My 2017 jeep compass shows DPF cleaning sign once in a month since my daily drive has become 8-9 kms. Once the sign appears, I drive it above 2000 rpm usually in 3rd gear around 60-70 kmph, for 15 min approx, and it dissappears. No impact on vehicle performance noted during this time. Just to add here - regen only works when the soot load is below a certain level. If you don't let it regenerate and it goes above a certain load, then the only solution is to replace it. Cleaning isn't something that any manufacturer will support officially. The people who did the service on my old F10 did not tell me the DPF soot load was at the limit and by the time I figured it out, no amount of regeneration, forced or otherwise, even with factory tools, would bring it back to working condition. A DPF for that car would cost as much as a small hatchback, so I went with a downpipe.
Eliminating dpf and getting a remap in bs6 cars might end up in failed PUC tests in the future 😐

@Sujin ExtasyBy getting rid of DPF i didn't mean to go with a straight pipe rather to go with the stock exhaust setup of the same pre BS6 ones (like the 1.5 TDCI) and modifying it's ECU to ignore all those new sensors associated with DPF and to work how it used to in pre BS6 era. Still not sure about PUC, if one's ready to go that extra mile to take that risk we'll know and also adding and removing DPF is not an easy task (I'm talking only about those with DPF+LNT setup) These are all easier said than done.
@Sujin Extasy Are you not getting my point, i didn't deny the fact that DPF has to be periodically regenerated for its healthy life nor did i mean just software modification alone is enough to bypass DPF.
@Sujin Extasy How can you be so assured that such a setup would fail in less than 2k kms if we are able to make the "proper" hardware & software changes- replicating the same engine prior to BS6 and DPF delete is not a new thing.

For Hyundai you have to drive min. 60 kmph (above 5th Gear) for 30 mins & for Honda you have to drive above 20 kmph for 15 mins for regeneration. ഇനി ഈ ഇൻഡിക്കേഷൻ കസ്റ്റമർ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചില്ല എന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ, അടുത്തതായി DPF ഇൻഡിക്കേറ്റർ മിന്നി മിന്നി കത്തുന്നത് മാറി സ്ഥിരമായി കത്തി നിൽക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങും, അപ്പോൾ ചെയ്യേണ്ടത് എത്രയും പെട്ടന്ന് വണ്ടി സർവീസ് സെന്ററിൽ എത്തിക്കുക എന്നതാണ്. അവിടുന്ന് വേറെ ചിലവൊന്നുമില്ലാതെ തന്നെ ആ പ്രശ്നം ക്ലിയർ ചെയ്യാവുന്നതാണ്. ഇനി ഈ ഇൻഡിക്കേഷൻ കണ്ടിട്ടും കസ്റ്റമർ വണ്ടി സർവീസ് സെന്ററിൽ കൊണ്ടുപോയില്ല എന്നിരിക്കട്ടെ, അടുത്ത ഒരു 200 kms കഴിയുമ്പോഴാണ് മേൽപ്പറഞ്ഞ limping സംഭവിക്കുന്നത്, ഈ ഒരു അവസ്ഥ കസ്റ്റമറിന്റെ മാത്രം ഉത്തരവാദിത്വത്തിൽ വരുന്നതാണ്, ഇപ്പോൾ DPF മാറ്റി വെക്കുക എന്നതല്ലാതെ വേറെ സാഹചര്യമുണ്ടാകില്ല, അതാകട്ടെ വാറന്റിയിൽ കിട്ടാത്തുമില്ല. DPF ഫിൽറ്ററിനു min 14k cost ഉണ്ടാകും. ഇപ്പറഞ്ഞത് എന്റെ അനുഭവത്തിന്റെയും അറിവിന്റെയും അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ്
NB: ഏതൊരു വാഹനത്തിന്റെയും ബൈബിൾ എന്ന് പറയുന്നത് അതിന്റെ ഓണർ മാന്വൽ / സർവീസ് മാന്വൽ ആണ്. BS6 ഡീസൽ വണ്ടി വാങ്ങുന്നവർ ഡീലറിൽ നിന്നും ഇതിനെ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയില്ല എങ്കിൽ തീർച്ചയായും ഒരു തവണയെങ്കിലും ഓണർസ് മാന്വൽ / സർവീസ് മാന്വൽ നോക്കുക, യൂട്യൂബ് നോക്കുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് കാരണം മുറി വൈദ്യൻ ആളെ കൊല്ലുമെന്നാണ് പ്രമാണം !!!!!

In my previous job I was doing some studies on feasibility of DPF in India. We drove a DPF fitted vehicle around Bangalore for few days...the average speed that we observed was 7km/h when we reported this to the technical team in Germany they said 'We are going to have some fun with DPF in India' 😂
A big TC fan here...Thank you very much for the informative video.. I would like to add few points.. Some manufacturers use DPF + SCR set up for smaller diesel(1.5 L) engines too..Mahindra uses AD blue(DEF) for Bolero and Marazzo in their 1.5 engines..
Also the manual regeneration option(via the onboard switch) which Vivek touched upon becomes available only when the DPF clog tell tale sign on the cluster is on.. same is carried out after parking the car in an open environment and can last 20-30 minutes. Same can't be done when the vehicle is on the run.. I'm sure Vivek knows this and seems like he missed to indicate that.. Am just pointing out as some viewers may have thought that this option can be used while the vehicle is on the move.
Also i've heard car owners saying certain brand diesels make their cars prone for DPF complaints.. same is not validated hence can't comment on which are those brands.

I have been using Nissan X-Trail T31 (2010 model) with DPF for last few years. Mulitple times I faced this issue of DPF as explained by you.. Few points to add.
1. I think one more reason for DPF getting clogged is the quality of Diesel. Engines with DPF expect BS6 rated fuel, which is still not available easily . On top of it many times the available BS4 fuels are adulterated with kerozine etc, which increases the soot accumilation in DPF.
2. Once the DPF gets clogged and ECU move to limp mode, we can also try to physically clean the DPF by removing it from the vehicle ....
I have reached limp mode . Any way to change it?

Very much informative. I own a Tata Nexon BS6 Diesel engine. It’s really difficult with DPF. Twice it went in limp mode. First DPF warning in 12k km. Was driving in MC road at night time with family. Had to drive 45km in limp mode to reach home. 2nd time at 17k was in aluva when the DPF warning came. And within no time in limp mode. Took her to Vazhakkala SC for a temporary fix so that I can reach my home in Kottayam. 3 days vehicle in SC. It’s really a pain. Atleast if we can calculate at what km DPF kicks in, then can work on something. Seems like BS6 diesel engine is a regret

MY car is Honda Amaze Diesel CVT BS6 bought in Oct 2020.
@5,000 km DPF warning came and my SA advised me to drive the car for 20 km in highway. The DPF warning went off after that. The car experienced a drop in fuel efficiency of around 30%.The car was used extensively in highways at the time.
DPF warning came @10,000 km and Honda SA did the regeneration in service center while the car was undergoing my regular 10k service.
Now @15,000 I was expecting the DPF warning to come again. It did not. Instead I have noticed a drop in fuel efficiency (around 40 %) for 250 kilometers and the car is returning to normal fuel efficiency now. I guess its underwent progressive regeneration by itself. No other changes in the car apart from fuel efficiency drop.
Apart from DPF issue and some suspension noise its a great car to drive.

Thank you for sharing this. That’s regeneration taking place which causes extra fuel consumption (and pollution coz now you’d have to burn extra fuel to get somewhere you’d have with this fuel)
@@TalkingCars Hi, I have an update on this. I received a call from my dealer for an ECU update on DPF issue. The SA verbally confirmed that the driving style, type of road & quality of fuel can affect the frequency & intensity of DPF getting clogged.

Clocked 6000km with new i20 diesel. till now not faced any issues related dpf.
Also i found something in the user manual that we can do self regenration by doing some steps (only possible after the dpf warning i guess):
1. Engage parking brake and shift lever at P state.
2. Turn on the engine
3. Warm up the engine and check engine temperature gauge at the middle position
4. Turn on the air conditioner and set the blower to the maximum.
5. Turn on the high beam.
6. Operate the rear defog function.
7. Hold the OK button on the LCD warning message page.

In dealer ,using their scan tool ,they can able to do DPF regeneration without driving the vehicle (static regeneration) depends upon the conditions it May take up to 45 minutes

A correction....Bolero has a park regeneration option and is also equipped with SCR. There are two tanks in bolero right side tank for diesel and left tank for DEF
DPF regeneration can be done with below two options:
1. Take vehicle to highway and drive for 20-30 mins @ speeds above 60 kms/hr until the lamp turns OFF (or)
2. Park Regeneration to be done as per the below procedure
Park regeneration is only possible when the rEGEn menu is available in the instrument cluster
• Park the vehicle safely in a well ventilated levelled open space and free of any flammable material• Shift the gear lever to Neutral with the engine running and apply the parking brake• Press RESET switch & toggle until rEGEn displayed in Cluster• Press and hold the RESET switch until “REGEN REQUESTED” is displayed in DIS• Then “REGEN STARTED” message will appear in DIS and engine idle speed will increase indicating regeneration has started if all conditions are met.• Park Regeneration can take up to 30 minutes to complete. Once completed the “REGEN COMPLETED” message in the DIS and DPF Lamp in cluster will turn OFF.
Incase of an emergency where in the Park Regeneration process needs to be interrpted/aborted, press the Clutch/Brake/Accelerator pedal or turn off the ignition switch. Park regeneration can be resumed from the beginning if the DPF tell-tale is ON/Blinking.
Vehicles equipped with parked regeneration + running regeneration are the best solution for BS6 diesel engines. So that users using vehicle in congested city, hilly areas can use the vehicle without any DPF isuues as in city and hilly areas the DPF clogging will be a common isuues due to slow moving traffic, frequent short trips etc.
Similarly Korean brothers creta and seltos too have self regeneration technique..with a different set of procedure other than running it on highway. The gap i find with users is that there's no proper knowledge sharing to users at the time of vehicle delivery at dealership level.... Which is leading to panic situation with buyers in DPF issues for BS6 Diesel engines.

I had a Volkswagen crafter with a 2 litre engine on which I ended up spending big money to replace the DPF within 1.5 years of owning it from new. It was used on highways on a daily basis but one of my drivers failed to fill up the fuel tank more than half tank for around a month. For the regeneration to happen, the amount of fuel in the tank was supposed to be above a certain level as per VW logic and it never happened for around a month in my van. That was it and I ended up replacing it.

Hey bro, as per I know there is no relation between the amount of fuel and the regeneration process to happen . For the manual regeneration process to happen they are saying to keep the fuel level above half tank is just for a warning it doesn't cause any issue to dpf as fuel will consuming too much during regeneration process . DPF get damaged mostly when you drive it without burning off the soot ie without doing regeneration.
Regeneration during driving can be done by driving on 2nd second gear on 2 to 2.5k rpm for 5 to 10 kms . May be the driver haven't done that for a while which caused damage to ur dpf

Practically ridiculous . My friend has a i20 1L turbo , he gets 5-6 mileage in city driving . His highway mileage is 8-9 . He drives sedately . Small turbos are for "enthusiasts"

Out of curiosity, what about running the engine in neutral at high RPM while parked (for city cars in this case) or on a ramp for this system to work ?! Service centres can do this in a "safe" environment too.

My new hyundai venue 1.5 bs6 model is giving this warning every 2 to 3 weeks after just one month of buying it . I believe that's its due to the city drive . I am driving only 4 to 5 kms on daily basis.
