How to carry Camera Gear in Flights?

Only Airport worried me about my camera gears and laptops are only at India. Everywhere else I travelled it was an easy task to clear the security check.

Yes. Anything that contains batteries should be in the cabin bag

An off topic question: I have 85mm nikon kit lens. I like to shoot portraits, in which imo 85mm does a good job, but in tighter space it struggles. I also love clicking landscapes.
Which lens should I buy 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8? I am really confused. Please suggest. Or amy specific video that u want to suggest, which can help me to select

35 mm 1.8/1.4 is way too better than 50 mm 1.8 for wider preceptive imo
