Is all Wild Turkey and Russell's REALLY the Same Mashbill? - BRT 182

  • Many may find it surprising that a brand as historic as Wild Turkey that is so largely distributed would only have a couple mashbills. But the question is, do ALL of the bourbons that Wild Turkey and Russell's offer really come from just one bourbon mashbill?

    I started drinking Wild Turkey 101 when they put 8-yr-old on the label. Back during the 2000's they stopped that. It was my understanding that they were selling all the 8yr-old in Japan. I want it back in the USA.

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  Год назад

      They have maintained age statements in Japan while dropping them in the US. With demand being so high they likely won't bring back the age statement in the US anytime soon. They want the flexibility to through some younger bourbon in the batch if they need to do so to keep supply flowing.

    Kentucky spirt very underrated- it is min of 8 years but some are 9-10 years old. It still occurs that a single barrel selected for a Russels Reserve pick has a proof under 110 -so they bottle them as Kentucky Sprit - I have one from Camp Nelson C (CNC)- excellent!

    So the msrp of a Russles sb at 110 proof is $48, but a Kentucky Spirit sb at 101 is $65? What's the math on this? I know the KS is at least 8 years and a Russle's can be less i guess, but a $20 difference?

    • @BourbonRealTalk
      @BourbonRealTalk  Год назад +1

      WTKS is the worst value that WT offers. In their defense the bottling and labeling cost of a single barrel is much higher, and KS used to be in a much more ornate bottle, so that would account for some of the price difference. I suspect they targeted pricing around Blanton's SiB, and that is why that one SKU is relatively expensive when you look at the rest of their core lineup.

For a frame of reference, I tend to favor offerings from the lines of Elijah Craig, Wild Turkey, Russell’s Reserve and Abe Bowman. Jack Daniel’s Bonded came in as a big surprise. It drinks like the most delicate pastry dessert, seriously decadent. Old Grand Dad is a solid staple that I will forever respect and have on my shelf. I simply gave a couple of examples of how the content could have related to the title, which was my perspective on calling it click bait. It wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list. I'd have had nothing to say if they called it a guide to the wild turkey and Russell's line up.
