Hitler once described him as his most loyal supporter. Martin Bormann was a fervent anti-Semite and right-wing extremist from an early age. With anticipatory obedience, Bormann earned himself numerous offices - and made himself indispensable. For eight years, Bormann was chief of staff to the Führer's deputy Rudolf Hess. After Hess was removed from office due to his mysterious flight to Scotland, Bormann succeeded in distancing himself from him and even became his successor as Hitler's private secretary.
During the war, Bormann became the dictator's closest confidant and eventually reached a position in which he decided on everything and everyone that was to reach Hitler. During the Nazi regime, he remained unknown to most Germans, but Bormann was the powerful string-puller of the »Third Reich«. In the shadow of his leader Adolf Hitler, the devout schemer ensured that the dictatorship functioned mercilessly until the very end.
