It really is to upgrade your equips as much as possible. Every 5 total upgrades causes the "Potentites" you've collected to give you additional battle benefits like more BG and SG to use. Otherwise grinding equips drops for lucky star rolls to decrease SG consumption is kinda what would help. Stats like "(%) chance not to lose souls during break souls"

How to unlock Ex Dungeons at the end of the game?
Aaron Yeo once you beat the. Final boss go to empyrean throne’s entrance and talk to the Katz. Then just follow the related side quest.
