I remember listening to this almost on repeat until I got sick of it a few years ago. Came back to it after so long and it's just so refreshing to hear such a well put together harder dnb mix. Really wish emma would bring the jackal alias back and keep making stuff like this.

12:38 - I wish I knew; this was from a pretty brief and exclusive part of D+B history when they mixed jump-up with house. Reminds me of DJ DB's mixes back in the day.

I'm years late, but there may be influence from the likes of Venetian Snares. A thing he did was to name some tracks something weird in other languages, Szamár Madár meaning Ass Bird, for instance.

I don't know if this is right but it's believed in finnish folklore that painajainen or painaja is a creature or animal that comes to sit on top of your chest while you sleep to bring you restless dreams. And the name is kind of refering to him being painaja. There is also a sami word for painaja Deattán
