    There's this side quest where a criminal turned to religion and wants to be crucified on camera, at one point V & Johnny start debating on the nature of Johnny being here in V's mind, if he's a ghost or a spirit, or if God exist and all.
    It was one of the game's most interesting moments

      Yeah there's tons of interesting and amazing moments in the game. It took me 109 hrs to beat my first playthrough, only things I didn't complete was all of the gigs and after listening to some reviews and discussions I'm honestly shocked how many people just drove from point A to point B, main mission to main mission, and "beat" the game in 20-30 hours.
      I think Cyberpunk rewards the kind of player who slows down and takes in the sights and sounds of Night City.

      It is strange because to me - there were no main and not main game missions. Everything in this game felt connected and meaningful. There are no "lets put more of this so the game would be played longer" crap, like Assassins Creed for example. No, the game was just too ambitious for its own good, but its better to go down in a blaze, than to live a mundane life. That ideology is just what CDPR and this game are. Beautiful mess for many, but almost glitchless to some. My second favorite game of all time.

    Yeah, Johnny's questline really brings the whole story together. I don't understand why it's optional. The emotional impact the ending had on me would not have been half as powerful had I not done this quest. It's absolutely crucial

    • @chickensoupboi
      @chickensoupboi 3 года назад +107

      It's optional because it was kinda the point. The idea that these tender, human moments can be missed only add to their importance and impact. There's the main quests, what you have to do, and then the side gigs are what you want to do, and you don't have to help Johnny, but if you do you're rewarded with more than just experience, but an opportunity to understand and bond with him, like how a similar situation would in the real world. The game wants you to forge these connections and live your life, and the side gigs add to that greatly.

    • @JeremyComans
      @JeremyComans 3 года назад +42

      I like important stuff being optional because it means it is up to the player, V, to decide whether or not they care about Johnny (or any of the other characters with major quest chains).
      At least in scenarios such as in Cyberpunk, where important optional content isn't hidden, and doesn't require finicky pre-requisites, you just need to show interest in what's in front of you.

    • @cookiemonster59263
      @cookiemonster59263 3 года назад +18

      If I hadn't done that side quest, I don't think I would've had the ending I did, that being (spoilers inbound) taking the Aldecados to Mikoshi and then ultimately giving the body to Johnny. V didn't have anything to prove anymore. They had a family, one that they'd made. They would be remembered by the ones they loved. Johnny got a chance to finally stop living for making an impact and live for himself, thanking V at their grave before taking a bus out of Night City and leaving his old habits behind.
      It's bittersweet as hell, but it really encapsulates the "it's never too late to change" and the "the things you do have more of an impact then you know" messages of the game. It's a shame it's presented in a visual manner that's so poor when the story it's trying to tell had me in tears.

    • @RuptimusPrime
      @RuptimusPrime 3 года назад +10

      @@chickensoupboi
      But then you have people who play this because they hear the story is great even if you don't like the mechanics, rush through the main quest thinking that's basically the story, and then reach the end and don't get what the big deal was.
      It's just a shame that something this important can and will be missed by a lot of people.

    • @chickensoupboi
      @chickensoupboi 3 года назад +7

      @@RuptimusPrime the story by itself is good, and I will say I think they should have made it a bit more clear that the side quests were just as important, but otherwise i think my point still stands. The fact that it can be missed makes it all the more important imo. To better explain my point, the main gigs are what V has to do, while the side gigs are what you want to do. If you want to help someone out in real life, you dont get xp, you get opportunities to know, feel, understand, and bond with them. The same applies to the side quests to flesh out the human characters. You don't have to help Johnny, you don't have to help Panam, you don't have to help the Peralezs, but you have to save yourself and figure out the chip stuff before you die. Choosing to go out of your way to help them and becoming closer as a result adds to the sense of living the last moments of your life and the sense of player choice through actions prevelant through the game. They're not just side quests, they're people you could easily ignore, and that only adds to how treasured those moments should be.
      I think a lot if the people who did rush through the game probably didn't just do it because of mechanics but because they were just expecting a GTA clone and got pissed when they got an immersive sim RPG. These are probably the same people who were screaming at CDPR over why it was first person.

Even the horseriding Gwent tourneys and fistfights had thought out writing behind them unlike the fistfights and races in this game. Don't get me started on the car buying or stop this gang texts. As much as I love RDR2 and how realistic and connected I felt to that game, there is something so... Hauntingly lonely about this game. The feeling of your one partner in crime/good buddy who truly was by your side in the big city who was wrenched away far too early (and this is a good thing from a storytelling perspective). Where you're forced to try to make human connections and contemplate what you actually want all on your own.
      Mama Welles and Misty and Vic say don't be a stranger but they're still grieving, and nothing is the same.
      And then you meet people like Jefferson Peralez and realise how truly fucked up the city/corpos are, and you start to get why Johnny is so goddamn angry. You see River and Judy and Panam and even Takemura and everyone all trying to live in the shadow of their own pasts too - the shadow of the city and the people who keep everything going in this twisted way. When you realise the civilians, gangs, employees and even nomads are all being manipulated somehow and it's all kind of connected.
      It's a harrowing thought. That everyone else is as fucked as you even with a ticking time bomb in your head.
      Yet all the side shit and the very human people you meet stand in stark contrast and it's all really, really powerful.

      Tbh as much as they were being crunched to hell for this, it's not just a matter of the publishers demanding too much from the devs. A massive part of developing anything is understanding how ambitious your idea is and whether or not you can actually pull it off in the current era. Deadlines exist not just to pressure devs but also because a certain amount of sales are needed to be able to actually get a return on investment. Consumers were demanding to the point of death threats trying to force the devs to release the game and NOW we're going to blame publishers for forcing a deadline? The world looks incredible and I'm incredibly impressed with what they were able to achieve here, but its clear that the game had no chance of releasing to the level of completion that the devs actually wanted in the current state of the gaming industry. Just like MGSV, Cyberpunk shows us how overly ambitious games are no longer incentivized not only by publishers, but also by the incredibly demanding gamers of today.

    • @veeveepaws

      @@GoScience123 @balsanova sure, there were toxic fans who were pushing the game's release, but consumers are not at fault for management announcing new release dates to pressure their devs, mandating 6 day weeks, and lying to investors about the state of the game. Not least because, as loud as they may be, the entitled brat side of the fandom is a tiny minority. Fundamentally, this was a matter of poor management; although possibly a factor, fan toxicity is not the primary reason for the circumstances of the game's production, nor its current state. And if it did filter through in some way, this is once again a major failing of CD Projekt's managers for listening to it, given that it is the job of management to focus a project and keep things in perspective.

      Why then, are hard working developers getting shit for blame that should go on publishers and high level management?

    Part of what makes all the side content of Cyberpunk 2077 so amazing to me is the fact that it can be missed, making it feel all the more important, emotional, sacred, and human.
    The game's story has mainly 4 themes: your life, your death, human relationships, and the legacy left behind by all three. The game's plot focuses on V having what is effectively a haunted inoperable brain tumor, and as a result V is given a new chance at whatever life he/she has left, interacting with friends, family, and leaving a positive, or in some cases an unfortunately negative or grey impact before what may be the inevitable end. It wants you to live your life and do what you can, while you can, before you can't anymore. Amazingly well written story elements like this is exactly why Cyberpunk 2077, despite it's many technical issues (trust me I'm playing on PS4 Pro, though it actually works much better than base console), has become one of my favorite game stories ever, and definitely my goty.
    It really sucks what's happening with the upper management at CDPR though, especially with crunch, which unfortunately is very personal to me since I had to live through it's effects all throughout my childhood due to my Dad going though similar abuses working in Cybersecurity, causing long term mental and physical health issues for both of us. As someone who has been directly affected by crunch and workplace abuse, I really wish that the criticism towards this game is directed at the higher ups, not CDPR as a whole, and that this game can hopefully recover.
    Also Writing on Games, or anyone else for that matter that may be reading, please have a happy holiday and good new year. We could all use that.

      True, and it was final quest of the best questline in the game. Whole story of search for Evelyn with Judy and then Judy trying to somehow avenge Evelyn was for me personally much, much better then the main story. The game would be many times better IMO if there was more quests about such common people then all this affair with Arasaka and biochip. First of all it is much more realistic questline. It shows common people losing with the city, its gangs and general evilness. It shows that person is there nothing, just a resource for gangs or corporations and it's weakness will be abused ruthlessly by others. At the same time the main story is a fairy tale in which we are a hero who brings to knees the most powerful corporation of the world (in most of the endings) with some help of powerful sorceress or goddess (played here by AI).

Sliverhand talks about seeing corps come in and strip farmers of land and water and how they basically leave a wake of used up souls when they come through if I remember. It brought me back to my childhood seeing all these mom and pop business in my small town go out of business because they couldn't compete with Walmart. And I thought even as a kid that this is wrong. Crush the little guys and gals prospects and possibly dreams in the name of profit. Not quite from the start but maybe quicker than others I had already sided with silverhand. That's also a cool thing in the game to, how he sees you. I'm on a 3rd playthrough and idk what I did but he's way more hostile than he was on my others. And the depth and nuance they add to Johnny over the course of the game are fantastic. The first gave you a very personal connection with Judy (more so than Johnny even), the second is generally a fun time discovering an AI trying to make sense of its personality(s), the third is nightmare fuel involving children and farms, and the fourth presents you an interesting dilemma about faith that can be hard to watch if you follow through with it. But the one that stuck with me most has to be the Jefferson and Elizabeth Paralez quest, how it ends (inconclusively) still gives me the heebie jeebies.

Panam's with the Star tarot card associated with hope really make me wish that V is gonna be alright and be able to live with his lover far away from a city that took everything from him. On the other end, Johnny tarot is the Sun, which mean success and in the ending you clearly see that V managed to attained the legendary status he wanted. I feel they each represent one of the two main components of the game. Panam representing somewhat the will to survive at any cost and to not be alone in death, something that becomes more predominant as you advance troughout the story with Johnny who I feel know that being a dead legend without anyone isn't really worth it. Johnny representing the success that V was after in the beginning of the game. I'm really excited for DLCs that are gonna flesh out more the endings and give us a closure to the game like Blood and Wine did with the Witcher

    !MINOR SPOILER! What really made the game for me were the series of particular tiny interaction with/around Takemura. I was on my second playthrough and had completely missed it the first time around, because I was too eager to get to Wakako's office during "Down on the Street" mission. On my second try, I found myself looking around the Jig Jig street when some random old chap began to bug Takemura, having confused him for the Hideshi Hino, the comedian. Depending on how you interact with the two also affects how you can introduce Takemura to Wakako shortly after this scene, prompting a hilarious response from Goro. If this wasn't enough, if you later come across Hideshi Hino's poster in the game, V gets to additionally interact with it. The subtlety of the humour and the personal touch that this has added to V's and Goro's relationship really made me feel like I was fully immersed into this game's world - I was genuinely laughing and felt so connected with the main character and the Night City, the way no other game has made me feel before. All of this was easily missed, and I wonder if there is anything else similar that I haven't encountered yet. I guess I should consider myself lucky enough to have a good PC rig, but I've had just one crash during my 300 hours in Cyberpunk. I play a lot of indie/early access games to not be bothered by generic clipping or T-posing issues, heck I survived playing the release build of VTMB and enjoyed the heck out of it too. This game has a soul, through and through, and I actually find it peculiar how different people's experience with this game (based on player's interaction with the world and characters) is so vastly different. Kinda like different people's experience with life, depending on how people lead it. I think in that regard CDPR really succeeded in letting the players pick their own journey - my guess is, a lot of people's choices just plain out suck. This is some next gen level of meta, IMO.

I’ve been drowning in other peoples negativity surrounding the game, when I just wanna talk about how much fun it is and how interesting and dynamic the characters are. I know the bugs suck but please blame the management at cdpr for rushing the game not the developers. Who are responsible for everything great about it.
    Edit: please note that I’m playing on a base ps4 and either I’m incredibly lucky, have an insane tolerance for bugs, or maybe, just maybe the hate is a bit over the top.

    The title weirdly gives the impression that no quest before it would have made you defend the game, yet Chippin In' is almost always the last questline to do and there are so many brilliant quest just completely disregard by that title...

    Having grown up playing games like until dawn, walking dead and life is strange really set me up to pay attention to everything this story has to offer. And underneath all the bugs and bullshit there really is a beautiful story waiting to be explored. Its just upsetting that things turned out the way they did.

    There's a quest in the game that goes back to 7 years ago when you first see the trailer, there's a quest about the chick you see in the trailer, she is actually in the game

    You should make a video about the sinnerman side-quest line. So good.

    I just wish that the emotional beats that were hit through Johnny's questline was present throughout the other side quests.

      The Judy stuff toward the end was just as exceptional for myself, but I guess that's just me. I found the underwater sequence to be one of the most emotionally resonant pieces of the game (with absolutely killer audio composition).
      Some of the best stuff is in the side stories.

    Yeah this arc is one of the best side missions I’ve ever experienced in any game. The finale of playing on the stage with everyone was awesome imo.

    I consider myself lucky for not coming across any glitches or bugs during the missions that really mattered to me in my first playthrough. It made me recognise that even though the game is flawed beyond any reasonable measure and is basically a promise unfulfilled, It's still a great piece of writing.
    Johnny and V literally and figuratively growing on each other as you progress if you choose so.
    Judy's last mission being absolutely beautiful in all the ways possible and at a totally different pace from the rest of the game without feeling off. Yes, I simp for Judy, can't deny that.
    As others have already mentioned, conversations with Kerry, the BD with the Clouds doll, getting accepted into that one certain large family. Even River Ward's conclusion which seemed on the lighter side, those moments hit hard.
    Speaking of hitting hard, the end credits holo-calls for certain endings. Oof.
    I cannot see CDPR in the same light that I saw them before this game released, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating this game and the people actually responsible for making the content.

    Bless your takes, my friend. I feel like the game's most profound moments (Pyramid Song really stuck with me) are buried deep within side-quests, right at the end of character arcs. I feel sorry for anyone who rushed through the mainline, because I know how much they'll have missed out on. It's not a game to be rushed. Bugs and all, it's most powerful moments are off the road, sitting quietly in scenarios which might pass you by if you're not paying close attention.

    I love that this game is finally getting the attention it needs after the Edgerunners anime... Let's hope the dlc will be another great piece of storytelling like the main game

    My favorite quest in this game is the one that happens after you help River rescue his nephew.
    Where he invites you over for dinner and the entirety of the quest is just having a good time with him and his family. Get the rice, talk to his sister, stir the gumbo, play the game with the kids. And those kids, I nearly died with laughter from their dialogue as they were "getting into character" for the game. I didn't let them win because the game told me to. I let them win because I genuinely wanted to see them win, but I cared enough to keep it just close enough so they would feel like they earned it. I've never had a game make me enjoy cooking food, eating food, losing a game, and then climbing a tower to drink and look at the city.
    I'm not sure what this means, but it means something for a game to reach me in this manner. I really don't care about any of the superficial problems of the game. They don't matter. You are supposed to sink into the experience and look for meaning, question yourself, understand your own motives, and maybe discover important things for your own life, like maybe I should let people help me when they want to, not because I need it, but because it makes them feel good and closer to me. What game has ever done that to me? None so far. This is what gaming should be, and where it should shine. Not in having the flashiest graphics or the most epic set pieces. But in having the most authentic stories with choices that genuinely feel meaningful, even beyond the choices programmed into the game.
    Beautiful.
