  • A Parisian symphony returns to the French capital: Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 84 in E-flat major Hob. I:84 was composed in 1786 for a Paris concert series and will be performed again by the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Paavo Järvi. The concert took place on October 17, 2012, at the Salle Pleyel, Paris.
    (00:00) Coming on stage
    (00:21) I. Largo - Allegro
    (07:34) II. Andante
    (14:29) III. Menuet. Allegro
    (17:50) IV. Finale. Vivace
Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) is considered the "father of the symphony." Haydn did not invent the symphony. Composers of what later became known as the Mannheim School had already written orchestral pieces at the court of the Elector in Mannheim which became formative for the sound of the classical symphony orchestra. However, Haydn was the one who developed the symphony from a piece originally composed as an opera overture into an independent orchestral work. The four-movement structure of the symphony can also be traced back to him.
Haydn composed a total of 104 symphonies. Even during his lifetime, they were performed in Paris, as he had been popular as a composer in the French capital since the late 1760s. In 1784 Haydn was commissioned by the newly founded concert company Paris Concerts de la Loge Olympique to write six major symphonies. Symphony No. 84 is one of them.
Paavo Järvi was born in 1962 in Talinn, Estonia, and emigrated to the United States in 1980. For a long time, he was the principal conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, with which he is still associated as Conductor Laureate. From 2010-2016, he was principal conductor of the Orchestre de Paris. Since 2019, he has been artistic director and principal conductor of the Tonhalle Zurich.
The Orchestre de Paris is one of the largest and most prestigious orchestras in the world. It was founded in 1967 and has been led by great conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, and Daniel Barenboim. In 2015, it moved from the Salle Pleyel to the Paris Philharmonie in the 19th arrondissement.

You didn't need to specify Austrian. An Austrian is as German as someone from mainland or Switzerland.

I’m not sure the French and Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland (plus some other parts) would consider themselves German.
