  • The 2023 Canadian Caucus was recently held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Unlike the US, where the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) and its signatory companies negotiate a national contract, each province in Canada has its own contract. The caucus brings together IUEC leadership from across the provinces to discuss topics that affect the Canadian elevator industry nationwide.
Business Managers and Representatives, IUEC Regional Directors, and IUEC National Organizers were in attendance, along with representatives from IUEC Safety, Codes and Standards, the Canadian Elevator Industry Educational Program (CEIEP), the Elevator Industry Work Preservation Fund (EIWPF), the Canadian Market Relief Fund (CMRF), and the Canadian Pension and Welfare Funds.
“I learn something every year at the caucus. There's always something new - my union brothers and sisters are a wealth of knowledge,” said Nathan Webber, Business Manager and Secretary Treasurer for IUEC Locals 125 (Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick) and 125A (St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador).
“Currently, the work in Canada is tremendous,” said National Organizer Blair MacMillan. “From coast to coast, all provinces are very busy. All the major cities have got a lot of work on the books.”
