Scotland Drone Filming - Ancient Scotland

- Having spent the past seven months travelling all over Scotland to shoot my new film, ANCIENT SCOTLAND, I’ve never been more proud to call this country home.
Shot at twenty one stunning locations from as the far north as Muckle Flugga at the very top of Shetland to the prehistoric wonder of Britain’s highest sea stacks near St Kilda, some 40 miles west of the Outer Hebrides.
As the third in a series of Scottish aerial films, I wanted to continue the progression of theme. My first film, Beautiful Scotland, was really just a collection of beautiful shots. My second, Wild Scotland, embraced the wild theme of this country, featuring many of our wild animals. So for this third instalment I had to look deeper at what defines Scotland for me. It soon dawned on me that Scotland has so much of the ancient about it, not just in terms of architecture but far older geology (a field of study which has its roots here). This led to a shot list ranging from incredible, imposing castles through to totemic sea stacks and the looming presence of St Kilda, a citadel of rock standing proud amidst the crashing maelstrom of the Atlantic which was inhabited until the 1930s.
Of course, having already shot two films in Scotland, I’d already picked the low hanging fruit of the more accessible locations so the logistics of reaching and filming this film were definitely more challenging. Each shot involved some kind of, often physically demanding, adventure. Notable examples include a four day round trip to Shetland to capture 10 seconds of footage; the challenge of getting to the wildly remote sea stacks near St Kilda; and weathering 8 hours of miserable weather in a bivvy bag on a ridge in Skye, just to be there for sunrise.
The process of filming this has led to personal experiences which defy superlatives, not least the simple, awe inspiring, moments surrounded by silence as the sun rises over the horizon. Being on top of a mountain when the sun rises is an experience you will never forget.
Scotland is truly a country made for those who love the outdoors in its wonder. Get out and explore it.
Shot on DJI Inspire 2 with X5S and X7, PRORES 422HQ

Nicely done. If you are ever in Skye and Lochalsh area again and looking for new material, the Five Sisters of Kintail from Mam Ratagan is amazing all year round
Absolutely beautiful work.
There is a lot of drone footage films about Scotland these days but I have to say that your films are really the best. The composition of pictures, sound and music is excellent. There is also a great choice of location and we, who know these places, we must admire the hard work you had to put in to capture these places in such times and conditions. Thank you for that.
Milan Boháč hi there are thousands of ancient sites in Scotland that don't appear on you tube you would be surprised
You’re videos are stunningly beautiful and really capture the essence of the magic and variety of Scotland so well. I don’t know anyone else that captures it so poignantly. The music and composition works brilliantly. Thank you from a Scot far away from home and longing to be back.
Thomas Kinghorn Me Too!👍🏻🏴🇨🇦🌅❤️
I lived between Edinburgh ware I was born and ware were all from and Australia ware our family immigrated, when I was away i couldn’t explain to my mum that I didn’t just miss my people etc, I missed the very grass beneath me, the way out birds sounded, the rain! , the smell of Edinburgh when we landed. The list goes on, the feeling of Scotland is one within you and when away it tears your heart. Listening to Caledonia even now, brings up those homesick longing feelings, needless to say, soon as I could I stopped those long term visits and got married to a Scottish soldier and settled in the borders eventually.
I never missed oz when I was home, only my nana that stayed.
These videos would’ve been all I watched if they’d been available, but I think it’d have made me choose quicker, ware I felt home was. This video is amazing. It shows just what I couldn’t word
One of my nieces shared this with me, my siblings and their children as we hail from Scotland (many moons ago). I have never been back but this video makes me miss the beautiful parts of Scotland that I never saw. STUNNING!

Almost! Thats a pole! We're hid behind a trig point up there
@@johnduncan4887 Gosh darnit! Almost!
Cheers for the amazing footage, if only I could have used a drone when I made my short documentary on Tinto a few years ago (I am remastering it) instead of heaving my camera on its tripod all the way up to the summit, waist deep in snow lol. It just goes to show what can be achieved with drones nowadays.
Great video and footage, very nice indeed, beautiful. Got my support and new subscriber here
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Stunning video!! What is the castle at 1:29? And how on earth did you capture Kilda so beautifully?! Must have been so hard to land an Aspire 2 at that location! Cheers.

Ah I was looking over there from Lochawe on Saturday after our Cruachan dam hike. (KIlchurn not Suilven...I wish!)
Пульс незабвенного естества.
My view of Scotland is very depressing country. Seriously guys it's ok for 2 or 3 days with this weather than stay away from here .
Go home then
