The Quangsheng is great value for the money, it will never be as good as a top brand radio, but it does the business. The firmware is constantly evolving and bringing more people into the hobby.
got mine QK5 factory stock firmware with no brand telescopic 27mhz antenna..so far im hunting ISS transmission and it doing great..cheers from borneo sabah malaysia 73
Hi Chris , thanks for the video. K5 made a good job even with stock firmware. Using ijv firmware the K5 receiver sensitivity should have been better than Ft 70. 73 I4HMR
Hi nando thanks for watching , This is the original firmware but the ijv mod Can. Make it more sensitive, but it does not have all the proper filters hardware filters. You will get very strong overload if you put an area on that is two much gain
Hi Chris, Moonraker are selling the new UV-5R Plus for 20 pounds. It comes supplied with a 2200 milliamp hour battery. But doesn't have usb c charging. I brought one just to experiment with and I am very impressed with the performance. The receive is so much more sensitive than my FT 70D. I am now using it on my twice daily dog walk. Love the videos. David M0DUU
@@digitalanaloguehamradio No Chris, they have taken out the usb socket and charging circuitry. So it's only possible to charge from the base unit. I do own the first version in black, and the UV 5R Plus which looks similar to a Boafeng UV-5R.
wonder what kind of range this or comparable radios get in a mediumish city. mine has no real skyscrapers a few somewhat tall banks downtown but for most part more like a bunch of small towns mushed together. not alot to block signals but alot to interfere though.
The aerial I was used in was a mono band black whip 2 meter. I chose it because it's the best one I've ever used. Inabilter area you would probably get a few miles but it's fun to take it somewhere high up or out in the field somewhere
i love the radio as the serves the purposes i bought it for! buying a new antenna can give me much more, i really should just to get up on those hills and have a wig :D

Yes your spot on it will never compare it doesn't have the audio quality or the filters but it's a very exciting radio
I got tired of waiting. Did u ever say anything about range/distance achieved?
Fair enough' I got 45 miles on the radio
Chris buddy! Fantastic video mate. For 40 quid it's hard to beat the Quansheng K5. Wooohooo! See ya on the All Star buddy. Cheers
Thanks, mate, it's a super radio. You've got to get one, you'll be the odd one out mountain
£40? More like £14 delivered!!
Hi Mate, this was on the stock firmware but I’m also tested ijv mod it’s really good better than the eggzummer
Yeah I'm on the IJV Mod too Chris.. haven't tried any others as yet though. Thanks for the video mate.

Hey mate glad you're doing great with the radio. For ISS you need VHF UHF aerial installed
@@digitalanaloguehamradio thanks mate..will looking for better vhf&uhf antenna soon...
I have two of these radios both using the stock firmware and Nagoya NA-771 antennas. Greetings from Houston, Texas.
Very good choice of aerial. On this, I have worked one hundred and fifty mile With a standard walkie, talkie from china 4w

Unbelievable distance/quality on a 25 quid radio Chris. You using a custom firmware or stock on yours?
That was an old film it was custom firmware mate

@@digitalanaloguehamradio ya living rural would be nice but limited job options for many of us that keeps us trapped in larger towns or cities.

Yes, get the channels programmed in and it's a decent little radio. I've bought a few of them myself
Its been a while m8 nice to see u
Thanks, Martin, I've had to move house. Twice. And I don't know where everything is. I'm slowly getting there. Thanks for the nice comment
What longer antenna is being used?
It's called a black whip. It's basically a two meter only aerial. Aerials that work on one band are better than one doing both
I got one a few weeks ago but so far it’s just collecting dust😧
Hi Kev please consider putting the firmware on that gives it sideband it's really excellent
@@digitalanaloguehamradiocheers Chris, I will eventually👍
