7:35 "I think that a lot of writers write the book they THINK they are supposed to write or feel they are qualified to write, rather than the book they really secretly WANT to write." That is the best writing quote I think I've ever heard!!!
@@KAEmmons hey Kate, if I join now, am I still able to get the December workbook? I know you said I’m able to still see the replay, but is the downloadable still available? Thank you!
Hi Abbie and Kate. At the beginning of 2024, I said to myself that I wanted to finish the first draft of my fantasy novel. In october I outlined my book after learning from you the three act structure and I started again the book. I wrote a lot during nanowrimo and I wrote even more in december. Now I finished it. I'm so proud. Thank you❤
My main writing projects this coming years are ; 1. Finish this Zero Draft of the Emberstone 2. Rewrite my Zero Draft of Heart of the Forest that i wrote during Nanowrimo (and hopefully second draft and publish it this year as well) 3. Same as above, but for the Emberstone. 4. Start and hopefully finish my Christmas story idea in time for next Christmas. Thank you Kate and Abbie, its because of your videos that I got back into writing this year, i had been intending to write during nanowrimo, but usually i don't actually finish anything, but your videos helped me stay in the game long enough to finish my zero draft of Heart of the Forest, and then helped me start The Emberstone. and for the first time in years i actually feel creative again. I really hope i will have a couple of published books to show for it at the end of the year.
I have my first draft done, and I am determined to publish my debut novel this year! I have a whole revision schedule planned out (with flexibility) and I have some beta readers and critique partners selected. So stoked!! 2025 is my year!!
Just wanted to say thank you for uploading to spotify!! I binge listen at work to keep my mind focused on my book and I get so pumped to write when I get home! Abbie has been the little (stern) angel on my Author Shoulder for many years now 💖
I have written four children’s books, but this year, my plan is to write a novel! I just started outlining, but this video inspires me to finish the outline this week and start writing next week. It’s okay if it does take me a year, but I’m going to dedicate myself to writing six days a week. 🎊 Happy writing, everyone!!!
I've been writing for almost four decades and what works for me is setting a schedule for myself not only to write but to rest as well. My Sifu had us on a specific training schedule and he would always stress the importance of full rest. I like a lot of the concepts you guys present here. I suppose I have the same approach to writing that I do Gong Fu :)
This was my favorite episode of the podcast so far, you ladies were really on a roll in this one!! I sacrificed my Netflix subscription so I could join Kate's Patreon for 2025-so worth it!! My debut novel is going to be called _Bone Marrow Magic._ It's a high fantasy about the complex relationship between fear and love, which follows an adolescent girl as she seeks to rescue her kidnapped father from the witch-prince who has him in his clutches and, in the course of her journey, is forced to call into question everything she thought she knew about herself, other people, and the world. I've had the idea for this novel for quite a few years, and I've been working on outlining it for a few weeks at this point after several false starts in the past several years. I really want 2025 to be the year I finally write and publish it! I've given myself what I feel is a _very_ generous deadline of finishing the first draft by October 1, 2025, mostly so I can finally start working on a new project in Preptober! However, I feel decently confident that I'll be able to finish _Bone Marrow Magic_ much sooner than that-especially with the help of you ladies!! Happy writing to all, and good fortune in the New Year!!
I started writing a fractured fairytale because I love fractured fairy tales and I wanted to get back into the vibe of storytelling. The project felt too nebulous, plus I really felt more motivated to work on a completely other story once I was a little warmed up on the fractured fairytale. It really was the feeling overwhelmed, feeling like I'd be plodding away forever on this other project that made it easy to give in to changes in my life and be distracted by other projects that felt more attainable. There really is something to be said for breaking a project into attainable goals and really celebrating those milestones.
This has probably been my favorite episode so far, it is true that you want to always maintain that desire to want to write the world you want; I was just dealing with some tedious dialogue passages and I thought how much I wanted to get on to some other stuff, so I took a step back and some time away and really thought about it and was able to write some microcosmic instances into the segment that actually made it fun
I just wrote my first novel in 2024, and my goal is to get it published in 2025. It was interesting that you mentioned writing about the things that fascinate you. I did exactly that, and I found that I couldn't wait to write every day. Another thing was that the characters themselves wouldn't stop "talking" in my head, so that made it hard to skip any days! 🤣
Thank you so much, Kate and Abbie!! This is literally so helpful! I loved what you said about when you put away writing for a while you get burnt out. I realized... hey, that's exactly what happened to me right now. Ty!!! 💖
You guys are great! Your videos are always helpful and insightful! Thanks for bringing us free content to help us all improve on the great craft of writing!
Thanks so much yall! looking forward to the summit .< So my goal this year is to start my debut novel. Once I get there, I know more goals will unravel. But I gotta get to the starting line first Dx Also yesss doing a little bit helps so much! It's so gratifying to check on progress too. I got out of the habit of reading when I was in uni bc I was focusing on my career and did the same thought process of "ill sit down to read later when I have time" and stopped bc I wasn't meeting my reading goals. My head was just so full of school stuff that I stopped reading for fun and after graduating it was hard to get back in the habit so I didn't get back to it until recently when I decided I'm gonna write. I wasn't reading at first, but committing to just one chapter a day has helped me get back into reading so much and it feels so nice. I can physically see my progress too. When I first started, those first few days were a bit discouraging bc I didn't make it very far. But now I can see how much of the book has been read and I know if I just put it off when I "had time" or "felt like it" that I probably still wouldn't have cracked it open even tho I love it and find reading as a form of self-care. Love you two and can't wait to see everyone who attends Muse next month n.n
My master Kate and Abbie unfortunately I stopped my writing journey because I don't know the way of writing a novel like a fiction novel. So anyway thank you 2025 and happy new year 🎉🎉.
Im working on a novella, im hoping to finish the first draft before the new year, then I want to take a break and start on my main story which is a series, and also work on a simple animation .
I have the writing journey down, though because of regular work I only have a couple of hours per night to write. I even have a couple of books written out already. What I’d like to know is how to get published/finding a publisher. Can you maybe share some tips in this arena?
Cant seem to find the Episodes on streaming platforms like apple Podcast. Is this on purpose and has anyone else having the trouble? Would love to listen to them whilst walking the dog. And chance you will be back to uoloading on Podcast platforms? 🙏🏻
I have a chronic headache. I am sick five days every week. It started in December 2023 and I do medical test after medical test and in February I will have another test in a specialized center and I take medication. How can I manage writing consistently with this headache that eighty percent of the time is so strong I have to stay in bed for hours during the day? This year I didn't write the whole month of February and then in April, in October and in part of November. For the rest of the year, I wrote my fanfictions (I have to longfictions in progress) and poems, so I wrote, but it was soi hard. And having anxiety, depression and panic attacks (I'm diagnosed and I take medication since 2015), certainly doesn't help.
Have you tried writing on your phone? I have chronic health issues as well and when I have flareups, I find it so much easier to just sit in bed and write on my phone without worrying about getting my tablet or getting on my computer/going to a specific place in the house and writing. Even when it's just a paragraph here and there, trying to think about the WIP throughout the day and what comes next, adding a few paragraphs at a time, goes a long way. I ended up writing a whole 80k fanfic a few years ago all on my phone in short bursts while still dealing with health flareups. It is harder, but setting realistic expectations and goals and taking it a little bit at a time does help.
