as a former combat MARINE and former state trooper I'm gonna make this very simple for everyone to understand i took an oath to defend and protect the constitution of every single AMERICAN with or without a record so i say this strongly it doesn't matter if it's violent or nonviolent your 2nd amendment cannot not be taken away no matter what. it doesn't matter if you have a legal or an illegal firearm if you commit a crime with it you are going to jail with or without a record its that simple. a firearm is to hunt for food and to protect yourself & family. it doesn't matter if you commit a crime with or without a firearm you are being charged for the crime itself and you are going to pay for that crime it's that simple. i still don't know what part of INFRINGED in the 2nd amendment these lawmaker's do not understand. you take away a person's right to protect themselves you make him or her a permanent victim & prey sorry children the SCOTUS that is to uphold the constitution violated your rights at birth saying mommy or daddy are not allowed to protect your life cause of something they've done in the past so they have to watch and let someone take yours so the government can put that person in prison that's more important than your innocent life

@@1coryahicksThe contract you sign says you will not own a firearm or black powder firearm while on probation. That is supervised and unsupervised. For me I had to do 1 year supervised probation and 10 years of unsupervised probation. So, after release for me I had to wait 11 years before I could file for my civil liberties back and then I could petition the court for my gun rights. But, that doesn't stop you from having to check boxes for jobs and places to rent. No place rents to a felony near me. I have to wait 5 more years after being released from unsupervised probation to be eligible for a Simple pardon. So in total for me I needed 16 years after release for a simple pardon. I am at 18 years and still do not have my rights. I was told incorrect information and found out a month ago I have been eligible. Even though their contract doesn't hold I would still be convicted as a felon in possession even after their contract ends.

@@sharonm.8411😆 lol, you think all criminals are never rehabilitated? You think all are dangerous? Pretty broad brush you're using.
You do know up until 1970s, they allowed felons to.join the military? You know in vast majority of states, felons can vote? If they finished their sentence, aren't on parole or probation, then rights should be restored.
The last 30-40 years, there's been an increase in the number of felonies on the books, and of overall felons in the America has increased exponentially as things that were 40 years ago a misdemeanor have been increased to felony. Example: do a little bit of vandalism or graffiti that can be a felony. Get a serious DUI in an accident? That can be a felony. Maybe as a girl scout troop leader you spent some of the money that was allocated for the troop on yourself. Boom felony.
Got an overzealous prosecutor that's mad because you supported Trump and protested outside the capitol? Felony.

I personally don't care what a person did in their past. If that person who has done their time and is to be a part of the people aka released back into society. That person once they are released should have every single one of their rights restored to them. The government does not have the right to take away your ability hunt or to protect yourself and your family. Anything and everything else is a perfect example of a cruel and unusual punishment.

So for 21 years I have nothing more then a speeding ticket...yet I'm not allowed to protect my family. Well ill be damn. I thank the ones in government that is finally doing something about this. Anyone should be able to have a gun to hunt or defend there self and family. Instead of us being sitting ducks. Alot of people out here just made a mistake in life. And most every single person in this world has done something that could have landed their butt in jail or prison at some point on their life. They just wasn't caught. I believe in the constitution and I stand as a patriot to this great country of mine. And I will stand with every single man or woman with fire arm in hand to defend this country. I did time in NC as a felon. I myself can not bear arms because I didn't have non violent felony charges. People I knew with felony drug charges or felony theft that didn't involve a gun were able to bear arms. Which is weird to me because the two major differences between me and those other people are: 1. Those people didn't didn't get caught with their guns even though as drug dealers, I promise, they used their guns illegally more than once. 2. Those people have gotten arrested more than once on felony charges and still got to keep their guns where I made the one time at 18 and never been back (even to jail) but still can't carry a firearm 27 years later. The 2nd amendment isn't a right; it's a privilege. Like freedom to travel is a right but driving a car legally is a privilege. If a "freedom" can be taken away, it's a privilege. Unlike the other inalienable rights like religion, speech, etc.

Shall not be infringed. Every single free man has the god given right to carry a gun and protect himself. If they can’t be trusted with a gun they shouldn’t be free. Once a man pays his dues and is released from prison that’s it. He was punished. It’s over. The day you get out of prison you should be able to go straight to the gun store.

I made a lot of dumb mistakes when I was in my teens and twenties. I did my time... paid my debt to society. I got out in 2007. I honestly have no excuses for what I did. I screwed up.
Here I am in my 40's with no gun rights and a family. I constantly think about my wife and our 9 year old little girl and protecting her. I'm screwed if someone decides to break into my house with a gun. I have a dog and that's the only sense of protection I have. Haven't been in trouble in years. Heck I haven't even gotten a speeding ticket in over 10 years. The laws need to change.
The weird thing is in my state of Lousiana, after 10 years of serving your sentence or probabtion/parole you get your gun rights back automatically but federal law states you lose them forever.

The way you explained this was very good. Not to mention bad days some have, and "good days" that others have that the police don't catch. If you know what I mean. So it can never be based on moral. Laws should be put in place to punish law breakers, but deterrents and prevention are ambiguous, subject to the whims you spoke about. It should be anyone can have a gun, but if you use it for anything other than self defense and hunting- by by you go away for a long time- not you go away for 10-30 years just for having it.

@@USCCAOfficialNot sure what that does anymore. I have a possession charge for a homemade firecracker they called a destructive device back in 1995. I was given 6 years joint suspension (this is in CA). I finished probation 3 years early and completed all requirements. Never doesn't a day in state custody. Never re-offended. Last year, I was given an expungement. Felony was "set aside", "dismissed", whatever. Lawyer told me it has been reduced to a misdemeanor first 17b), so I tried a NCIS check on a transfer from a friend of mine. Rejected. Challenged because I thought it was a mistake. FBI came back twice saying because it was a suspended prison sentence, it was not eligible to be reduced to a misdemeanor, and being expunged didn't change my lifetime ban. Now my only option is a governor's pardon. Just an FYI. Expunging felonies didn't restore gun rights. There's only restored if the felony is reduced first and then dismissed.
