You obviously don’t since these are garbage. They were even priced cheaply compared to other handsets because they knew globalstar was garbage. It rarely works and calls always drop, when your just in case moment happens you’re screwed 😂
Don’t use Globalstar. Their phones are obsolete and the service is terrible. Your lucky to get 3 minutes of connection and if there are any clouds you likely will not connect. I had them for two years and was glad I switched to Garmin Inreach as a SAT emergency device.
New apple phones have satellite communication built in for use in case of emergencies in areas cell coverage isn’t available. They use Globalstar as the provider, too.
There's been some discussion about SpaceX and T-Mobile possibly working to bring satellite connectivity to smartphones but there are some hurdles to overcome. Apple's iPhone 14 SOS feature which uses existing Globalstar infrastructure requires line of sight with the sky and you have to hold it in a certain way or else your connection will drop
I just won two of these in a pelican cases for like 90 bucks each, what are they used for and why are the prescription rates so high? I appreciate any info you can give me.
What Service provider do you use? I ve a Globalstar Telit Sat 550. Some one say I can use it with inmarsat sim cards other s say with vodafone or t mobile. Im from Germany
Hello, I would like to know if a phone like this or similar can be used with just a normal sim like that of a current cell phone. If anyone knew it would make me very happy, I've always liked the model and thought I'd get one
Wow... I've had a set of those for years. Just in case now , but I've used them off grid for several years. Dependable old Sat tech.

3 min can more than save your life.
lol negative
@@Zaitouddahiafter you wait 10 minutes for a service window. There’s a reason this hasn’t been relevant since 2012.
This video was incredible
I’m glad to hear that.
This reminds me of the mobile phones in the late 1990s early 2000s! Is there a satellite version of a smartphone available these days?

Thuraya X5-Touch is a satellite smartphone, but I don't think it has USA coverage yet. You'd have to check.

They use satellite communication to make and receive phone calls. That’s why they’re expensive to use.
Cool video
Glad you enjoyed.

No. I think the only type of service it could do would be an old 2G one….
@@NM_Tech sad, thanks anyway
@@NM_Techolder, global star says the phone uses AMPS. AMPS is 1G. You gotta pick 1G or satellite.
Do you need a subscription for service or does it just come ready to go?
You need a plan from Globalstar
@NM_Tech it's extreamly expensive.
Spot x is the route I like the most so far.
