  • Using these instructions, you can be sure your Rightline Gear cargo carrier will be secured to your car, WITHOUT the need for a roof rack!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    First, you will need to secure the car clips to your straps (if they are not there already.) You can do this by feeding the looped end of the strap through the back side of the clip. Then, take the other end of the strap and run it through the loop. Pull the strap tight, until it creates a flat knot around the end of the clip.
    make sure that the non-zippered side is facing forward. Next, you will want to arrange your four (4) attachment straps based on the orientation of your luggage rack. For side rails, you'll attach a strap to each of the side buckles. For cross bars, you'll attach two (2) straps to the front buckles, and the other two (2) to the rear buckles.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Next, make sure that the non-zippered side is facing forward and line up the side buckles to the door frame of the vehicle. For four (4) door vehicles, a single strap will go around each of the door's interior weather molding. For two (2) door vehicles, the two (2) straps on each side of the carrier will clip to the same door frame.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    To attach the straps to your car, start with the clips positioned inward, towards the carrier. Take the strap and feed it under and through the middle slot of the buckle, then over and down the front slot of the buckle. If done correctly, the strap will not loosen once it is looped through the buckle. If the strap was attached incorrectly, you will notice a lack of tension which means you need to detach it and repeat these instructions.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Next, you'll want to open the vehicle's doors and locate the interior weather molding. Hook the car clip underneath it, as shown. Do not attempt to hook the car clips into the metal lip of the door or on the front of the door frame; the clips are designed to work perfectly when secured to the weather molding and will not function properly if used incorrectly. Repeat this step with the remaining straps, then tighten them and close the doors over the attachment straps.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Finally, tie the excess material of the strap down so that it does not flap around while the car is in motion. If you notice flapping or noise, loosen your straps, reposition them slightly, and proceed to tighten them and tie down the loose material as directed.

    I would not want to bend weather molding as can clearly see at 1:37. There has to be a more secure attachment point that won't damage the car.

      i would detach the door weather molding ..hook the clip to the metal lip under it ,then re attach the molding. It will not harm the metal( clip is coated) nor deform the moldings.

    • @walspeed
      @walspeed 2 года назад +3

      The video is wrong. Your supposed to pull the molding down from the door jam and the clip goes on the door seam under the molding. Then you push the molding back in place over the clip

      @fredericlinden Год назад

      @@walspeed Well, I would not say the video is wrong. I am certain they did serious series of tests. And if you read, not watch, reviews online (...), nobody reports any issue following the method in the video. I do have watched a video doing what you describe, and honestly, it made me cringe a few times. The moldings, at least on my BMW, are tight (as it should...) and actually feel glued. After all, it is meant to be watertight. I would not dare pulling them down...
      In any case, I prefer using the Method "Through the (inside of) the vehicle".

    Hello, I would be so so grateful if the same gentleman could find a few minutes to do a video demonstrating in details the Method without a Roof Rack - Through the (inside of) the vehicle, and the best possible way to attach and place the straps. Please let me know if you intend to do such video.

    Are there different types of door hook- the ones I'm looking at say to pull the door seel off a bit and put them under the rubber seal, then push the seel back into place. are the clips in this vidio the same?

    My hooks leak. I have a 2007 Camry. It's been a problem while traveling the country and the best solution I've come up with is putting a super-absorbent diaper around each hook when it rains. Surely other people have encountered this problem and have found a better solution.

      Pull the molding out of the way and attach the clip to the metal of the door frame under the molding, then tuck the molding back over the clip. This guide is not good.
