you know, you guys were joking about people dying before finishing the game, but i actually do have the save file of a kid that died. its really humbling. kid played a lot of emerald back in the day and had a shiny horsea that he never got to train up. i turned it into a kingdra like a week ago. got the cartridge because the kids mom was friends with my dad and it ended up in my hands. im never getting rid of that save file, even if it means i never get to play my own emerald adventure.
(Edit: Yes guys I know the save can be backed up by external means. I don't have that at my disposal right now. I appreciate the replies but at least 4 or 5 different people have said this now 🙏)
This is a crazy story.
I'm sure there are more real cases of people passing or maybe having their family sell the game before the player can beat it but I just mainly find it funny people imagine these crazy scenarios when it's way more likely whoever played it before just got tired of the game and moved on haha

@Starfluff8 i hope so :) i kept most of them on the game but i did transfer a few up to modern gen to at least give a few of them that experience. sometimes i do battles or raids with them. itd be nice if somewhere out in the wide world, he knows im keeping the memories alive and even creating new ones.

I bought a Japanese copy of White and the person had 300+ hours logged in, had a decent amount of legendaries and even a Victini caught from Liberty Garden! I checked its caught date and it matches up, plus they have the wonder card for it too. So that’s likely a legit Liberty Garden Victini!
reminded me of when i bought a used japanese copy of black 2 it had a lot of level 50 pokemon and did a lot of random matchup battles
i had a legit liberty garden victini as a kid. Was about 7 and didn’t know how rare it was. Traded it on the GTS for one of the starters and 1 hour later majorly regretted the decision Lol. Reset my game and everything after but it was to late to do the event again😢

I remember buying my used copy of HeartGold from Gamestop when i was a kid. Turns out the original owner was about to fight Lance, had a team stuffed with heavy hitters (Gyarados, Dragonite, Snorlax, Mewtwo, etc) and shockingly also had what i believe to be a legitimate japanese Mew from the Hoenn Mew event back in the day. I think i screamed when I saw it pop out of the pokeball behind the trainer!
(Naturally, I beat Lance for him and then transferred as many valuable pokemon as possible from that file before i wiped it to play my own run. I also remember he had a Prinplup named I. Thats it, just the letter I.)
And how do you know it was a legitimate one?
I could, for example, get the events in Firered/Leafgreen for Lugia and Ho-Oh + Deoxys and could say that the encounter should be shiny. Yet those events never came where I live

Michael reminds me of a dude I used to play Pokémon with in middle/high school. I traded a lot with him because I completed my Black and White dex and never got them traded back. Idk for sure unless the save has data of a shiny Garchomp he piloted religiously probably in the Hall of Fame. One of my fondest memories is having my Chatot land a Guillotine on it after he missed and I used Mimic. If so, I can verify that Giratina might be from the GameStop 2013 event. Latios I am less sure of but maybe a Wonder Trade or from a previous gen that I transferred over.
5:47 As someone who played Pokemon Y RELIGIOUSLY when it first came out and also have over 1000 hours in it, worked on a living shiny dex, and have seen competitive play when online wasn't dominated by hacked mons, I can safely say that Michael was one of the goats.
Seeing that save file brought back so many memories of trading shinies and grinding good mons for competitive play. That kind of dedication can rack up hours easily when you're young and have hours of free time lmao

I'm inching up on 400 hours currently on my X save (shiny eevee hunting) and yep. that man was dedicated and legit.
the comunity was at it's best in those days, all the FB trading groups and trustworthy players, my Y is at 1200 hrs, but i do reset my X for a nostolgic playthough every now n then
About the emerald file. Take rubbing alcohol on a q tip and rub off the cobber connectors, you don't even have to open it up. You could even use water if you dry it off properly PS: If you're scared about breaking it, just let it try for a longer time, it's water (minerals in it) leading electricity connecting parts of the chip thats not supposed to be connected that fries / breaks it, so if you make sure it's dry, there will be no harm. Rubbing alcohol does not corrode it, doesn't lead electricity and dries real fast so it's ideal. Anyways, don't be scared to get it working, had to do this with second hand games and one of my childhood games when they got dirty

I still miss my old copy of pokemon X. I was legit right in front of the entrance to where you fight zygarde, and for some reason my 3ds's cartridge ready just stopped working. Absolutely nothing worked to fix it. Then my mom got into some financial trouble and sold my copy of X for a super low amount. I dont blame her but I do miss my original copy of X.
That Alola File with the Raiden name is dated around 2017 which means it's either Metal Gear Raiden or Mortal Kombat Raiden

i remember wanting one pokemon game from every region. and i always explored there save files before i restarted. It's really fun seeing how the person before you played and thier story so you can make yours.
Nah naming your Pokémon a slur is wild it reminds me of the time I bought a used mystery dungeon game and the player and partner were named after cuss words and the team was named after cuss words too lol

Yeah, like... one of my favorite Pokémon in any of my games is my eviolite Spritzee from my original Y. But one of my OTHER favorite Pokémon is my Galarian Zapdos I reset to have a mark in Shield. I don't think I'm somehow a ~better gamer~ for using the Spritzee. I just used the species I like most because these are single player games meant for, y'know, fun LOL
Plus those three birds are not stupid broken strong at all, just above average to amazing pokemon, especially Zapdos

I got a file of pearl and a guy named Marcus got the game, saw 3 pokemon got 1 (starter) and all he had was a level 7 chimchar that took 4 damage and he sold the game before getting the pokeballs

this was a childhood dream of mine!!!! i always wanted to buy a ton of pokemon games and see what i could find, hoping there'd be extremely good pokemon and a story behind the file 😭 would always ask my parents to buy me a used pokemon game for holidays since that's the only time i'd get a game, and one time in platinum there was a save file full of action replay shinies and stuff, i never lost that high lol even though most are wiped files. thank you for doing this series because it scratches that itch as a kid who was so obsessed with this concept of getting a ton of games to explore the save files but grew up in a poor family ❤😭
You inspired me to buy some extra copies of the 3DS games to check out the save files. I got an awesome copy of Y, where the player (named Maximus) got 7 badges in and seemingly got confused on how to progress the game to the final gym. They also never connected their game to the internet, so all the Pokemon are still on there and he was getting popups about trying out the online features. I have now finished the last gym for him and am making my way through the Elite Four. Do I need a second copy of Y? No. But was it fun to see the save game and finish it? Heck yeah!

I had an action replay for my original DS when I was a kid and out there, I definitely left behind a copy of Pokemon Pearl with an insane number of hacked shinies that somebody could've stumbled upon.

Recently brought a Pokemon Pearl played by "Evelyn", no badges, in jubilife and they had some pokemon they'd traded in as eggs. This included a pichu with volt tackle, munchlax with psychic and rest, riolu with brick break and a pidgey. They also had all of the gen 4 starters.
At 7:52 this Danny probably obtain the encounter with shiny regirock, and like you, realise he didn't have enough ball to capture, so he abandon and sell the game !
For the Emerald save, sometimes taking the sticker off the back helps the gameboy read it better. Just had to do that with a copy of Super Mario Advance 4, and now it works like a charm. You don’t even have to necessarily take the cartridge apart, though I did so I could get some goo gone on the sticker residue.

My friend bought a copy of white 2 that had a few hacked pokemon on it. One of our favourites on there was a white kyurem with wonder guard. there were also like 5 shiny zekroms holding a cover fossil

I once had a copy of Sun, Y, and ultramoon all complete Pokédex’s and loved to shiny hunt on them. But unfortunately my parents needed money and had to pawn them but before we could get them back the pawnshop put them out before our payment date or whatever it is I don’t remember what is called but I never saw them again. Also had Pokémon sword which I shiny hunted the most on and that got lost. As along with platinum and black 2 but I never hunted on those. Shiny hunting was never the same after that I used to love shiny hunting but now it’s not even enjoyable for me. I believe I was like 17 and I remember crying so hard because I put so much time and effort into those games I loved them so much.

I remember when I was gifted a copy of Alpha Sapphire with my 3DS as a kid. The copy must have been used because I was inside the Battle Resort or something like that, and they had multiple legendries on the team (Kyogre and Rayquaza were definitely in the team). Me, having just obtained a 3DS, did not know something like Pokemon Bank existed and just... wiped the save file so I could do my own playthrough. I still slightly regret it to this day whenever I think about it.
I bought a used Black 2 and it had the 2012 OG Event Gensect, Fused Kyurem, The 3 Swords of Justice and a full set of Level 75 Mons. However, there were little mons beyond that...

my 3ds with AS and PkMn Y were pawned when i was a kid along with my Nes controller 3ds still butthurt about that, they were sold so my mother could afford to food, in a better situation now, but still it does happened it happened to me, i had almost completed the pokedex in y and had tons of shiny legends on AS.
If I still kepted my shinys and team he'd flip out over my 286:48 hours. I still have some event pokemon there and super old pokemon from 2015.
Hurts my heart seeing these prices and seeing prices of resellers when I used to have some of these games and they were originally only $40😭😭😭😭
