I think this has one of the best horror chase scenes to date . Sarah Michelle’s gellar scene from the police car , to the shop, to the back alley trying to escape the fisherman .
Sarah Michelle Gellar chase scene forever legendary in the horror genre.
This is actually up there as one of my favourite slashers. I still prefer Scream a lot more but I actually love the characters in this, particular Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, there’s a lot more depth to her character compared to the other “best friend” characters in slashers. Also that chase scene is scary as hell! Unfortunate you didn’t love it as much but really enjoyed this review.
There was always something missing for me. The mood and atmosphere was always there though.
From what I know Williamson wrote the script before Scream.
And the success of Scream green lighted it's production.
I like that it doesnt try to be selfaware and subversive.
It is a simple and classic slasher story, executed in a very decent way.
I think you're right about the Kevin Williamson script being finished before Scream. I'm sure I read that somewhere before.
I just purchased this so my daughter could see it. I read this book by Lois Duncan when I was a teen. I didn't think the acting was horrible, but I've always had a soft spot for Jennifer Love Hewitt. I think it's an entertaining movie. Thanks for the review 😊
Is the book similar to the movie, like a slasher, or did they make a lot changes?
@@jbnj11 The book is nothing like the movie. It's more of a psychological thriller as apposed to a slasher. There's no fisherman with a hook. The only things the book and movie have in common are the names of the four main characters, the fact that they hit someone with their car and cover it up, and one of the characters getting a note saying "I know what you did last summer." It's best to think of the movie as a complete reimagining of the book instead of a adaptation.
Great vid as always. I loved this movie as a 15 year old when it came out so it’s hard for me to spot its problems since I’m watching it through rose tinted glasses, I mean I know the acting is no scream lol.
I always had a soft spot for it, due to my rose tinted glasses too. But I always try and give the cons. Overall a good slasher.
Solid and fair review brother. I’m glad you mentioned Helen’s Chase, because I got raped across the coals for not including that in my chase video haha. It truly is one of the greatest slasher chase scenes ever. One thing I did not care for too much was Anne Heche in this movie. Didn’t find that interesting at all. And I might actually prefer the sequel. Glad we released reviews for movies of this franchise on the same day.
Thanks man. I'm reluctant to watch your I Still Know review until I've reviewed that one. Hopefully get that done by next week. Yeah the chase scene was excellent. Anne Heche is a great actress and my point about fleshing the characters out would be a prime example of her character. She was totally underutilised.
Classic. Scared the shit out of me as a kid
Oh and I’m interested to what you think of cherry falls if you find the time to review the new blu ray release of it. Great review of I know. Love this channel
Cherry Falls review is done. It will be uploaded sometime next week!
I think this is due a rewatch with me. I absolutely loved it when it came out but I have not watched it since the late 90s. I still remember it quite well though.
Classic movie for it’s time lol
This looked awesome in 4k and sounded amazing and Atmos
Right around that Scream era , I remember that time very well . This movie was pretty good , not bad at all. I would give it a 6 out of 10. Out of the mid to late 90's horror era films which includes H 20, I would have to say Scream was the best by far.
I'm watching it tonight on the 4th of July in 4k with Dolby Atmos and a kick ass and I watch the interview with the Scottish director from your neck of the woods
I also watched it last night. 😍
Not watched the original in years ..at the time I thought it was good .. we had been starved of slasher movies for years until scream come along .. I always put Urban legend ahead of I know what you did last summer back then .. il have to dig both out and see what I think now .. nice one Barry you’ve given me something to do on a damp July evening
Happy 8th of July!
great review mate
its been a good while since I watch movie and its not a bad movie but not great 6/10 for me
I think both were really good, however I seemed to prefer the characters in this film. Also I feel the acting was good .
Wonder was this a coincidence we have a character name Helen a blonde who is pursued by a guy with a hook 5 years before in Candyman we have a character a blonde name Helen who is pursued by Candyman who uses a hook to kill his victim 🤔
Good catch!
@@WolfmansGotNards Thanks just thought of that and both died in their respective movies.
Was not bad, but not a patch on Urban Legend!
I remember renting this on video and loving it. Not as good as scream but still a solid slasher movie. I still know is good too but the third one was terrible.
I love this movie. I’ve just previously bought I still ye I know it wasn’t the best but I Havnt seen it for 20years. I can remember at the time seeing it on Barry Norman film review and it showed the Helen Chase seen I was like wow can’t wait for this after the back of scream. Personally I think this is one of the better slashers, this and dare I say.......cherry falls.
I've filmed my Cherry Falls review. So look out for that next week at some point!
Wolfman's Got Nards excellent! 👍🏻looking forward to it
I remember this movie coming out haha
It's not as good as Scream and there is room for improvement but I like it!
