you seem to be playing on controller because of the slow camera movement and the sounds of your sticks. I would really recommend enabling the "simple" control style under control options. Makes the camera automatically rotate to whichever diraction your stick is pointing at + it gives you the option to bind a button to center the camera zelda-style. You can even enable a sort of z targeting in the camera options!
I think the most common critism of metal virus that as you mentioned, and i agree with is that it overstays its welcome. I think these mini arcs after that are super welcome to build up to another big arc of interest.

Bowser DOES have a big-ass army under his command and even some enemies that could make Sonic break more than just a sweat, the Koopa Troop may not be the smartest, but they're certainly above Badniks on that department, plus they're living beings, so they can naturally live and learn, and that's also a plus going for them. ALSO, if my headcanon is true, then these guys are also nigh-endless because the magic they have on their side can "poof" most fallen soldiers back to safety and send them again once they're nursed back to health, which would explain why some (even bosses, and Bowser himself at times) can just explode and come back in the same game Eggman could barely take over the world, but Bowser has been shown capable to take over multiple kingdoms in a single run without further resistance, to the point that Mario (& company) is the only one who can really stop him, only for him to come back after being engulfed by lava several times and even coming back from a duckling black hole! the thing with the king is he'd rather focus on the Mushroom Kingdom since that's where his golden trophy resides. Princess "Peach" Toadstool. Eggman would have rather a really rough time even trying to figure out whatever he could possibly do against such a fierce army, and if he DOESN'T get any time to plan, then he's scrambled man for sure. No contest. and yeah, I know Sonic could slap Mario on a hourly basis and get away with it 'cause he's that much stronger overall, but let's be honest, Mario has been dealing with the bigger threat over here. JUST compare 'Sonic CD' and 'Sonic Colors' to 'Super Mario Galaxy' 1 & 2 Come to think of it, Bowser could've probably doomed the world in many occasions if he desired to do it, but he's not as crazed as Eggman, and he would lose more than he would get, so there's also no reason to even try, ain't that right?
eggman is a bigger threat overall i would argue, it's just that he's stuck against a much more powerful group of opponents than what bowser has to deal with. you're acting like eggman hasn't: -abused ancient relics to conquer an entire planet via time travel, forcibly chaining it to earth. -outsmarted basically every main player (including tails, who is canonically just as much of a genius as him) and made them all play into his hands on multiple occasions. -literally split the planet into multiple pieces (twice). you get the idea. eggman has a near endless army, he's a strategically genius, and he has countless weapons at his disposal. even if bowser managed to outgun him, eggman could still make a recovery if he played his cards right. at the very least, i do think it would be a much more entertaining fight with more potential outcomes than something like sonic vs mario.
I've always seen bowser as the more "in control" villain between the two, like, Eggman is smart and all, but often he messes with forces beyond his understanding and gets wrecked in the end by the force he was trying to control, meanwhile bowser may have plans that don't seem quite as impressive as some of Eggman's plans but if you notice, bowsers never gets betrayed by some outside force because he either always tries to become stronger on his own, or whenever he messes with an outside force he definitely knows he can control it. Thats how I've always seen things. (and it's also why I think bowser and Eggman would not work well together but that's another argument entirely)
Well, Eggman does have his notable “big gun” in the form of Metal, who if Eggman lets go Metal Overlord again could content with most of Bowser’s army by himself alone. Eggman also has some moon-destroying superweapons and has hijacked gods before, but I dunno if that’s being granted to him. Either way, while Bowser has more brute force, Eggman is likely the more crafty opponent since Bowser lets people like Kamek do the thinking, while Eggman has been able to outsmart everyone else on numerous occasions, like the fake emerald hostage scene from SA2. Granted, Bowser can still tank Mario butt-slamming planetoids into his face, and his magic is incredibly potent, but stuff like the Egg Wizard (while it does use the Chaos and Sol Emeralds as a power source) has threatened to rip universes to bits. I give it to Eggman, but still only barely, Metal and Eggman’s stronger Mechs as well as his use of strategy are working hard to make up for the fact that the Koopa Troop has way more standout elites and Bowser is a goddamn BEAST.

On the Bowser vs. Eggman fight, I think something has been overlooked by many: Eggman could send Neo Metal Sonic to go fight for him. Neo was show to be Eggman-loyal in the IDW books, and would give Bowser more of a fight than Eggman himself would. He might even win, especially with enough prep time.
If you think about it, Bowser beats Eggman even if he fought Eggmans entire army by himself since Eggman doesn't have anything strong enough that tops Bowser surviving supernovas and black holes nor anything that's designed to fight characters like Bowser. Especially when Bowser goes giant

Scourge: My father didn't pay enough attention to me when I was younger because he was too busy bringing peace to the land, so I killed him and turned my kingdom into an anarchy. Surge, who was kidnapped by a deranged scientist, had literally all memories of her previous life erased and replaced with basically an obsession with killing Sonic and replacing him, and who, despite her "creator's" death, is still unable to truly be free of him: That's rough buddy.
if theres one thing i love about the idw comics its that not only does a character laterally die but eggman is actually a bad guy again who killed said character, we also get to learn more about sonic's philosophy and why he doesn't kill which is actually more similar to luffy then goku tbh

While without sonic will win more times he loses. Sonic has his speed and more agile. Mario is way more stronger then sonic maybe durable as well but it would be more harder to hit him. Also bowser does destroy eggman

My opinion on IDW? Ease up on story arc and build up the world. Just because it's literally after Sonic Force doesn't count as recognizable world. All other medias build up the world but IDW didn't put much effort to world build. They just keep moving plots after plots like it's literally a video game.
I think Surge is a great character, but in counter with Shadow, she dont have any chance against fighting Sonic, cause in their fight, Surge was trying to literally kill Sonic and was so tired, while for Sonic was a warmup

With mario vs sonic it depends on what type of battle it'll be. With items mario wins without a doubt he has so many to out last super sonic and items to counter his speed. While without sonic will win more times he loses. Sonic has his speed and more agile. Mario is way more stronger then sonic maybe durable as well but it would be more harder to hit him.
Also bowser does destroy eggman
biggest cap sonic can literally time travel with his speed. And eggman always loses because he always gets distracted by sonic. Eggman can beat bowser eggman literally chained a planet and blew up half of the moon

My opinion on IDW? Ease up on story arc and build up the world. Just because it's literally after Sonic Force doesn't count as recognizable world. All other medias build up the world but IDW didn't put much effort to world build. They just keep moving plots after plots like it's literally a video game.
I think Surge is a great character, but in counter with Shadow, she dont have any chance against fighting Sonic, cause in their fight, Surge was trying to literally kill Sonic and was so tired, while for Sonic was a warmup
