In the mountains of Austria, no matter where, the weather can change from 25 crad and sunshine to snowfall and 2-3 crad Celsius within minutes! I'm Austrian and this has happened to me several times in my life! That's why it's important!!! Pack the right clothes. Rain jacket, sweater, long pants, hood and gloves! Especially if you are traveling above 2000m above sea level.
Hi! Question, what time did you leave Innsbruck and what time did you get to the trail head? We are planning on doing the hike in July, ai have checked the map and it is says anout 1.5 hours from Innsbruck to the trailhead, is that accurate? Thanks!
We didn’t start from Innsbruck. But I would plan for 2.5 hrs if you are driving from Innsbruck. Remember, the last part of the road is one way- 20-30 minutes for going up and then next 20-30 minutes for going down, so you may have to wait there. Check the weather carefully as it may be different at the bottom by the lake from the mountain top. This happened to us in Schafberg too; sunny by the lake, but foggy and windy at the top. It can ruin the plan. Good luck
