- The gorgeous ladies of En Vogue sings this song flawlessly. This is a response to Destiny's Child singing the national anthem better than En Vogue, without there being a En Vogue video to compare too. LOL... Enjoy (This is not an attack against Destiny's Child. I love them as well.)

charles turner -- there were quite a few people that didnt like it at all. Some said it wasn't "American" or a disgrace to the original score. Google it. I was shocked myself. My girls did it though!! BEAUTIFULLY!!!

This lil' two minute video pretty much shows why En Vogue was so amazing. They've switched parts so many times and never once lost the blending in the harmony. Each woman had their time to shine in the lead and then came together to create the awesome harmony they're known for. Easily my favorite vocal performance from them!

The vocals of the original members are unmatched still to this day

Damn Dawn's soprano on the "land of the free" run was just sooooo silky smooth and powerful. Beautiful voices and beautiful vocal run!!! I love them so much,
Terry at the end Terry Ellis hit that high pitch perfectly all four were amazing
Naw, listen again, She was actually a little sharp which threw off the harmony a little and Max maybe faded away too soon with that vibrato at the end as well.

I Always Thought Maxine Had The Best Voice! She Was Super UNDERRATED Vocally!!
Terry is such a great, natural singer, that it doesn't even look like she's singing. Like, the sound that comes out of her mouth, her falsetto or her strong belt register, seems fake because she doesn't strain AT ALL. Like at 1:45 with that top note until the end - it seems fake, but it's not. She is AMAZING.

I use to argue with people on YT who acted like En Vogue's harmonies were lacking in Dawn's absence. I loved Dawn's soulful, powerful vocals from day one but Cindy and Terry were my favorite so I didn't want to hear any of that but over the past few years I've been catching their LIVE act and listening to them on YT and Dawn's shit is stellar. I ain't even gon' front.

That Dawn is flawless when it comes to those soprano notes. She is hitting all high all high notes, but everyone always thinks it's Terry.
Probably because Terry usually does them, especially from "the land of the free" and "brave". If you look at them singing this here at some boxing match, Terry's mic was lower so you could tell she sang the higher notes.
Keep telling people that. Terry and Dawn have the highest ranges but Dawn can damn near whistle.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard better vocal harmonies than this group, especially at 1:30.
I’ve only heard just perfect harmonies in instrument ensembles.
Another reason why i Love EN VOGUE. Like i said before, the BEST BEFORE & AFTER THEM. Nobody can harmonize like En Vogue..they could all switch it up & sing each others' note at the drop of a dime. Only a good ear and true En Vogue fan knows what I'm talkin about!

Dawn is the second from the left, Cindy is farthest right. As far as the highest sopranos, on "the land of the free", Dawn has the highest part, and on the last word "brave", Terry (farthest left) has the highest part.
I hope my ear has gotten better. Lol. On "land of the free", on "free", Terry is the top actually, so she and Dawn did a quick switch there. Nice!

Yes it was! Johnny Gill was there and they did a quick rendition of "Happy Birthday", while Maxine was screaming. I remember that!!
OMG!!!! That was AMAZING! Of course I already knew EV's version trampled DC's version (which I love as well)...but this was mind boggling! It was perfection from top to bottom, beginning to end, and everywhere else in between! WOW!!!!

hey love your screen name by the way! crap! i so wish i was in the NYC for the show last nite. how was it?...i live in Dallas and i got the chance to see them this past November 7th at the Nokia Theatre and they gave a MOST EXCELLENT performance. i CANNOT wait for their new music and upcoming tour for it. i'm all up and excited right now( 6:51 am CST) waiting to see them on THE VIEW today, which doesn't come on here until 10AM!

You're right it is not flat. I think she actually overshoots the note so it must be a little sharp. The vibrato helps balance the note IMO
Gonna be a little critical here and say Terri was a little sharp for her note at the very end which threw the harmony off a tad bit...other than that, we all know they are great.

spetacular. That is one of the hardest songs to sing (don't know what Frances scott key or John stafford smith was thinking when he wrote it) and they do it beautifully.
