The first Early Californios Skills of the Ranchos was held in 2013. It's been getting bigger and better each year. With lots of laughter , comradarie, great horsemanship and and an all around fun weekend for everyone- I wish I lived closer! Thank you Bruce, for starting this event. I believe it will continue to grow with each generation!

Sounds like a good time and I like the idea of doing it the way you would on the ranch, in our ranch roping events we have a long shot award for the roper that makes the best long loop of the weekend, cause around here you’re horse needs to know how to follow but most shots are taken before the calf starts to run to keep the stress level as low as possible to help them recover as fast as possible, great slideshow and sounds like a lot of fun

What a beautiful event and a great video. What year did this event start? I am guessing this was started a while after the Califonio's competition had ended. Thank you for time and effort put into this video.

It is a shame that people are so caught up in the tradition of the bridle horse, use of the spade bit. Traditional hackamore or rope halter with lead line converted to reins are excellent means to good feel. One mistake with the spade bit and the horse reacts to the pain.

@@raftermhequine4469 If one has a soft feel, there is no reason for using a spade bit or any type of bit for that matter.
