I had to listen to this message again Pastor Snell. What a word. Forgiveness. Too much unforgiveness in the church. Yet we want to go to heaven and we can forgive our earthly brothers.
Pastor Snell!!! This was a great word & right on time!! May God continue to be with us all as we do as you just preached!! Forgiveness is key!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
What a crucial message that challenges us to grow spiritually. I would like to explore more about relating to others after forgiving them. My question is, if we see that we expect something from those who cannot give, should we still subject ourselves to them, even after forgiving them for hurting us.
Praises to the Most High God for this message. A reminder indeed. As a Christian I am called upon to maintain boundaries, conviction and character. Can’t get in a mud fight with someone who doesn’t have such values.
Forgiveness is conditional and involves remorse and repentance with amends. 2 Chronicles 7:14-16 says that when folk humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways is when the Lord forgives. Next, the Lord put within everyone's conscience the knowledge of right or wrong. Thus, those folk who refuse to apologize are those do it intentionally. They get no excuse for not seeking to make things right behind their foul treatment. It's the Holy Spirit who convicts and converts people. Followers of Christ are required to make things right with their brother when they harm them. Those who fail to do so, the Lord says, Vengeance is mine and the would repay. Here's a different take on the story about the king who canceled the debt the debtor couldn't pay. The amount his so high the debtor can never repay it. Mercy is defined as . . . compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm. The debtor begs for mercy and amazingly the king grants it. The debtor later sees a guy who owes him money. He grabs and debtor and demands payment. This debtor begs for mercy and promises to pay the debt yet the creditor refuses to extend mercy. When the king hears about how ungrateful the first guy was, he has him arrested, re-instates the debt, and puts him in prison because he cannot pay. The lesson: Those to whom much is given yet refuse to extend the same to others can have that which they've received taken back. This, I suspect, few consider. This interpretation is different than that promoted by the minister in this video. How might 'mercy' as defined above work in practice? Here's a potential example. Wow Joe (or Jane) you are such a loving and forgiving person. Joe (or Jane) replies 'I wasn't always this way.' What changed? Joe (or Jane) replies 'I've done some pretty awful things in my life and mistreated a lot of people. One day the Lord in His mercy forgave me my sins. Said He'd wiped my record clean. I was overjoyed. I now do what He did for me. All the folk who've hurt and let me down only remind me of how I treated Him. I am now able to let go of the anger and desire for revenge. I've come to appreciate Him and His goodness more and more because I know I didn't deserve His mercy. I deserved to be punished for my sins. I've also seen folk who I've shown mercy to who didn't deserve it change. Some, not all, have come to appreciate me more and treat me better. That's the power of mercy when it comes in contact with the right heart.
There can be forgiveness without reconciliation. Only I can forgive the one who has tarnished my reputation. But if I desire to reconcile with the one who has hurt me on such a deep level and he/she has no desire to reconcile, but wants to keep the fire going, what can I do? Takes one to forgive, more than one to reconcile.
Amen! The Time is Now! Tomorrow isn't promised! The next hour isn't even promised!
