like failed corbu inspired projects fragmented by grass lands, which designers continually refuse to give up. I hope they have great infrastructure for public transportation otherwise, FAIL.
It's beautiful in its own way, but I don't see any room in the plan for something like Itaewon. Can't help but feel like the quest to master and exploit the principles behind urban planning and design is so academic that it ends up removing the potential for organic development in the name of solving and preventing "problems." This city allows masses of people to efficiently live a completely mundane life -- go to school, get a job (with as little time lost as possible on the commute), spend money at the mall, and go to the hospital if they're sick. No room in the city for something with a life of its own, but at least there are trees to look at while you're walking in one of the many identical neighborhoods. And there's a culture park to consume premeditated culture as opposed to just going to a neighborhood that developed its own.
eds9384 Couldn't agree more. And who are the people who can afford to live in these kinds of "community"? Only those who can afford. I haven't lived in a condo complex and I've always wondered how people (no related by blood) build relationships in such settings. Maybe I'm just being idealistic since I come from a culture with close family ties and strong sense of community. I'm visiting South Korea for the first time by the end of this month and I sure have Songdo in my itinerary. I want to "sense" it
It's like someone enabled money and development level cheat mode in Sim City and just copied the perfect city they made into real life. It's a bloody shame the video isn't in 1080p though, an absolute shame.
well,it doesn't look at futuristic..the high rise buildings are block type generic shaped, and obviously -there's no "skytrain",as you can tell from the video, cars are still on the roads.. so this developent isnt truely "futuristic...
that golf course is just too big. great another sure to be overpriced, superficial, shallow city. 'modeling itself after Manhattan' ?? hahahaha. ninja please. but I do agree that it should be made. living in Seoul is just SOOO crowded and congested, I'm sure this city will alleviate some of the pressure from Seoul.
just saw this on tv...and as a civil and arch student and a big fan of computers!!! i have to say this city is amazing!!!!
wow....looking at this video 14 years later...it feels weird...
Amazing! This city of Songdo is the very fulfillment of the future Prophecy of the Smart City of Olympus! The Alpha Team would be very proud!
Amazing portions of Songdo IBD are nearing completion in 2009, but much more is planned. It's a huge project that will take years to unfold.

Sigur Ros - Njosnavelin
Though on this video it´s some kind of loop roughly cutted from the original. You can hear where it starts to loop.
where is the g-tower?
Can't see anywhere for parking?
It's actually underground. All of it.

Yup. Afterall, bukake was invented in Japan. You cannot get more advanced than that!

А выглядит всё как обычные проэкты.
저렇게되면 서울 뺨치고 서울을 뛰어넘어 세계적 도시로갈수있을듯
저리 안됨유! 그냥 아파트 아파트 아파트

Don't put too much stock into economic projections. All they mean is that if everything stay the same than we can expect such an such.
a terrorist attack would destroy the whole city like dominos
nice project
Great! all we need are just flying cars!
@dathribab i know but if they did. the whole city would collapse on each other

지금은 아파트밖에없던데.. 어떻게된건지....
that's utopia...
απλά έχω μείνει άφωνη, θέλω και γω να πάω να ζήσω εκεί..
why the hate towards the japanese people. They are a more advanced people than the south koreans, did you not know that.
don't believe the hype too much.
