    You poor, innocent child. A Mariko look-a-like. Sure, let's go with that theory. We can also say that Buntaro didn't hit Mariko. He hit a look-a-like.

    Blackthorn was a Privateer.. a ship captain with letters of Marque from the countries of Britain and Holland . Basically a pirate with license to kill the enemies of the country he works for.. he was at war with Spain and Portugal. He did not kill for no reason , and he clearly wasn’t a man interested in just ‘grape & pillage” episode 3 showed you he didnt even want casual sex with either man or woman and found it offensive to his Protestant religious beliefs. I love your reactions to the show.. i think its really fun seeing how you view this series thru your eyes. Its a great way to relive this fantastic series.. keep going ! I hope you love the entire season and more.. subbed and liked!

    Still on the opening remarks, so just jumping in to say it wasn't a consort, it was Mariko.
    The consort was a cover story.

    It was Mariko not a consort, she just didnt want Fuji or anyone else to know.

      A lot of people are missing a key component of Japanese culture, especially of the time: a silent agreement to an alternative truth. Everyone knows it wouldn’t have been proper for Mariko to have spent the night with Blackthorn, so everyone agrees that such a thing never happened, it must have been a courtesan, and it never has to even be discussed. It’s similar to when I lived in Japan and the cleaning woman would come into the restroom to do her job. You didn’t see her, she didn’t see you, so there’s no reason for anyone to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed. It’s just a silent agreement between the woman and any men who happened to be there.

      Is there any actual proof of this outside people's personal thoughts on creative writing? Why is this stated as a fact when it's most likely intentionally left up to interpretation?

    • @submandave1125
      @submandave1125 18 дней назад

      @@Loll0saurus Several reasons:
      1. First and foremost, it's made explicitly clear in the book that this is the case.
      2. The event happens in the context of discussions and other things related to this principle of agreed truth.
      3. Occam would also argue that it is far more likely that the "consort" who looks, acts, and speaks exactly like Mariko is actually her in disguise than that she was able to find such a perfect doppelganger.

    During the 1600's in England a person could definitely get the death penalty for stealing, so the show is a little disingenuous in suggesting that the Anjin would be shocked by this penalty even if he personally didn't approve of it.

    • @labbetuss
      @labbetuss 2 месяца назад

      He's shocked because he unknowingly sentenced his friend to die, not because of the death itself.
      It was made pretty clear, but apparently not for some, lmao

      When he first learns of the death he is shocked that they have killed someone over "a stupid bird", it is only later after speaking with Mariko that he understands that he is the cause of the death.

    Well, you _could_ get someone to read your lips and make subs for Ep. 4. 🤪
    Even better, it'd be hilarious if you got someone to make *Japanese* dubs to sync with the EN subs.

    I am sorry but the issue on this situation is blackthorn, he is there talking about life and shit while being a pirate and trying to deceive everyone.
    He has no accountability for himself and is childish blaming everything to everyone.
    All I have to say is that in this show there you can’t trust no one.

    • @StuSaville

      Blackthorn wasn't a pirate, he was a privateer granted a legal letter of marque to make war upon the Spanish and Portuguese. In the book Rodrigues steals Blackthorn's letter of marque in order to frame him as a pirate but later returns it after Blackthorne saves his life. For some reason they omitted that detail from this show.
