Why does this documentary of incredible quality specially for RUclips only have about 500 likes?
Glad you appreciated it! The youtube algorithm works in mysterious ways and really ignored this one for quite a while. It's nice to see that the movie has been getting more attention lately, though. If you'd like to help get the word out a little more, feel free to leave a review on Letterboxd, IMDB, or Rotten Tomatoes.

If all goes to plan it should be showing up on some streaming services in the coming months, so it'll be nice that there will be other ways for people to find it as well.

I have a feeling this video is going to boom with views in the coming months.
Here's hoping. The analytics chart has been looking really good lately. Not profitable for me as I only get about 4.3 cents in ad revenues every time somebody watches the full runtime (lol, youtube revenues on this one currently sitting at $18.31), but that's a whole separate question about how broken indie film distribution is as a business in the streaming era. Any way you slice it I'm glad this one is finally starting to get out to more people.
It may pop up on some streaming services in the coming weeks/months too, so if that works out it'll be cool that people will be able to find it outside of youtube as well.
This video suddenly popped up in my recommendations
What a profoundly beautiful person- and a beautiful documentary at that! the world must know this man, his story and the conscientious humanitarian collective that we all belong to.
If anyone wants to help make more people aware of this documentary, feel free to drop by imdb, rotten tomatoes, or letterboxd and write a quick review.

This movie has been pretty under-the-radar for years, but it's nice to see that more people have been finding it lately.
@@WhoIsVerminSupreme i left a review on rotten tomato's a few days ago but it appears there are still no reviews on the site...i was not logged but it did not prompt me to do so, the page simply acknowledged my submission with a gratuity message of acceptance "thank you for your review" or words to that effect and that was that...i wonder if this is a flaw on the site or something else....surely there have been many reviews of such a great piece of documentary journalism? seems odd to me
@@jonwardle8822- I just took a look and it's a bit strange. It says "0 ratings" but then if you click on that you can find your review:
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/who_is_vermin_supreme_an_outsider_odyssey/reviews?type=user&intcmp=rt-scorecard_audience-score-reviews
Seems like rotten tomatoes makes a distinction between "all audience" and "verified audience" but I'm not really sure how that works. Maybe you need an account to be counted as part of the "verified audience"?
Anyway, whatever's going on with rotten tomatoes, thanks for leaving a review!
As for longer form reviews, I think there's really only been one, but it's very nicely written if you ask me:
filmstatic.blogspot.com/2015/03/who-is-vermin-supreme-outsider-odyssey.html
I thought I was watching a short video at first but ended up almost 2 hours later having watched a great documentary. FOR FREE
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm glad this is getting out there more lately, but that free part is a bit of an issue in the grander scheme of things. I make about 4.3 cents every time somebody watches the full runtime of this movie on youtube. It's been watched here more than anywhere else, but total revenues on youtube for this one are currently less than $40. If anybody wants independent productions like these to be more possible, something's going to have to change with the business model of indie film distribution in the streaming era.
I adore this video, my dad use to talk about him often and im glad i got the opertinity to get all of this aditional informatiom in such a well formated way
It's kinda cool that Vermin has an appeal throughout the generations. Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I dont know how i haven't heard of this man until this year, but I know who I'm voting for :)
"A vote for me is a vote wasted" -vermin supreme
The lack of attention this has truly concerns me.
It was hidden behind paywalls for some years. I spent more money making it than I ever made distributing it, but also eventually the online sales tapered off so now it's free here for the people. So far the algorithm doesn't seem so fond of it, but we'll see. Maybe that'll change over time.
Of course blu-rays and dvds are still available at the etsy shop at the link above in the description.
@@WhoIsVerminSupreme People just gotta give more credit to Vermin for being a true hero in disguise tbh.
@Takeshi Matimoto - That's very kind of you to say! It's a tough business, but I'm doing what I can to get my stuff out there.
He deserves a win as much as anyone
Bencil, A Pencil You Can Believe In.
This is incredibly well made, Im surprised it only has this tiny amount of views. 10/10
Thanks! As it happens, I'm currently working on seeing about getting it onto some streaming services. There was a time a few years ago when it was a bit more widely available, but then a company called Distribber filed for bankruptcy and ripped off me and thousands of other indie filmmakers, so it's been sitting here quietly on youtube for a while now.
By the way if you're really into it, I do have some DVDs and Blurays sitting around. Check the etsy shop in the description.
Also if you want to help get the film out there more, give it a review on imdb, rotten tomatoes, or letterboxd.

Vermin Supreme 2024
Hey, beautiful documentary. Both Vermin, his supporters, and you as a cinematographer have inspired me. Hope it becomes successful. The fact that this is a 5+ year documentary in the making is incredible.
Thanks. It was actually only about three years in the making. By April 2014 a slightly longer cut of the film had premiered at the Minneapolis - Saint Paul International Film Festival, and this final cut was finished in 2015. It's too bad it's so difficult to sustainably make even shoestring budget ambitious projects like these happen in the context of the new streaming economy (well, if you don't know the right people, anyway). That is to say, it's very difficult to even recoup the cost of making something like this these days. RUclips in particular tends to primarily reward the creation of many videos that can be thrown together quickly: vlogs, video essays, and the like. Still, I'm proud of this one, despite its flaws.
This needs to be spread worldwide.

“People who held old ideas they die out. It’s the young people with the young ideas that come up.” That’s a good reason to keep going even if my life isn’t turning out the way I wanted. I might see a future where poverty decreases.

Hey! great documentary. I had a question, what song did you use before the into?
Thanks. The main soundtrack is by The Poor Nobodys. When I received that track it was called "Ink Guitar Mando." I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's on the soundtrack album they released as "Ink 1." shorturl.at/qzCKU
Thanks! I really liked the guitar on it so might want to try and learn it on guitar.
@Am0n - Cool. Yeah, those guys are really talented. Their other music is good too. There's a sort of alternate version of that track on this album:

It's closer to this version that I recorded when they were getting the soundtrack together:

This damned movie made me agree with Tim Pool about one thing and now I'm furious. Good job
I haven't followed Tim much lately but I think his political trajectory is an interesting case study. I shot that clip with him shortly after he was doing livestream coverage of OWS. Then for a while it seemed like people online were accusing him of being a fascist because he started to criticize the new American radlib dogmas. Then I think he kind of did actually turn a bit right wing. Or that's what it looked like to me. I don't know. I'm not a Tim Pool historian. Seemed like a nice enough guy to me when I met him briefly twelve years ago.
For what it's worth I think he was right to criticize the cancellatory, identitarian turn that the American lefty milieus were taking in the middle 2010s, even if he didn't put things in quite those terms. For me it's been very disappointing to watch so many people turn away from building solidarity and challenging powerful institutions and towards sowing pointless divisions, socially abusing and persecuting various scapegoats, decimating communities that I used to like, and stumbling their way into more or less "raging for the machine." From where I'm sitting, it looks like a softened up, HR'ified version of a deeply dysfunctional, stifling, distrustful way of relating that was in large part incubated in American lefty communities has now been embraced by almost every established culturally left-of-center institution. I think that's been weakening social bonds, stealing a great deal of hope and joy, and empowering some strange new right wing forces. All of this works swimmingly as a corporate divide-and-conquer strategy.
Plus we're all so politically balkanized and demoralized now here in the states. It's to the point that people often hardly understand one another anymore, if they even bother expressing ideas about a collective future they might hope to play a part in realizing at all. Maybe the way this movie is getting a little bit popular again will help with that.
Only 1.6k views and merely 16 comments?! How is this possible? Hmmmmm.... manipulation, perhaps?

Jokes don't translate well in the form of a person on an international stage, but given that he knows he isn't a going to achieve election, it's amusing to see how he was able to express philosophy and the arts withing and around the political system.

McMillan for pres, Vermin for Vice pres.
I really wonder what he'd look like had he won the race for Mayor of Baltimore. I don't think he'd have changed much had he gained political success, but congress would be a hell of a lot funnier with a dude with a boot on his head as Speaker of the House.

Is that Slavoc Zizek clip supposed to be satire? One guy says "the true dreamers are those who think", and then a crowd mindlessly repeats what he says. It's like that Simpsons episode about the (na na na na) Leader.
I don't remember that particular Simpsons episode but this was known as "the human microphone." In the context of Occupy Wall Street it arose out of New York City forbidding the use of un-permitted megaphones (we see Vermin debating with himself over whether or not he should bring his megaphone along in NYC later in the film), and it actually did work to allow big crowds of people to hear the words of one person who was given the floor. I do remember people occasionally doing this when it wasn't really necessary, though, which seemed a bit corny.
In fact there are some people who've criticized Occupy Wall Street as having been too leaderless, and I'm at least in part inclined to agree with them. When you have basically no system of leadership whatsoever in a movement, too much room opens up for unscrupulous people with cluster b traits to move in and exercise social power for their own ends.
My first significant experiences with manipulative identitarian opportunist types were pretty much all at OWS affiliated events, and in my view these sorts of people have done immense damage in society in recent years. Solidarity among the general population has taken a huge hit as a result of their antics, they've fueled a great deal of confused resentment that's given rise to some pretty unsavory reactionary forces, the cancel culture they embraced has done a great deal of social and psychic damage, and their whole shtick has now been sanded down into DEI, which functions largely as a very effective corporate divide-and-conquer mechanism.
