- Tool reviews are not my forte but I was asked a lot of questions about this light when I posted it up on my Facebook page. I am not much for typing so I thought this might be easier. I believe I show this light in an upcoming vid at some point but wanted to get on this before I forgot.
Check out the lights here in the SMA "A-store" if you are considering getting your own:
astore.amazon.c...
Check out Astro: www.astrotools....
If an SMA Video has helped you out please consider giving using the "support" link on our RUclips home page. The videos take real time to create and pull us away from real work that pays our bills.
THANKS!

Every good mechanic needs to have 2 lights- one for usin' and one for throwin'
Lol, funny you say that. I have a big, heavy plastic coated in rubber for just such occasion. I feel guilty when I throw or drop my $150.00 rechargeable Stinger.
I love Mrs. O she's so funny when she comes into the shop. You two are so awesome!!!!
agreed
I agree also . Great people . :)
Congratulations on winning the wife lottery, Eric. She always manages to add an amusing touch to these videos, lol. You guys make a great team. Give her a raise! Time for me to go order a red light saber to add to my collection since my current light is weaksauce.
ice44567 That woman is always smiling! I too won the wife lottery and I'm happy for Eric, great guy.
He deserves it.
This is the funnest and most lighthearted video you've posted. I had to laugh every time you threw the red led light against that wall. You and the Mrs. are truly meant to be together.
Watching Mrs O's face after asking her if she ever watches tool reviews is priceless
Think you did fine. You shared your opinion of the good and the bad, with no sugar coating. Always enjoy the Mr. and Mrs. O banter...
Mrs. O adds real CLASS to your review!
Great to see ya throwing some light on the situation.Happy times to one and all !!
After watching the entire video, I wasn’t interested in lights. But “pulling the veins out of your arms” cracked me up. Your sense of humor is just what I needed after coming home from a stressful day. And the lady near the end, was so nice, her smile and comments, just added to the excellent video, and thank you both.
This was the first video I ever saw of yours, just come back to watch it again.
I remember the banter was what made me come back. Been watching ever since.
👍Good stuff👍 Thx Eric. I have very Low vision (retinal damage) & a bright light is a must for most everything I do. After your review I sent the ASTRO info to my wife. Today , she surprised me with the 65SL for my 53 Bday. TOTALLY SHOCKED as I had forgotten about it. Let me just say this light is SUPER bright! Love it! Wish I’d had it the other day when replacing the VVT & cam sensor on her old TrailBlazer!
I can’t say enough good things about it’s brightness & what seems like GREAT build quality. SUPER NICE!
Thanks again, I see much better👍✊✌️🇺🇸
I just purchased one of those excellent lights over here in the UK , the astro ones are really expensive over here but Durite make the exact same light for £40 off amazon , i just received it this morning , Im dead chuffed with it now i have a SMA light , awesome !!!
Because of you Eric, I have a led light now. I've used regular flashlights. Mine is folding and dimmable too. Its great
Vanessa O needs her own channel on how to deal with a celebrity husband. Great video Eric
One of the best tool reviews I have ever seen, just please don't make a habit of them.I don't care to do tool reviews on my channel either, I call them first impression vids.
Thank you Eric for that video. The lights are nice too. But seeing you and Mrs. O interact warms my heart. A lot of love there.
Thanks, Eric. I had already freeze-framed earlier videos to find the manufacturer of the light (40SL) and bought a two pack, one for me and one for my son. Months later, just today, see this video! Agreed, it’s a great light and thanks for all you do!
its been one of those days. I really enjoyed you throwing the light against the wall.I feel better now
Hey Eric, My 40 arrived yesterday. Wow what a light. My wife even thinks it is cool. Thanks again and please keep the new videos coming our way.
Have to say this was alot better than the commercialized reviews alot of the other channels do,and didnt come across as fake and scripted....
My dad saw this on your channel and sent me a brand new one. It is ridiculously bright and I yet to have to recharge it. The great magnet holds it well so you can angle that base to direct light to work area. 👍👍
Quite possibly the best tool review ever! I think that moment when you first chucked the tool across the shop will be going on my list of "Best Automotive Moments." :D
this needs an oscar for the best tool throw
i likes the review Mrs. O gave. "its a light, its makes light, buy it". It was something like that. HAHA
Man i really love my 40SL. Best light i have ever owned. Don't know how i lived without it before now. I wouldn't have known about it if not for this video. Mine came with a hook on it. I guess they made the change after seeing your video. Thanks for that.
I bought an Astro 40SL a year or so back... LOVE IT.... It's my go to light...
I like how u and Mrs O interact. I think your well rounded when it comes to work and family, after all its the real deal. I can say for sure NONE of your videos have been a disappointment.
Actual REAL product reviews. GREAT! Good stuff. Really enjoy the channel.
One of the best non tool reviews I've seen in a long time :)
Best video yet. Mrs. O is much easier on the eyes.
Astro makes some good stuff. Glad to see them in your videos, so I see them in action. Also, I think it's pretty awesome you get to work with your family around you every day. Working at a dealership it's like I only see my family on the weekends. Lol
I just about died the first time you tossed that light, greatest thing ever
I've been a fan of Astro Glide for years. I didn't realize they made such a wide array of products.
Slightly different company I am afraid haha
I need a plug in. Half way through a job, it always dies. Love the magnet but no chargers for me!! And always a treat seein mama in the vids giving you grief.. haha ... Go mama goooo ! Yeay!!! Mama!!!!
Enjoy SMA channel a lot. Appreciate the light tool evaluation. Know what my brother is getting for his next birthday/Christmas. You have a great voice IMHO and sound like a confident, self-assured mechanical. Plus your funny.
My jaw was slack and agape, as you threw that thing against the wall, for the third time!!! It's indestructible!!! Never ran over one with a truck, but have dropped AND DESTROYED, more than a few, from Jack stand height, or from off of a fender.
Working on my own truck last night with my new Astra tools when I found myself saying to myself “Give her the full beans” when I had troubles getting a bolt off.
You lucky dude. A wife you love. I have had the same woman for 40 years. I still love her dearly.
You both seem like really nice people... Thanks for the great tool review, and all the great repair tutorials....
bought the 40sl today. frickin awesome light. I am a pro wrench and my last light was a stream light knucklehead, which is a damn fine light imho. this light is a generation ahead. tough, bright, small, cheap, there is just no reason not to like it.
Napa's blue fuel lights are really good as far as durability goes. The magnets are only so so but I've run them over and had them still work. Good light for $35, and you can throw it around and not really worry about it.
Now I know why there are no hooks...
Just one little Light Sabre fight and someone could loose an eye.
Keep the vids coming, love them...
Eric, I love to buy tools! When people tell me about their new tool that works great I am all ears eyes and hands on. Please, by all means, do tool reviews when you' re ready, especially with your Beautiful charming wife! She really adds to the tool reviews! I wish you had a show on prime time USA.
How about more of the lovely "Mrs. O" ? Your definitely "Overchicked" Buddy!
I definitely value your opinion on tools man, great video. You and your old lady bantering was funny too!
i love my 40sl. bought it because of your videos a couple of weeks ago. thanks eric.
Good review and, nice of Mrs. O to pretty up the video.
lovin Mrs O's butting in, and pretty much owning the end part of your video :) ,,,, you got an awesome gal there :)
+KillswitchBB -- Perfect Timing.
I ended up picking up the 40dsl, Love the light has nice weight very bright and the magnet is very strong. Thanks for this review
Eric, I have a good story and will also be a tool review of my own for the same light you have the Astro 40SL. (not sponsor lol) I had just got done watching this video of your tool review. I went out to get in my 2012 Chevy1500 and found the front left tire was flat. lucky I was home. so I went to put the spare on. You know how the spare tire winches can be on these trucks. but I was lucky and the only problem I had was trying to get the rod on the square peg to lower the tire down. Being I couldn't see I got my Astro 40SL light. I love that thing it is so bright. and I can confirm that the magnet on the bottom is very strong. So I took my Astro light under the truck and put it on the tail pipe so I could see. I got the tire down and got the spare on, being in a hurry and not thinking I forgot my light under the truck on the tail pipe. And yes I drove away with it there. I drove to town 5 miles one way and back another 5 miles. So 10 miles round trip going over rough roads and RR tracks. When I got home I walk into the shop and it hit me I left my light under the truck. I figured it was gone being how far I drove and what all I had to go over. So I got under the truck to look and damn it was still there with the only thing holding it was the magnet on the tail pipe and the light was shining bright the whole time. So I have to say this is one hell of a light. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.
I have the 40sl.
The thing rocks. I will buy again/more.
I like the lights I need on, love to see Mrs. O she has the most beautiful hair.
Man this Astro tool company has there act together. I ordered the 1822 impact and the mini impacting ratchet I love it great tools. Those lights look nice as well.
Just ordered a 40sl on Amazon , can't wait .
Good review ! If u make sure it is on before u throw it you can find it easier 😉
Chucking an ASTRO - now that's funny.......Mrs. O busting your chops: PRICELESS!!!
I think alot of people on here have a little crush on Mrs O lol it's hard not to, such a nice soul.
Recommend all future tool reviews ensure the "throw at the wall test" to test durability. Was hilarious.
Both you and Mrs. O have cool attitudes. I tried to order the 40SL thru your SMA Amazon store and they don't ship to Hawaii. Same for the Astro digital tire filler/gauge. I ordered from JB Tools and they ship to Hawaii.
I saw that ETCG did a review on this too, and I HAD to come back here just for the laugh factor... I kept saying, "Ok ETCG, THROW IT!" He didn't...
2:38 is the best part of this video. That was quite a throw. Oh and then... "Where'd it go?" Hahahaha!
Thanks for the entertainment, Eric!
+Pete Gaytan III Haha thanks Pete
I bought that 40SL Live that light and more recently bought a rechargeable magnetic Mac too light. My to fav!
I saw the Amazon price was a little to rich for me so i put it on my wish list. Couple days later I'm walking through Home Depot and they had a similar looking device. It was $20 so I bought it. I think I found out why there was a $60 vs a $20 price tag. Astro has 12 LEDS and HD has only 6. But the output lums are about the same @240. I have used mine a few times now and love it. It has a good magnet on it also. I almost like it better than my big 90degree pistol type flashlight. Thanks for making the review and bringing these lights to my attention. ........I would prob like the 400 lum one even more!
THANK YOU . MRS O YOU HAS HELP ME TO CHOOSE
thx again for your video on the ford taurus running lean and shooting the breeze videos, although that wasn't my problem,it applied to my car in that i needed to remove the same parts to get to the dpfe to check the lines and replace the egr for a po401 code, insuffiecient flow condition, nice review on the tools btw, keep up the great work.
Just got one! It's THE go-to light now.
Love your tool reviews and Mrs O is awsum
Coincidentally, oddly, I was watching a video of yours just last night (fluid undercoating maybe?) and actually froze the frame so I could read the manufacturer of your light (ASTRO) and spent several minutes searching around for it. AND there in the right frame just now is your 'tool review'! That was awesome .. and fun .. and nice to meet your better half while we're at it. Continued success (PS I know you produced this in 2016 but I just happened upon it this evening. Hey! I see your Erich the Car Guy Meet-Up video next in the right panel. Going there now. PS Just fixed my horn on my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan with your help (and Eric's as it turns out).
i really like the fact it takes micro usb. you can have it charging from a car charger no problem like on your way between jobs your charging. thats a great feature think if you lose the charger just go to 7/11 4$ buys a new charger awesome
I stuck mine to a lower control arm and forgot about it, turned the wheel, no more light. It broke but still works! I ordered 4 more. 2 for work, 2 for stupid
I didn’t expect to see a Jedi throwing light saber around on an SMA video.
I looked at the light right toward the end of this video and forgot everything about it. LOL Ended up with the 37SL since it has the 180 degree head on it. Works really nice with the tail end 20 lb magnet !! Would be nice if the battery/handle was twice the size for an all day charge vs. 3 to 4 hours. May end up with the 65SL soon or a bunch of the 40SL China versions. They'd make great gifts for Shade Tree mechanics etc. Thanks for telling about Astro, I never heard of them until this year 2019.
Good video! Added sunshine to an otherwise dull day. Great team as well!
I got the astro 40 because Eric uses them. It is a Awesome flashlight!!!!!
I love Mrs. O's attitude ....'c'mon, it's bright its a light review over'.... Does she have a sister?
That's because she's a small-town girl! Where girls are still girls!
You two are going to end up with your own TV show. Couple of natural comedians. Instead of " I love Lucy" your show will be called "I Love Mrs. O."
Many thanks for the light recommendation. Gonna hit mama up for the 40 SL for Christmas! Love your vids, bro. Keep up the good work
how does miss o always look so good your lucky man
you two are the chip and Joanna gaines of auto repair keep upp the good work
Chip married out of his league like Eric O. did.
Anyone in the UK who wants one, these are sold under the Sealey brand.
Ok ok you sold me on it went and picked up a 40sl the other day. At 410 limes its bright. But I think the best part is it slim and great under the dash and tight ares. Tool review #2
You convinced me, just bought the 40SL from Amazon.
I never thought i would see the day when you threw a tool Eric! I could never have a repair channel. For a start I'm not a professional. Secondly it would just be an endless litany of cursing and tool throwing...
Nice lights. I'm so cheap i actually have fashioned some of my own out of led ribbons, led piranha boards and bits of plywood. Some use 12v some use 5v for USB because i have plenty of USB power packs or USB power supplies. I use scavenged neodymium magnets from harddrives screwed or glued to them to hold them in place.
No lie about Realtoolreviews !!! I've spent several hundred dollars based on his reviews and have yet to be let down!
the wife is a great part of the show, she has an almost cliche wife tone. (whats this idiot doing now...) great channel guy
your voice is way cooler than the real tool review guy
LED-Lightsaber fight at SMA...my life is complete now. LOL
I too have the 40SL Awesome light. Skipped over the Bayco light. Friend has the bayco. Battery problems IE: won't stay charged, won't last long etc. He saw mine and bought one that day. I wish there was some dial detents. The home made hook's eric made are cool. Got to have hooks. :)
Love it when mrs o pops up she is such a fine lady and hanna to.
I was just looking for a good shop light too. Nothing like like shopping from Germany (on vacation).
wow the prize is good the crazy bright one with the cell phone charger port is like 50 bucks on Amazon sweet deal.
lol, you're awesome, sir. You never fail to entertain. Look forward to more videos!
Great review Mr.O!!!
That throwing feature is high on my list of "must have" features. Can't do that with the old school incandescent drop lights (aptly named) and THEY have a hook. I'm thinking of one of those new LED replacement bulbs instead of the glass incandescent carpet burners...
The Saber line has been good lights so far for me. I try not to spend too much on magnetic lights because they often take a ride far, far away with someone's vehicle. That 40SL is nice though.
More of Mrs. O. Please
Mine should be here any day. Got me the 450 lumens. Im used to headlights. Cant wait to see how this one works.
I like the 40sl but like most LED lighting not friendly with wire colours (Canadian eh!), Milwaukee has one of the hand held LED lights with two integrated metal hooks, replaceable lens and the LEDS don't white out your work area which is a must for wiring.
+Louie Moscatel That's interesting you say that. I bought one of those Milwaukees to try it out and that was exactly what I didn't like... how yellow it was. I like the more white natural light ones. Also didn't like that they wanted $80 for it and it did't even come with a battery. It puts out about half the lumens of the Astro 40SL so it's not all that bright either. I do like the size and the hooks though. Needs a magnet too.
I see the 12SL has a hook available separately now! Good work lol!
fuzzy wuzzy please stop following me around in RUclips comments, how many times to I have to tell you it's over between us!! Find another man honey, because I've moved on!
First tool review that cracks me up!!!!! Cheers mate!
they must make our light for Matco but we had them bump the lumens from 410 500 again real bright. i have sold a lot of them already and all my guys love them all part are field replaceable and inexpensive
