Actually when you look at sofascore stats you'll see that Icardi was called up more than a few times for Argentina and if he came off the bench he barely made an impact. Very mid to mediocre performances. And during the end of 2021 and all throughout 2022 he was a horrible player for PSG. So it wasn't like Messi was keeping some superplayer off the national team, cutting out Icardi was actually the right decision footballwise.

Actually when you look at sofascore stats you'll see that Icardi was called up more than a few times for Argentina and if he came off the bench he barely made an impact. Very mid to mediocre performances. And during the end of 2021 and all throughout 2022 he was a horrible player for PSG. So it wasn't like Messi was keeping some superplayer off the national team, cutting out Icardi was actually the right decision footballwise.
