  • Do you remember Jungle Run on CITV? Did you ever think you could get the golden monkey? Were you also terrified of Sid and Elvis? Here are my thoughts

Jungle Run was an early 2000s TV show on CBBC. The kid's game show was similar to Legends of the Hidden Temple and involved kid's running around a jungle collecting monke statues to get prizes from the temple of the jungle king challenge at the very end of the episode. I just think it was really wild and probably one of the best shows around at the time. In this video I take a departure from Drake and Josh and Fred on iCarly to talk about another British nostalgia, kid's show, going over all the highlights and funny moments.

So happy you covered Jungle Run, this was a favourite show of mine and I still think it holds up. Can't believe it was filmed in Nottingham, that's so close to where I lived! Shame you didn't get to talk about the Pyramid Maze. That was the coolest and scariest one for me, seeing someone get trapped in there and have their teammates decide whether or not to sacrifice statues to let their friend out or leave them trapped to keep the time for the temple. The creepy music for that challenge didn't help.
One moment that really stuck with me was when the series first started. The prize idols in the Temple of the Jungle King didn't originally just represent the prizes, they actually had the prizes in a compartment in the base of the statue (they also used to collect bananas rather than statues for the time). I remember one group managed to get all four but dropped the base of the silver monkey so that prize was just lost in the temple forever, no way to get it.

Monkey Traps and the Spinning Machine thing in lost cave are two of the cruellest challenges because it's easy to have two members trapped. In the machine in lost cave you actually have to gamble your monkey statues to win more. I don't think thats very child friendly haha.
Going back to the money traps I remember a team figured out how the traps operated so they would balance themselves so the doors wouldnt lock. The guide didn't say anything as it wasnt violating the rules and they won a good amount of monkey statues from what i remember.

I'm so sad you didn't mention the Tomb challenge, where the kids had to go around reflecting lasers and trying to pull statues out of a mummified corpses hand without waking it up, that shit fucking terrified me as a kid.

This is pretty much a quiet successor of The Crystal Maze in some respect, and also to know from the youtube comments it was filmed in an old RAF hangar in Nottingham as I live close to Nottingham, its nice to know!

I’ve just binged a bunch of your videos on 2000s British kids shows and they’ve given me so much good nostalgia! I always really wanted to go on Jungle run, the challenges always looked so fun. I also always had a weird fascination with the little monkey statues they had to collect, for some reason I always wanted to hold one and see what they felt like lol

Jungle Run along with Fun House, Pump IT UP, Raven and Bamzooki were my favourite childhood game shows, not only did R.A.F Newton use to film Jungle Run it also filmed Robot Wars, the last two series of the classic era which were 6 and 7 along with it’s spinoff Extreme 2.

You did not talk about the biggest scam in the later series "The Cabinet of Chance" it was basically code for this team is doing too well let's that some statues off them. 2 players got locked to a giant wheel while the third had to put a statue they had won already into the wheel. They would then try and navigate the statue through the good hole. If they did this the statue was doubled and they could choose to play again or leave. However it was really hard to win and the kids could only leave after winning a statue. If they failed in the 2 minutes the 2 locked kids would have to be bought out losing more statues

One thing I remember from my childhood was splatalot. Basically, take total wipeout and… well that’s it but I loved that show so god damned much as a kid, and I’m pretty sure it’s all on youtube, though it could’ve been deleted

Jungle Run was one of those shows that I would always make time for! It probably was why I ended up loving re-runs of Crystal Maze so much. Do you think you could do a video about CBBC's escape from Scorpion Island? I remember it being so intense as a child, and the challenges always looked fun, probably a big regret of mine for never applying for it!!

If anyone has good quality copies of this show (yes I'm aware they are up on youtube but the clear ones have lines on which are too distracting for me), then pleeeeease give em here, I would be the most grateful gal in the universe!!!

I've forever debated which is better, Raven or Jungle Run as I grew up an avid watcher of both. I've come to the conclusion they both win on different basis. Raven has a much better fantasy world and story line, with it being a mystical quest and the enemy in Nevar. Jungle run however wins on it's gameshow format and the sense of adventure you get visiting each location. Thats my opinion anyway.

Having watched Power Rangers growing up, Sid and Elvis were nothing compared to half those rubber-suited monsters. They served their purpose, at worst they just failed at being funny...
though in hindsight, it is kinda questionable that they do have those adults actively assaulting the kids with comedy objects. The later Splatalot shares that trait.
Personally I found it cool when some kids would loophole the challenge just by doing it another way, usually one that makes them seem more badass like the shown parkouring.

I did enjoy this show but even as a kid the prizes kinda was meh. i mean all that effort and all they got was a stuffed monkey. like there was another show on citv called eliminator witch was basicly just the chase but for kids and sure the set didnt look as cool as jungle run and in all honesty wasnt as good a show to watch they atleast had good prizes like a hollyday up for grabs. and that just invovled answering questions and takeing steps forward.
