    I love your videos Johnny. You're one of the only locals to my area I can find on here, seriously appreciate your generosity in sharing knowledge and showing exactly the terrain you find mushrooms in. Still hunting for my first lobster, will find it this year i know it.

    Arkansas Ozark mountains here. I have a dog that points out mushrooms. "Rosy" successfully finds false and true morels, chantarelles, etc. We have so far discovered, harvested, and eaten 17 different edible mushrooms in this area. It stays foggy in the valleys year round here. Rosy already found some false morels last week. we're going out today before a light freeze comes down . I appreciate your videos. Wish us Luck/Morels

    A buddy and I would hunt morels together every year.. he had a theory and he was trying to tie "dutch elm disease" and finding mushrooms.. I suppose it would make sense as most of the time, here in southeastern Minnesota, we would find alot of morels near dead elm trees.. he would ask me if I could smell 'em!?!?.. and would answer himself and reply.. I can smell 'em! and I know there here.. we would usually return home with at least a couple of bread bags full of morels.

    Loving your videos brother! What's the most you have ever found in a day? Or the most around one tree? Here in Southern Ontario, they aren't quite as prolific and mother loads are very hard to find, they are around for sure, but tend to be scattered with just a few here and there. Sometimes I'll get lucky and find 20 or 30 under a dead elm but that is about as good as it gets here

      Thank so much Joe! Man I can talk forever with these questions. Most one day..120 lbs one tree maybe...8 lbs. But of course this is rare. I've got 40 yrs experience picking on a local level. Second best day would be maybe..30 lbs. I don't have conifer forest and burns like where the true royal flushes happen. I focus on simply covering as much ground as possible. More ground then most believe when I tell them or would attempt. To really confuse you the most I found in one day and season the morels came from a forest that was 90% dominated with Black Willow trees. You won't here anyone else say that!

    • @joet81
      @joet81 Год назад

      @@johnnyfish6051 wow that's crazy! I would die a happy man if I could find 120 lb in one day LOL! I know what you mean when talking about covering distance. Most people don't want to go foraging with me because I put so many miles on in a day. I teach foraging wild edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms here in Southern Ontario. I'm essentially obsessed with it and I probably forage for about 30 to 40 hours a week LOL. That's why I'm going through mushroom withdrawal right now! Nothing much to find in the winter time where I live, so I mostly just fish. That's crazy that you found them around blackwillow! I definitely don't hear many people talking about that! Here in Southern Ontario I find a lot of morels near Spruce and pine trees and nobody else looks for them there. Definitely don't find the motherlode in those areas, but a big Spruce or pine tree with some grass near it can produce anywhere from a couple mushrooms to 50 of them. I have also been hearing about people finding them in Eastern Cedar stands, so I'm going to try looking around them this year as well. Your season probably starts pretty soon won't it?
