    I think we should stop worrying about these sanctions as it is a two way street . Americans desperately need the Indian defence market more than anyone else and if anyone's gonna lose because of the sanctions then they are going to be the Americans themselves. It's good that India has been able to maintain strategic autonomy in de hyphenating relations between the Russians and Americans because that is the kind of stand India needs to take being a growing regional power.

      Plz don't get carried away with aspirations into reality...USA is few of counties where India has trade surplus..and again OfCourse USA want access to India's defence market...but if you will carefully analyse the data you will see out of 37 Billion $ FDI around 20B comes out of USA..the cutting edge technology in defence USA have...Russia is for behind..she may have specialization in one particular weapon but USA has excel in all area..and ofcourse don't forget the capital inflow from the IT Sector. Thus in current multi-polar polity india need to carefully address india and usa..

      Ashutosh Pandey you’re right . But then you should also consider the fact that market is not the only thing that US wants from us. They even need us desperately to counter China in Asia. A strong India is all what US wants at this point of time.

    • @HemantKumar-nb1kd
      @HemantKumar-nb1kd 6 лет назад +2

      Ashutosh Pandey., the reality is that we're already 6th biggest economy by Nominal GDP terms and 3rd biggest by PPP.
      2) Reasonably explain, how come 20 bn USD from USA come as FDI.
      3) USA relationship is multi-dimensional but so does our relationship with Russia is "priveleged special strategic partnership. S-400 is far superior than American THAAD deployed in South Korea and Guam.
      4) India will have her strategic autonomy as enshrined in our constitution. No damn country sitting miles away can dictate how to safeguard our mational interest.
      5) India is the fulcrum on which Indo-Pacific rests.
      6) We support multi-polarity and this is even required for the eternal world peace.

    Nayar Sir you rightly put that "these are American sanctions not the UN sanctions" which too is illegal and partisan. We as a Sovereign nation should assert our independence, and freedom of conscience. NAM has not lost its relevance completely but a bent towards Russia is more convenient then USA ,a country with a history of threatening and interfering either directly or through UN. Let make this clear to Trump that we are not going to bend at your wishes.

    Going by the statement of the US president, it is highly likely that some sort of sanctions is in offing.However, India should not let its sovereignty dictated by the terms of CAATSA. Back channel talks and negotiations should continue to thrive so as to make the US administration realise the role being played by INDIA in countering China in the Indo-Pacific. India is too big a market to let go by the Americans. Our role should continue to maintain a delicate balance keeping in mind our military capabilities vis-a-vis our neighbours and our multi dimensional relationship with the US.

    I thnk balance is the key.. Lil risk unavoidable sometimes for national interests. India should not worry too much the storm will not last forever provided move cautiously n Trump wnt be too harsh to India bc India is such an important country for USA. India must hope for the best and prepare for the worst as our expert suggests is the gist of the debate. And Russia can never be ignored at the moment.

    This is a gesture of disrespect from USA towards India.. They placed India at the heart of their indo - pacific strategy, and Afghan policy.. And without India, they just can't counter China in the indo - pacific still we are under threat of US sanction.. We deserves a waiver.. India got her own priorities..And USA should respect that priorities.. Why should we confine ourselves into one strategic basket?

Russia has provided with so many defence equipment like nuclear submarine, aircraft carrier, now S-400, fighter aircraft, civilian nuclear reactor many more without any objection, even protected us when USA came with nuclear bomb,in 1971 war with Pakistan in support of Pakistan but we beat Pakistan despite full support from USA and broke Pakistan into two parts.

      @Namo- OK, then stay with Russia. And India will be a same country as they are now. If your friendship with Russia continue, then you're going no where. Some sort of economic development with business with western countries- that's all.
      Russia imports only $1.8 billion from India and US imports $72 billion from India.
      And Your Russia exports $4 billion to India and US exports $42 billion to India.
      Who is helping India?
      US take 2 million Indian people and most of them are by H1B visa. They're not only helping US economy, but also help India greatly.
      In recent times- US is trying to close to India for not only tackling China, but also looking forward for greater economy. Look, after WW2- how did Germany & Japan emerged as great economic power with the help of US. You can't just deny that.
      Yes, history between US & India was not so good, but time has changed.
      It's perfect time for India to be emerged as a really powerful country and mark my word- that will never be possible with the friendship of Russia.

      I think you should learn the whole picture. With current Indian foreign policy- I mean, trying to stand on all boats, India may be develop at certain level, but not beyond than that- like Turkey, I can say.
      And India will circling around with her old shape, nothing more than that.
      What kinds of democratic country continuously to maintain deep relation with an authoritarian countries like Russia, Iran. This is absurd. What the hell I can say?

  • @manofsan
    @manofsan 6 лет назад +2

    Instead of butting heads over Iran & Pakistan, both India & USA should just work together to liberate Balochistan - by doing so, this will open up access to oil-rich Central Asia, while also opening up Iran's eastern border for US power projection.

    Sanctions fear , all discussed but what is going on ? Is India answerable to USA ;aren't we a sovereign nation .
    India is trying to balance with US interest in indo pacific region (USA's pivot to asia and for countering china , india is a very important strategic partner). So india knows how to take calculated gamble to pursue its own interest . There is something we have learnt from NAM and i.e art of balancing our interests with everyone .
    US won't be willing to hurt its interest with India until Trump woke up with a shot of russian vodka 😂

    • @SteveEnosh
      @SteveEnosh 6 лет назад

      Yeah. You are right, India is a strategic partner to US in the Asia Region! Well, I'll ask you other way around. Is US a Strategic Ally for India In it's own Backyard? Absolutely Yes.
      It's just that Strategic security won't be comprised under Trump Administration.
      Trump is eyeing something else.

    Seriously disappointed by the arguments of the mandarins. To all friends , here are my few observations:
    1. I'm surprised why nobody mentioned US waiver to Azerbaijan regarding natural gas pipeline from Iran.
    As per my understanding, Azerbaijan is strategically located between Turkey, Iran and Russia. Also Azerbaijan is en route to Afghanistan through Northern distribution network for NATO supplies in case of vindictive Pakistan . India is nonetheless most important country in South-east Asia.
    2. Iran sanctions are hitting on 4th of November. Trump has failed to productively engage Saudi Arabia to boost production and volatility in oil market could play adversely in upcoming state and national elections. And I don't think Modi ji would compromise electoral fortunes for distant foreign policy objectives. Also favouring Iran can appease certain sect of religious minority: Bonus votes.
    3. Sanctioning India will led to surge in anti-US rhetoric, glimpses of which were visible during Devyani Khobaradge episode.
    Though behind door negotiations can do wonders in form of new trade deal and more big ticket arms purchases.
    4. Backstabbing Iran on basis of unUN sanctions would harm India's long term interests in middle East and central Asia, and India would be considered as spineless regional power. Losing both long-term strategic and economic advantages.
    5. Sanctions on India will push Indian corporates to look towards China and that substantially negates objectives of US trade war with China.
    6. In case sanctions are imposed, Modi will hit nerves of Nationalism and showcase masochism to local populace, a rare event since famed surgical strike.
    It's a win-win situation for India. If sanctions are not imposed ,India will reaffirm its principle of sovereignty and strategic autonomy and if sanctions imposed that will tell us a lot about much celebrated Indo- US strategic partnership of this century.

    When India is decisive in it's policy, USA will be decisive in it's policy also. I think if there would be hard ball negotiations from both sides in their own regional, domestic and global interests, following actions would be more transparent and trustworthy.

    If we had got feared of sanctions then India would have never become nuclear powered country, just because of sanction we can't compromise our national security, if we get some kind of waiver then it's good if not then it's not permanent, and USA too has to suffer loss in 15% defence done by the India.

    India needs to check its banking software for bugs. Indian imports should balance the export.
    then the money earned by the foreign workers should be a surplus. remove the gold restrictions and allow people to bring gold in. So the blackmarket will end and the dollar flow will stop there. that will reduce the dollar value against rupee.
