Wow, thanks for the kind words. This was the beginning of such tremendous change in my program. It has lead to 2.8 million views of the kids videos, an audition for TV series, and now the start of a community music organization to continue our work with a broader local reach. (I still plan on covering Street Spirit Fade Out which I think will be even cooler)
Oh boy, I can't believe people were okay with children singing this song XD Don't get me wrong, I simply LOVE this song and I think it's brilliant, but it has a very dark meaning not really suited for children....
Bravo! To get kids interested in music, let them sing what they know. When i was in school our music teacher let us sing a couple of Beatles songs and they were always sang loudest by all. Radiohead might be a little deep but still this was beautiful!
The kid with the tambourine... the next Ed O'Brien, maybe? And I can see how it could be interpreted for a younger group, with themes of urban lifestyles and environmentalism, and of government programs and anti-bullying campaigns, but there's something about hearing "bring down the government" coming from those children that's... eerie.
@Zendrig I humbly bow to the greatness of PS22. Greg is certainly the coolest music teacher ever. I would be pleased to take the silver behind him anyday! This was the first year of the choir, so ya the tuning isn't terrific.
Join the Children's Choir of teh Internet. Any WI kids here that want to make a Minecraft video and sing on the band Cloud Cult's new album join us for Choir Camp. Must have been in 3rd-6th grade last year to participate. Starts July 23, 2012. Visit OurMusicalLife com or like Our Musical Life on Facebook for more info.
Congratulations for this version!!! It's just a song, it´s an alternative option that the children can sing without a trauma or something like that! :)
Yes compare it to Radiohead and the sound quality as well. I applaud the choir teacher and the beautiful and endearing sound of the choir itself for singing one of the saddest and my favourite Radiohead songs. I find this to be the most poignant covers of a Radiohead song ever.
it's not like the kids probably even know what the song is about...awesome song and I agree that I think the teacher is just a huge Radiohead fan (like myself) who just wants to share their great music with others
THis is total genius, i dont think the teacher realised the haunting, and ironic vibe this would create, but it did...it really hurts me to see these kids singing , essentially, about the life which is in front of most of them "a job that slowly kills you" and if the job doesnt kill you, the government will .. bring them down kids, dont let them kill you like they are killing us ... peace
@tellytubies123 it is in the wrong key, i would have had some older kids who could actually play the song the way the band could to play while the kids sang
Actually, benp94, Thom Yorke, the guy who wrote the song, completely denied that the song has anything to do with suicide. I think the line "I'll take a quiet life, a handshake with carbon monoxide" is an allegory for leaving behind idealism and passions of the youth and settling into a boring and safe life of an average citizen - a steady cubicle job, nice car, pretty house...in other words, fitter, happier, more productive - a pig in a cage on antibiotics.
@TheLostThought only the one about how it "instills the concept which could result in something bad overtime, we see it everywhere in our society". just gimme an example of that one. or don't and well never chat again
I think thom yorke would have a heart attack if he saw this. He always says in interviews how weird his soft voice is when what he is singing is acid and this is just to weird. How does the teacher not know how depressing this song is and the person its about.
they probably don't really know what the words mean.. just sounds like a pretty song to them. And even if they did, would singing it really ruin they're lives? like, "oh no this song makes me realize life is a throw away! I give up!" ridiculous.
I don't understand the silly people saying this shouldn't be sung by children. It's not like the lyrics are EVIL! They're just dark, and there's nothing wrong with introducing children to the darker side of life. It's certainly unwise to try to shield them from it.
Hey, John Lennon had the Harlem Boy's choir sing Happy X-Mas, and while that was nowhere near the content of this song, it adds a certain other emotion to it. Anyways, the choir director is probably just a music geek who wanted to escape drab children's choir music... trust me, I was in a children's choir in my young days... and those songs were dumb as dirt.
yeah the meanings to the lyrics you offer in the summary are questionable. i dont think any one can say for sure what they think it means .. they can only give their interpretation. but if u used it to get a positive msg across to the kids then good on you
I cant understand a word these kids are saying...Are they speaking English? Who recorded this? They should've put up a clearer version...Cant watch this.
would you rather that they sing something fairytalish? the sooner they learn, the better. the really disturbing thing is that people believe that being ignorant equals safe. do you know what they're singing?
you act like none of these kids listen to fall out boy or soulja boy or britney spears...... i would much rather them sing radiohead or at least a song with good composition like such.... stop hating and commiserate haha

I allways thinked... "I'd like to do a choir of this song..."
thank you for this! beautifull
So eerily beautiful! Thanks for posting this!!
Wow. This video made me cry. Really really beautiful. It's completely honest and innocent.
This is how to raise kids right!!!
This is just about the most adorable thing I have ever seen in my life.
I think it's excellent that you followed up the song with an in-depth dialog with the students. Bravo!
Oh boy, I can't believe people were okay with children singing this song XD Don't get me wrong, I simply LOVE this song and I think it's brilliant, but it has a very dark meaning not really suited for children....
It warms my heart to hear children singing about bringing down the government.
Coolest music teacher, ever.
this made me cry. absolutely brilliant.
Bravo! To get kids interested in music, let them sing what they know. When i was in school our music teacher let us sing a couple of Beatles songs and they were always sang loudest by all. Radiohead might be a little deep but still this was beautiful!
This is coolest concert ever.
a job that slowly kiiiiiiiillls you
Amazing.

muy bien!!!!
love this!
AWESOME!!!
@TheBuddha94 yeah it is.
@Zendrig I humbly bow to the greatness of PS22. Greg is certainly the coolest music teacher ever. I would be pleased to take the silver behind him anyday! This was the first year of the choir, so ya the tuning isn't terrific.
I'm the person that sent the link to greenplastic... I had to share this with the world... great job.
by far one of the most cool things i've seen
I LIKE, !!!!!!!
agree with you dude!
Very awesome job Donovan's dad!
@JBfirstdance305 Where are you now and why aren't you in choir?!
Agreed 100%.

Dude that would be so sweet. Kids singing radiohead songs.
wow, that was like the perfect description. you should write a book
Very Nice
education, you are doing it epically good
Congratulations for this version!!! It's just a song, it´s an alternative option that the children can sing without a trauma or something like that! :)
@ECDCXL its about the stagnation of urban culture caused by mass consumerism. look at the lyrics
Yes compare it to Radiohead and the sound quality as well. I applaud the choir teacher and the beautiful and endearing sound of the choir itself for singing one of the saddest and my favourite Radiohead songs. I find this to be the most poignant covers of a Radiohead song ever.
This is what kids should be singing rather than crappy
hyms, brilliant stuff, well done!!
why couldnt i go to a school like that when i was younger? lucky kids.
it's not like the kids probably even know what the song is about...awesome song and I agree that I think the teacher is just a huge Radiohead fan (like myself) who just wants to share their great music with others
this is so cool

In some small way hearing a bunch of children sing the words "bring down the government" brings joy to my heart!
@tellytubies123 it is in the wrong key, i would have had some older kids who could actually play the song the way the band could to play while the kids sang
they must have an awesome music teacher!
haha these kids are rockin radiohead before i was
kids are the future 4 real!
I am glad there are still humans out there.....
OMG this is so ridiculous!!! I guess you're never too young to calmly sing about how awful, lonely, and destructive life is these days.
I love it!
Read the description?
hahaha I agree completely with your comment. This was really cool
in the last part it sounds like they are just going la la la la la la la la la la la or something
@TheLostThought its gonna put "bad thoughts" in their heads?
im in a chidlrens choir, and the one thing i know about choir teachers, is that they think theyre really cool by making us sing dark music.
@TheLostThought and...?
@TheLostThought why?
It's entirely appropriate.
@TheLostThought only the one about how it "instills the concept which could result in something bad overtime, we see it everywhere in our society". just gimme an example of that one. or don't and well never chat again
the kids voices would melt down the goverment.
ha, the first of the children.
I think thom yorke would have a heart attack if he saw this. He always says in interviews how weird his soft voice is when what he is singing is acid and this is just to weird. How does the teacher not know how depressing this song is and the person its about.
:O !
they probably don't really know what the words mean.. just sounds like a pretty song to them. And even if they did, would singing it really ruin they're lives? like, "oh no this song makes me realize life is a throw away! I give up!" ridiculous.
a handshake of carbon monoxiddeee

it's kinda ironic
the song is talking about stuff they don't even understand.
if it has a children's-song sound , it doesn't have to be one.
@BikerBorg "Coolest music teacher, ever."
No. Close second maybe. ;-)
I love the song choice. I'm not equally impressed with the performance though.
Who decided to let a bunch of little kids sing this? Did they even know what they were singing?! That said, it's kinda cool.
yeah the meanings to the lyrics you offer in the summary are questionable. i dont think any one can say for sure what they think it means .. they can only give their interpretation. but if u used it to get a positive msg across to the kids then good on you
Oh really? U wrote the song did u? I'm sure different ppl getting different meanings from the song
lolz I saw my lil bro
if u stop it right at 20 seconds he is the boy in the second row with the glasses rofl
The kids singing this song is surreal and very odd...sort of funny, but actually more bizarre than funny.
I cant understand a word these kids are saying...Are they speaking English? Who recorded this? They should've put up a clearer version...Cant watch this.
i couldn;t hold my laugh, why children singing about depression and suiciding???!!
audio is very unprofessional
i highly doubt they understand what the lyrics mean
What?
Its not about suicide, its about being trapped in a dead end life...still strange choice for a school choir
I disagree. I think Thom would love this in a weird way.
if u stop the video at 20 seconds my brother is the top left lol
Bring down the government, they don't speak for us coming from some 8 year olds... classic
Cool music teacher
why ...? LOVE THE SONG, BUT KIDS SINGING IT
would you rather that they sing something fairytalish?
the sooner they learn, the better.
the really disturbing thing is that people believe that being ignorant equals safe.
do you know what they're singing?
Does anyone else realize the irony in this?
you act like none of these kids listen to fall out boy or soulja boy or britney spears...... i would much rather them sing radiohead or at least a song with good composition like such.... stop hating and commiserate haha
todos esos niños ya se suicidaron xd
What is detestable? The pig in a cage on antibiotics? I wouldn't say detestable. More like, pitiful.
