John Bokelo was a legend. This type of music brings those old memories in the 1970's when such kind of music used to blast in the middle of nights. Schools used to hold concerts during weekends as a way of fundraising. We would dance the whole night till morning. Such rhumba songs bring back those old memories.
John Bokelo had an amazing voice. With behind arrangements, especially the unique sax's, he produced excellent music. Rest in everlasting peace. Dr. Ogeto International
Now I know that most of the Congo music I grew up listening to... and enjoyed was from Johnny Bekelo and his group. We attributed every Congo music we heard to the great Ok. Jazz--not true. In my opinion, Johnny Bekelo and his band did give Ok. Jazz a good run for his music. Powerful music!
.....we danced to these in our years in secondary schools in the 60s.....and both the rhythm and words became literally our very essence!!!!

Brings fond memories when I was an undergraduate in Nairobi University in 1960s
Remind me of my high school days in the sixties.
My wife’s grandma used to listen to this in Zambia
