  • Short sound comparison of our spherical and sculptured keycap profile (KSS) that has been inspired by the profile found on one of the iconic vintage mechanical keyboards-Symbolics 365407 (Rev. A). Our profile is taller, beefier, and slightly more roundish. More importantly, the keycaps are hand-cast polyurethane. Featured is a triple shot keycap with a Cadet-style front and top legends.
    Used keycaps: PU Keymacs KSS triple shot (the A key) vs. ABS Vintage Cherry double shot (the remaining keycaps)
    Switches: ‪@NovelKeys‬ Cream (1st. gen, original condition)
    Mount: MX Compatible
    Keyboard: bespoke model, hand-wired, Teensy++ 2.0 w/TMK firmware

    Jesus christ it sounds so good. Wish I could afford it.

    Do your keycaps need an explanation as to why they're significant better than Cherry's? A quick visual inspection speaks for itself.

    Wow these sound great; do you have plans to make customs for honeywell hall effect mount as well? I can't tell if the profile is also the same as the original symbolics keycap profile

      It is a profile inspired by Symbolics 365407 Rev A, this is not the same as on the old-style keyboards like the Symbolics 364000 series keyboard or the Space Cadet. Microswitch compatible mount is not a problem, though. I have already tried that.

      Ah I see. I have an old lisp keyboard and a few of the keycap mounts are cracked from age so I want to get a few replacements but I guess the profile won't match with these...

      @@bobbyflin1709 In that case you will have to wait a little longer. 😉 I plan to make the old-style symbolics profile as well but making an entire new keyset is quite expensive and I just threw a lot of money into reworking the current system.

      That makes sense, I can see how much care goes into the keycaps production. If you need a loaner on some symbolics profile keycaps I would be happy to loan some if that helps with the eventual production, especially if you need to color-match space cadet blue (since I see that your website does offer that keycap color scheme)@@keymacs

      @@bobbyflin1709 Thanks! I have the old-style Symbolics keyboard that has the same keycap profile but if you have the cadet, maybe I would appreciate some close-up photos in the future. I offer the space-cadet color scheme for quite some time (almost a year now) but the colors are just approximations because I have not had the opportunity to see the keyboard in person. Any help in that direction would be very welcome! 👍

      It still may happen in the future but you have to be prepared for a high price. These are practically artisan work, so 20€ per 1U double-shot key at minimum.

    • @philipp594
      @philipp594 Год назад

      @@keymacs so 1400ish for a 65%? I think you should hire some interns to help you out and bringt the price down.

    • @keymacs
      @keymacs  Год назад +1

      @@philipp594 Sorry, it does not work that way. The process is just extremely slow, hiring more people means paying their wages and it would make the whole thing even more expensive.

      @philipp594 Год назад +1

      @@keymacs Hmm I don't want you earning less than an intern. Maybe the process can be tuned?

      @keymacs  Год назад +2

      @@philipp594 Not sure. I already gave it some thoughts. Of course, one way is to get investors and go big with classic injection moulding but all the benefits of the process (like versatility and customizability in small batches) will be lost. Not worth it in my opinion.
