I hope this merger provides the best of both worlds: Six Flags Flash Pass, Cedar Fair quality editions, Six flags coverage & expansion, Cedar Fair reliability - basically all the advantages and (hopefully) none of the disadvantages

To be clear, US laws involving monopolies and mergers don't kick in till after the merger is announced.
The FTC (federal trade commission) then decides if it merger has monopoly potential, and sues if they do.
So this deal hasn't gone through yet. And the FTC has a decent shot at challenging this merger as it is so publicly large it draws attention. This merger's announcement made national headlines. Hell, my mom even knew about it.

We live in the Charlotte area and Carowinds is our home park. We are taking a wait-n-see approach for now. We love how Cedar Fair operates its parks, specifically here at Carowinds. Six Flags is known for not taking care of their parks and I would hate to see our CF’s parks start getting run down. With CF’s owning 51.2% of shares, it makes me not worry as much. I’m praying that any changes that take place will be for the positive.

I don’t like this idea at all and I have SO many questions…
    1. It seems too much of a monopoly for other parks outside these two chains. How can smaller parks compete against such a behemoth?
    2. Crossover maybe not now, but what about down the road? I don’t want to see superheroes at Knott’s. Conversely I would not want another Camp Snoopy at Magic Mountain either.
    3. Will Cedar Fair parks start using Intamin and RMC now? Or will Six Flags STOP using Intamin and RMC?
    4. Will Six Flags Great Adventure lose their parachute tower in the way Knott’s did? And what will happen to Kingda Ka? Top Thrill Dragster treatment? And will other parks in Cedar Fair chain now get a new Vekoma coaster like Great Adventure is getting?
    5. Will Six Flags operations be improved? Will abandoned things like Magic Mountain’s observation tower get opened or removed?
    6. Will prices go up?
    7. Will Halloween events get better at Six Flags, or worse at Cedar Fair, especially Knott’s?
    8. Will this supposed money saving results transfer into MORE rides being built because they have more money? OR will LESS rides be built because they have less competition and are spread too thin?
    9. Having gone through a merger, I found it to be a disaster as the cultures were different, there were turf battles, people were laid off so there was loss of institutional knowledge…in fact I was a victim of that myself, and the combined company didn’t even last long and was eventually sold off to another company. I would not want to see this kind of collapse happen and then NEITHER Six Flags or Cedar Fair owns these parks. I also worry about the disruption and chaos such a big merger will bring. Will it defocus everyone for awhile thus hurting the parks for a bit?

I’m hoping it goes this way: Cedar Fair management and Six Flags with the manufacturer decisions. That way we can get good food AND Intamins! If America turns into Zamperla/B&M/GCI world with no RMCs (outside Hershey, SW Funspot, etc.) or Intamins (outside SW, Universal, and maybe some Independent parks) then that will be very sad.

The lack of competition is not that big of a deal for a product like amusement parks because their competition isn't other amusement parks - it's EVERY SINGLE FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT. If the company was to say "hey we killed our competition now we can half ass it", eventually only enthusiasts would show up and they'd go out of business. They will DEFINITELY keep building great roller coasters and improving the parks. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

G'day! This would be a disaster for everyone who cares about the industry and roller coasters in the US. The reason is simple. The larger the corporation, the shittier it’s product and customer service. They become “too big to fail” and then slowly fail. Competition is healthy for both of these giants and we honestly need them to be split, not combined. No single owner should control that much of a single industry.
    Cheers!
P.S. Note: Cedar is the one in control, but I do wonder, if it'll be like merging a pitcher of sewage with a barrel of wine. Lol!! 🤣

Its combined decisions and cedar fair has the upper hand as the main holder. Chances are six flags rides would have name changes cause of that upper hand if they even wanted to change ride names. And plus the ceo is still richard zimmerman who is the owner of cedar fair. They also stated in the video not every six flags park will get peanuts and not every cedar fair park would get superheros and looney toons. Plus if they dont listen to what the people want they will just lose visitors and share holders so they still have to be smart with their moves.

I bet Six Flags could learn a lot from Cedar Fair, such as better operations, improvements in cleanliness and atmosphere, and less ride closures. I am worried they could loose a few parks in the process, but I don't think they'd do that unless it was a "get out of trouble" situation and they were out of options.

Everyone knows six flags rides. Don’t run all the time due to maintenance problems as Cedar Fair they make sure it Caswell and rice run all the time because they make sure they’re fixed and running properly. Let’s hope this is not a problem. Will it become a huge merger I don’t want to get rid of canada’s Wonderland I go there every year with my daughter I’m from Windsor Ontario. It’s a long drive for me, but it’s worth it. but in the end, I hope that becomes a better park to go to, and they make a lot of new rides and new tractions.

Isn’t the brand recognition the reason for keeping the Six Flags name in the first place? I don’t understand the confidence that Richard Zimmerman would be opposed to having a Six Flags Cedar Point. That uniformity could be enough to clarify which parks would be included for prospective season pass buyers. I don’t want that to happen, but it seems like enough justification for the company to make that decision over preserving the purity of Cedar Fair park names.

Cedar Fair parks are not changing their names at any parks. Knotts is iconic in the Southern CA and SF Magic Mtn largely have different core consumers so noting will change. MM is a teenager thrill park, Knotts is family park with great theming, best in CF chain, shows, live actors, Ghost town and some good thrill rides, but that's not their emphasis like MM. Knotts pricing structure is much higher than MM and thus that integration could be tricky. Also, Knotts doesn't include their very popular and heralded Knotts Scary farm in pass purchases, while MM includes their Frightfest with passes

I live in Houston and to me it's a shame that Astroworld shut down. The Texas parks are so far away from me and Houston is a massive population center. I'm certain there are tons of other cities in the same boat too.

@@ahyes589 Houston is literally the first city I thought of! Still crazy that no one has built anything there yet. I know there have been other projects announced that keep kind of falling through, but maybe this merger will be the move that finally gets that ball rolling.
Also, Denver is potentially looking to lose Elitch Gardens pretty soon. I don’t know if they have the finances to actually relocate like I’ve heard they planned to do. Also, maybe Indianapolis? Sacramento, CA? Nashville, TN? Chicago could probably support another amusement park, too. So many possibilities, but no one has so far been willing to take the leap and build a new ground-up amusement park in recent years other than Universal and Disney.

Cedar Fair CEO (can’t remember which one) basically said from their research you’ll never see another successful regional amusement park open in the US again. It’s just too hard. Most cities won’t approve permits. Those that will don’t have a strong enough market to sustain it.

SF Q3 was not strong. They are essentially the same as FY2022 which was a disaster(they slid back to 2018 levels). They are actually worse in net income in the Q3 and YTD by 30M. They were only up in attendance off of the disaster of 2022 where they lost 7.4M in attendance overt the full year. All Sf numbers were vs an easy comp ofthe disaster of FY2022 and they still were down on many metrics.
---CF quarter was actually strong, revenue was 842M, down just 1M from the record FY2023 and net income was down 118M, but that 2022 number was jacked by the 155M addition for the CGA land sale, if you exclude the 155M addition (non repeatable event) Q3 net income was actually up 37M. CF essentially produced equal revenue despite all the talk of the economy slowing in 2023 in a tough comp vs the 2022 revenge spend year, post covid.
