I am looking at this radio as a companion to my FTM 400. The software interface looks very similar. Have you tried to use the SD card from the FTM 400 with the FT3D?
How's the audio output? I have been very disappointed in the speaker on my ft2d. It's simply too quite and not warm enough to project it's audio. Speakermics on our commercial Kenwood gear have FAR louder and clearer speakers, even my baofeng radios kick the crap out of my ft1d and ft2d speakers.
Enjoyed your video, radio is beautiful just wondered if in a few weeks you could tell us how the bright screen affects the battery life, battery on the Ft2 is already short enough
Yaesu has yet to let me down. That radio looks like something that would be at home in my ham shack. Here’s hoping that I can put it in the budget this fall before my CFO attempts to confiscate my credit cards! 😉
Love my Kershaw. Not quite the beast as yours. How about putting a link to that in the description? I was looking at the FT3D announcement and been interested since then. The interface looks a lot like my FTM-400XDR. I'd love to get a sense of the battery life. My Kenwood TH-D74A battery is abysmal.
Just bought the FT3, have the FT2 as well. Like the color display a lot - Some of the features like Recording a QSO, is not new to me, have a D74A. What I am a bit put off by is the slightly smaller size of the radio, and the LCD display, Yeah a small decrease can be noticeable on a compact area. Hopefully as some time passes I'll get used to it. APRS works as it should, wish they had not chosen to use a red compass rose - It is not that to visible at a glance, yellow may have been a better way to go?? Otherwise a good design. Build quality i think might be slightly lower IMO, then the FT2, but that is just my opinion. I am interested in playing with the bluetooth , should be nice to have hands free PTT. I have tried to pair the radio successfully with a pair of Sony Bluetooth headphones with luck. Audio connection sounds better then Yaesu haadset, but i am not sure if you can use VOX without the Yaesu dongle, i suspect not.
Not impressed with the BT feature, because you have to touch the earpiece each time you want to key the mike and then touch it again when you're done transmitting. If you use the VOX feature and there is a lot of noise around you, the radio will stay in transmit mode. N3EDO.
@@williambouchard4480 I would expect that if there was a lot of noise around you, if the vox was in operation - Sounds like the gain control on the radio is not very effective, and probably has poor ani-vox - unfortunate - If they had the quality of this, like they do in an HF radio, the problem most likely would not exist.
The problem with adding power to handhelds is the potential of RF burns and radiation. The same reason I don't put the cell phone up to my ear. xxx milliwatts has caused brain tumors what do you think 10 or 15 watts would do?

Yaesu went through the trouble of programming your call sign in but didn’t send a fully charged battery? Don’t get me wrong my shack and mobile are covered in Yaesu but I had to laugh.
I purchased an FT3DR recently, and I'm not very impressed. it has a tiny speaker that cuts off all but the highest frequencies. Even YL hams don't sound natural. Selecting a YSF group on the radio is awkward at best. With more than 750 groups, using the ALL feature to scroll through groups 20 at a time is useless. Typing a group name with the multi-letter keys is a pain. the RT-Systems software programs only the channels. There's no provision for programming any of the radio's other settings or digital groups. I purchased an AnyTone AT-D878 about the same time for DMR, and I'm much more impressed with it than the FT3DR.
I don’t mind it at all. Doesn’t compare with the 878 or the D74 but it’s an improvement over the FT2 for sure. The issue with the WiresX menu is built in on all the wires enabled radios. Just the way Yaesu designed it. I’ve been able to program lots of the radio functions in RT Systems. That’s also still developing.
@@K6UDA I didn't have a FT2D. This is my first experience with YSF. Compared to a D878 or even a $30 Baefung, I find the sound lacking. I don't have a local YSF repeater, so I'm using it with a pi-star hotspot. When I attempt to select a talkgroup by clicking Search&Direct then entering a group ID (for example, 21080), it thinks for a while, then it beeps three times. It doesn't do the switch. If I use the ALL function to display groups of 20, I can successfully select one of them, but that's impractical with over 760 groups. Regarding RT-Systems, I must be missing something. I don't see any way to enter favorite talkgroups similar to 878 zones so you can dial through them and select them easily. Compared to using my 878 with DMR, the FT3D seems primitive.
System Fusion is designed for WiresX. Ysf is a group of reflectors designed for use from a hotspot. I’m not aware of any repeaters that carry ysf or fcs reflectors over the air. I will tell you that my openspot2 works great when picking reflectors from search.

As far as the software, you can’t load up memory with talkgroups like you do in DMR. It’s a different architecture.
Color me jealous!
