- Join Miss GoElectric @CES 2024 as she explores the @kia PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) display. She'll discuss the finer points of the upcoming lineup, implications for commercial and lifestyle users, and the timeframe.
We understand the audio quality of this video is below what you expect from our brand and we apologize. This was captured on a cell phone, which is new to us. Producer Tim overlooked some importantly settings to integrate the wireless microphone. We have done our best to salvage this clip using AI because we think Kia PBV is, perhaps, the most interesting and comprehensive product announcement from any automaker at CES this year.
Thanks for watching!

such a cool van! I will definitely buy something like this when it's available.
Agreed! It is such a well thought out concept 🤓
please allow the public to buy some of these modular cargo versions; the dog community especially will LOVE these! The ability to turn the dog vehicle into a daily driver easily would be HUGE.
Sincerely, someone with a large dog who is always looking for a car that can fit a crash-tested safety crate fit for a small pony lol.
We have heard from many viewers who would like a great minivan option. Perhaps the VW ID.BUZZ or an upcoming Tesla van will fit the bill until PBV comes to your area. -Producer Tim
@@MissGoElectric Thank you for answering! Yes I am very excited about the VW buzz, it definitely has my attention, but so do these Kia vans! Like I said, the ability to turn the big dog hauler- which needs cargo space- into a day vehicle that can transport people, easily and on my own, would be amazing! Not everyone wants to, or can, have 2 different vehicles; a dog car and a normal car, for example. The ability to have one car do everything, would be so good!
I eagerly look forward to what the general public's version of these Kia vans will be, and what we will be able to do with them. I really love the PV5-R and the long PV5.
Please bring this EV Van to the US! Will make a great camper🎉🎉
A promising line. -Producer Tim
The PV 7 Would Make a GREAT CAMPERVAN
Could be! -Producer Tim
any chance the PBV5 Cargo makes it into the US? and if so can charge on the Tesla network?
In a few years we might know the answer to this. -Producer Tim
It took me a few hours 2 days ago, of searching and watching different Kia posts on the PBVs. To find the information that you have, in this less than 10 minute post. So thank you for such an efficient and effective post on a fascinating subject.
The only thing that I would add is that it Kia stated in their posts that it will be sold to commercial fleet buyers, not the general public. At least that's Kia's current plans. And the Kia Worldwide channel has additional posts on this subject matter.
We are glad you've found our summary helpful.
Kia team members confirmed that there will be a lifestyle version of the PBV intended for consumers. Overall, this lineup is directed at business buyers. -Producer Tim
The swapping system seems cool, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the specifics of how it all works. Do you need to also buy a machine that does the swap? Would this really be better than just having separate vehicles since you have to store the modules anyway?
Swapping is for commercial customers and requires significant investment in the station. -Producer Tim
the pv1 also have the perfect size and form/shape for a one or two person tandem car with down folding back seat to be honest im looking at the pv5 at the moment but if they can make the pv1 like that ( with the seat and stearing like the pv5 and be pretty quick in the 100-150 kmt / 60-90mph ( so you can easily. quickly and safely pass someone on the highway ) i think they will have a surpriceinglt good winner on there hand
Great observations. Thanks for commenting!
-Producer Tim
i love Kia and lots pv5 plckup Pv5-R Pv5 High Roof Pv5 ❤❤❤❤❤
They are doing great things
As usual, Canoo is taking a long time to get anywhere, while Koreans and Chinese are implementing those ideas to next level rapidly.
Hyundai Group is one of Earth's largest organizations. They've got the resources which Canoo lacks. -Producer Tim
@@MissGoElectric Yup Canoo had great ideas but now they will def loose appeal to the public. I love the KIA concepts. I would buy them and go vanlife.
Really cool stuff! Do you think they'll ever put a micro factory into UAW stronghold location like Detroit?
Thank you for watching and commenting.
We suspect regional micro factory locations will be located at the nexus of hundreds of favorable attributes including demand, shipping options, labor costs and ability, real estate costs, and more.
EV van startups like Canoo and Arrival planned a similar production arrangement. We have a high degree of confidence that Kia (Hyundai Group) will achieve greater success. Their track record with EVs has been exceptional over the last five years.
-Producer Tim
It's an intriguing concept....
But hope they do better than Canoo and Arrival..... And the others that have tried it.....
@nc3826 Startups attempting to remain solvent through the processes of design, manufacturing, sales, and service of a new vehicle usually fail.
As one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers, Kia (Hyundai Group) is very well positioned for success. -Producer Tim
Hi Michigan❤😊
The state has been good to us. -Producer Tim
Wait are the pvb’s actually coming?
That's what we reported in this segment. We also relayed the date targets advertised by Kia.
-Producer Tim
OMG I WANT ONE LOL
Same!
I wonder if this runs on Canoo’s skateboard platform and the top hat is manufacturer customized.
Kia PBV is not associated with Canoo in any way. -Producer Tim
@@MissGoElectric thanks
@@MissGoElectric While they are not associated now Canoo and Hyundai Motor Group had a joint venture back in late 2020 to develop exactly this vehicle. This was before Canoo reorganized to sell directly instead of doing their original subscription model and the joint venture was dissolved. They just have more money and capitalization to get it to market faster than Canoo.
@@gregstoddard8097 For those looking for specifics...here is the official press release on that no-defunct program:
www.hyundai.news/eu/articles/press-releases/hyundai-and-canoo-to-co-develop-all-electric-platform.html
-Producer Tim
What is the range?
Not published.
Quite the imaginative, futuristic concepts, Laycee! Fun to contemplate; dunno if I'll ever seen them in use in my lifetime. BTW, did you take the Boring Loop to get to the Convention Center? If so, curious to know your impressions of it.
These will be in production and on the streets within two years. These are production intent designs and we hope you are still around in 2026 to see them in action.
We have ridden Teslas in the Boring Co loop. There was little fanfare about the experience because a human did the driving. Tunnel characteristics were similar to long-established pedestrian and bicycle tunnels we've seen in cities like Winnipeg. That said, we are fans of utilizing vertical space and reducing congestion in a safe and cost effective fashion. -Producer Tim
I would love a Mercedes sprinter size version as well. This big one wasn't really that big lol. Even so i hope their vision becomes reality 🙏
Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm. -Producer Tim
I want a Canoo, but I'll get a Kia if it comes out first. Will any company actually release a decent EV Van?
I like them both as well. What about the VW ID.Buzz? 🤔
@@MissGoElectric it seems the short wheel-base ID Buzz has released in Europe already?
I'm worried that it will start around $65-70k when it finally comes stateside.
It does look nice though.
The Volkswagen ID Buzz will precede Canoo and Kia with an EV Van in the US market. Thank you for commenting. -Producer Tim
their investment on arrival is definetly helping them building this which is great but i doubt if they can really implement what arrival can do in large scale.
Arrival went out of business and the scraps were sold to Mullen. Kia is developing PBV independently. -Producer Tim
theevreport.com/arrival-announces-bankruptcy-filing
no way, i didnt know that they filed bankruptcy! im sad that they did it, i was a fan of their busses 🥲. Im just not particularly sure about their microfactory method.
How to invest
Hyundai Group
The American market really needs a small truck, it seems like all of the ones on the road are over 20 years old.
Maverick
We are also in favor of variety in the marketplace. -Producer Tim
That PBV will be released in korea in 2025.
As stated at 5:41 and again at 8:22
your fluent delivery is awesome
Thank you for watching and for your encouraging words. You might enjoy our other Miss GoElectric RUclips channels, as well. -Producer Tim
Did you say Canoo?
We have covered the startup Canoo in the past on this channel. There are significant differences in the two companies' manufacturing capabilities, drivetrain and battery technologies, as well as materials and scale. That said, we are enthusiastic for all successful endeavors in electrification. -Producer Tim
@@MissGoElectric yea, but not much difference in design, concept, implementation, and marketing
The rear half of the vehicle being *hot swappable* by the fleet manager, every component being moveable at any time by the operator including speakers, lighting, and even the steering wheel is much more flexible than Canoo's offering. Canoo has not promoted a fully autonomous taxi or a nimble nanoVan with 180 degree turning and no steering wheel. We think the interior modules which can become tables and retail displays is also a cut beyond Canoo's depth of product.
@@MissGoElectric "The rear half of the vehicle being hot swappable by the fleet manager" ? That's 100% CANOO from like 2018 :)
One out of five major features we named were unproven Canoo concepts six years ago? That doesn't sound like a carbon copy to us, but we will be happy no matter what company realizes the features.
-Producer Tim
8:03 microfactories - hey, should Hyundai Kia buy Arrival?
We do not think they should buy Arrival. Kia is capable of each element on their own. Arrival has demonstrated no procedural or technological advantage regarding the rollout of micro factories. -Producer Tim
Arrival it's still in business? (rhetorical)
Looks like Canoo (which seems to be on the verge of bankruptcy).
KIA (Hyundai Group) has the resources to realize this comprehensive vision. Canoo is a longshot. Thanks for commenting!
-Producer Tim
All really nice as long as you don't leave the pavement. These designs also reveal how stupid the Tesla truck is.
This is definitely intended to be an on-road commercial vehicle, geared towards urban environments. -Producer Tim (Cybertruck owner)
@@MissGoElectric 👍
@canoo is finished
They were partnered with Kia for a brief while. This is a direct competitor. We hope you'll subscribe for more. -Producer Tim
Makes the Tesla cyber truck look immediately obsolete. Elon missed this one.
The Cybertruck is in production and does truck things. This is a concept exhibit of a vehicle which will hopefully someday do van things. Both are excellent at what they do... But only the Cybertruck is on the streets with about 20,000 delivered as of this comment. -Producer Tim
Notice there is no interest in CES? Also, no one has faith in automakers innovating especially as the backpedal on EV development. All the concept cars are underwhelming. Anyone else notice that?
CES had 130,000 attendees this year. We noticed that and we were thrilled to see Honda, Kia, Hyundai bring products like this which are slated for production soon. -Producer Tim
Noticed, most people see only what they want to see. Which is what is truly underwhelming.
@@MissGoElectric Producer Tim, I appreciate the reply but you've got the data. Check your views on RUclips for CES content. I'm glad CES is involving more RUclipsrs these days, it used to be exclusive to mainstream media such as CNET. But truth is, from here on the ground, the general public is not interested. A lot of false promises, vaporware, and blatant misuse of government funds. I've seen companies at CES that got government grants with products they are not enthusiastic about. Vaperware that's unable to compete in a free market. Then automakers like the ones you've mentioned make concept cars with no intention of release. Fool me once. You mentioned Honda, where is this Hydrogen car, the Honda Clarity? They've been teasing it since the 90s. The fact that they didn't make Hydrogen mainstream by building out the network is a clear failure. Tesla is the only company that created a nationwide network which is now subject to sabotage instead of the market competing is disappointing. I know you won't understand what I'm saying. You have no incentive to because of your partnerships but there is little to no innovation at CES. Main Street doesn't care. It's not on the news or local news. It's not trending on X. The views are not there on RUclips. I know what I see. Your built in audience is supporting you but the general public does not care.
We have no partnership with CES or Kia.
We see that Kia (Hyundai Group) consistently delivers on their promises. They are leading the legacy automakers in the production of excellent EVs at affordable prices in spite of being on the wrong side of US government subsidies.
Chinese will copy them soon and launch them in 2025!!!
Competition is fierce. It will be interesting to see who else comes out with a thoughtful platform like this for professionals and everyday consumers! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Chinese can make only junk. Compering Korean products to Chinese is idiotic at best.
utter trash,expensive junk..for children.
Children who own business with fleets of automobiles? That's a niche! -Product Tim
You know nothing about business. Go back to playing with LEGOS.
