It has been a long while since I went fly fishing (8 years). I glance at the Butter Stick in the local fly fishing shop, new faces and old owners sold to a new couple. My mountain stream/river rods Scott G-Series 4 wt and S3 3 wt. My go to rod is Sage XP 5wt and Winston Tom Morgan 4wt, and Steelhead is Scott Heliply 8wt. It was interesting seeing all these new rods, but Redington's Butter Stick did catch my attention. Being a fiberglass rod I am assuming it somewhere from a slow to medium action rod. Have play with roll casting using the Butter Stick, tried using a double tapered line?
I'd personally go with the foundation or a similar graphite rod. Try to perfect your casting and know the feeling of how that fly line moves on the rod. These glass rods are really slow and present dry flies softly. They are great but harder to learn on.
Just bought one. Arrives tomorrow
Just got a 4wt one for Christmas. This rod is amazing

The rod at the end of the video, was it the 3wt or 4wt
Stuck between this and a 9’5 sage foundation I’ve never used a fiberglass don’t know what to pick

Liking glass so far and am interested in picking one of these up! Thank you for the info!
do you have the butter stick in 7 wt and 9 foot?
Would this be a good surf/beach rod for a newbie?
