The heaters were crap in the Hymac.they bring back memories of freezing winters.

Sadly ergonomics and operator comforts were not top of the list in the days when these machines were made; yes as a kid I got to operate some Hymac machines in a local scrap yard, there was no front windscreens in many of these machines as they got broken and were not replaced making them even colder in winter.

i noted Alistair asked what engine they were all fitted with 6 cylinder ford industrial. The only time they altered was when the excavator was a Hymac Demag and these were fitted with a 10 cylinder cummings

Robert the smaller 580 series machines were fitted with Ford or Perkins 6 cylinder engines but the 880 and later 880C machines were fitted with Cummins V8 185 engines or Volvo engines; I believe that all machines of this type exported to Scandinavia were fitted with Volvo engines.

@@1961Jezza All the ones in UK were only fitted with small engines i like driving the Hymac Demag great piece of equipment the 10 cylinder Cummings was a beast to handle. I used it for rock breaking . I looked at different sites and i see the same machine with a different engine time and again

No the engine is a Cummins V8 185 it was the 580 series and other models that were Ford or Perkins powered.
