The best Jamal Murray was just a very good shooting guard with excellent ball handling, but never a good point guard. That's why I think that if the Canadian decided to just play it easy and let the game flow naturally to him, he'd be a +20 point and +10 assist player with good shooting percentages. Hi guys, not sure why is the trade with Broklyn Nets overlooked where we send MPJ, Zeke and Strawther + 1st round pick for Cam Johnson, Cam Thomas and Dorian Finney-Smith. It would be great trade. Swapping for both offensive and defensive upgrades. Both Cams would bring shooting that we are lacking, while Finney-Smith would be defensive upgrade. And instead of MPJ (pains to lose him tbh) we get two scorers/shooters. While Finney-Smith boosts defense that is a huge plus, he could come off the bench. I'd say NO. MPJ has been pretty much balling recently (even better than Jamal), he's younger than Jimmy but already got finals experience, and he's a better 3pt shooter than Jimmy. Nuggets are already one of the worst 3pt shooting team in the league, don't think it's a good idea to trade one of their better 3pt shooters.

Yeah, by comparison, I’d much rather have those two names vs old Jimmy. That’s what it comes down to for me. MPJ is their current most tradeable asset & I’d like to see them upgrade, I just don’t think Jimmy is the trade.
This proposed move goes in COMPLETELY the wrong direction! Completely wrong! The Nuggets problems are that they are too top heavy with their top 4 earning way too much money. The only possible solution is to break MPJ's contract into 3 pieces - 1 $15m/yr. Guy and 2 $10m/yr. players. Now you have some flexibility and can make deals and move pieces around as new possibilities arise. Even better if they could find a way to unload Zeke Naji's insane $32m contract with the player option and gain even more flexibility to make roster moves. Adding Jimmy Butler is just nuts, making the roster more locked in to a few overpriced players!
And Adam, I respect your “is the cooler professionalism approach ‘less than’ the brotherhood of the championship season?” But it’s not Less Than. “Abbey Road” is pretty much as good as “Revolver” or “Sgt Pepper”
As the team currently sits can we beat the celtcs, mavs, or healthy thunder? If the answer is no, then you make a trade. We have wasted too many prime joker years with injuries. We need depth not jimmy butler. Trade MPJ,, ZEKE, AND 2031 1st for bogi, hunter, larry nance jr, or another decent big.
The front office's job is to surround Nikola with players who can maximize his qualities (many) and minimize his problems (rim protection and perimeter defense only). With Jokić being the first point center in history, I think it's important to have a backup point guard who can lead the team when Nikola is on the bench. An ideal player for that position could have been the current Chris Paul. You also need a backup center with a decent NBA level to play about 15 minutes on average. A player like Luka Garza, Al Horford, Clint Capela, Jonas Valančiūnas or Isaiah Hartenstein. A good player who can generate points in ISO and, if possible, is not a black hole on defense. Christian Braun, Butler, Aaron Gordon, Porter Jr. and Jokić. Who needs a true PG when you have Jokic? Russ off the bench with Watson, Strawther, to round out the 8 man rotation (sorry Jokic, you are playing 35-40 mintutes a night until next year when we get Holmes healthy). Thank you for your service Jamal, we wish you well in Miami.
you do not need JB type of player. You need two KCPs and few Bruce Browns.... You do not trade Mercedes from garage for BMW if you lack jack stand and wrenches... No, you go and buy those things..
Facts all Jokic needs to win is shooters and defense. The Nuggets didn’t lose a jimmy butler, they lost kcp and bruce brown. They have to replace those guys, you’re right.
Butler has only 661 made threes in 13 NBA seasons (only 9 so far this season). He’s less of a 3 point shooter than Gordon. I get it that he’s very good overall (even at 35), but does anybody win big in the NBA with a starting lineup like that? I suppose the argument is that Jokic can make any offense work well and improving the defense is far more important. But sagging defenses and bad court spacing makes life difficult.
Missed the show and that might have been for the best. This title absolutely triggered me! 😂 As if Booth wasn't already on the hot seat. Y'all trying to make sure the man is no longer employed. So, one oft injured underperforming guard isn't enough for you that you feel the need to get another? Interesting. Unless we're giving up a bag of flat balls and 2 busted needles, then I'm good. Booth, however, will probably give up our 2031 1st.
Our second best player should come off the bench once he’s healthy. We don’t continue to start someone because we’re afraid of how they will handle it mentally. Don’t let him hold our championship hopes hostage!
sooo are we saying that we need a trade and we also need 27 to play as he used to? in this case, think we might be truly screwed, all teams got better, each and every year, we just got worse each and every year after the title, and now we are almost out of any options.... thanks calvin!
If it was a 1 for 1 swap, Herb for Watson, I’d do that in a heartbeat. I personally don’t think Watson is going to be any better in the years ahead than he currently is. This is what, year 3 for him. He hasn’t taken major steps forward. It seems like his midrange game is worse this year & pretty much nonexistent. He doesn’t shoot from 3 well. He often totally misses dunks. His defense seems worse this year without checking the numbers. I just would be shocked if he developed into the next KD.
that idea of "hey we can replace player's A contribution with two weaker players B and C" NEVER WORKS. They used the same argument when Brucie Brown was leaving, they seriously though he can be replaced by Reggie Jackson and Pickett lol
So…what are the odds that Denver does NOT make any trade at the deadline? If this were to occur, I think it’d absolutely be a vote of no confidence in Booth & a big indicator Josh is firing his butt this offseason. I mean, does anyone trust Calvin completely to not screw another roster move up? Does Josh trust him?
At this point, Jimmy is another Jamal. I think one is enough. I'd pull the trigger if it were one for the other. Also, I'd bet MPJ may play better with a push from Jimmy. Jamal? I'm not so sure.
I was against Jimmy for Junior when I first heard but I think Adam may have changed my mind. Just build a Dogg Pound around Joker. Jamal can hit the highway next year too if he doesn't wanna play
We need to stop trying to scapegoat MPJ. The fact that Bogdanovic for MPJ was even mentioned is crazy. Bogdanovic averages 12 pts and is only 6'5. MPJ is the best shooter on the team, one of the best rebounders, and is one of the reasons Denver is unique because of how big their frontline is. Facts are Jamal Murray is just horrible right now. We keep waiting for him to be a true second star instead of the second best player on this team. If his play was more consistently in line with how he has played in the playoffs (outside of last year) this team would more than likely be elite again. This goes beyond the starting unit, Murray is supposed to be the scoring threat with the bench unit once Jokic comes out the game and I think it's very telling that the bench has been horrible the past few years. To put it simple, We keep waiting for Murray to be Tyrese Maxey and he hasn't become that for an entire season.
Are you guys crazy? Anyone who has even an inkling of basketball knowledge understands Butler wouldn't work in Denver for a variety of reasons. Stop it...
We are F UPED by Jamal Murray contract, no matter what we do we have liability on defense in with no offense upside, -10 a more per 100 in any line up that doesn't have Jokic in it...
@rjp1996 Because there are timeframes you can’t trade someone after they sign a contract. So since Murray just signed a contract the soonest we can trade him is this coming off season.
Just got home from work and settled in to watch the show, and a song about Nikola Jokic popped up instantly in my feed. Maculate- Sombor Shufflin. I have to say... I was impressed! Some pretty cool artwork in there too. If you are a Joker fan, you definitely need to check it out. 🔥
No , because Jimmy Butler is Not Denver Nuggets material. He didn't even mention the Mile High City. Denver Nuggets and the Joker beat down Jimmy Buckets and Miami.
@brashadcarr6759 Nuggets material is Joker, Dan Issel, Alex English, ECT...all very unselfish players throughout their careers. Got to admit Denver Nuggets material got children on the team Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr, and Westbrook that don't want to be on the team.
PWat, Braun, MPJ, AG - absolutely keep Russ, Murray - wouldn't hurt to keep Pickett, Tyson - should keep but could be traded Saric, Strawther, others - can be traded DJ - wait to retire
If Booth wants to complete the destruction of the Nuggets for the entire Jokic era by trading their one remaining trade piece MPJ for a 36 year old Point Guard who doesn't even want to be here (wants to go to California or Dallas), just trade for Jimmy Butler! Now you have 2 untradeable point guards earning $50m/yr with declining skills sets. And what are you doing with Jamal when he comes back? His new contract makes him untradeable this summer, (who wants a $50/yr 4 year commitment to Jamal unless you add other assets to get them to take him -- and the Nuggets have none). The whole thing would make a bad situation much worse! Hard pass! That is the worst idea I've heard in a while for the Nuggets!👎
Well the band analogy is definitely not a good one.....😂 Bands historically are really toxic after success! When everyone is broke and haven't yet broken through, that's when bandmates are closest. It's usually the opposite in team sports. Depending on the internal leadership, teams tend to grow closer with success, that's how you get dynasties. It is possible The Nuggets are a one season champion only......a lot depends on the internal leadership. I think the gm should at least show the veterans that he is willing to deal away some of his young experimental pieces. I think he has one vision but the head coach probably has another. The head coach probably wants experienced veterans and the gm wants him to play youngsters. I say trade away some of the inexperienced players.
IF Jimmy Butler was 25-33 yrs old (2014-15 to 22-23) then no brainer yes, but when the playoffs start this year he will be 35.75 yrs old! 2015-23 Jimmy All NBA 5x, All NBA D 5x, 6X all Star, DPOY votes 6X, and one of best playoff risers ever, but being 35.75 when 2025 playoffs start scares me. Also MPJ is their best volume 3P shooter on a team that already doesn’t shoot nearly enough 3s (+ he helps their spacing). I’d def be intrigued by it, but I think it’s very unlikely bc Rockets, GSW has more to offer young talent wise (without MPJ’s 3 back surgeries). Heat may like CB, but Nuggets shouldn’t trade him imo and I doubt Booth would do it. There’s no way in hell Heat are doing it for just MPJ Zeke Tyson (as Wind put together) as those are 3 overpaid contracts. They absolutely would want Watson &/or CB especially if Rockets/Warriors offering some of their better young talent + more picks than Nuggets can offer. “I want the nuggets to still be THE ONLY GOOD THING about the NBA”. - Harrison Wind - Sounds like something an annoying elitist Lakers Warriors Spurs Celtics 90s Bulls etc fan would say on twitter🙄. Also sounds like a casual NBA fan to be honest who doesn’t know all the dope things happening in NBA, but only watches their own team and all other opinions are made by watching annoying debate shows. PS Jason Terry was on Mavs for 8yrs including 04-10 before they won title in 2011. Besides that though Adam right no one on that team very long. PSS Jokic is God tier, one of the GOAT, but when Nuggets made WCF & Won title going 16-4 Murray played at first ballot HOF level AVERAGING 26, 7, 5, 1.5 stocks on insane 49/42/93 splits and other worldly 54/52/95 in 4ths (8.1 PP4th) so to win it all it takes more then good players around him (just like every player ever besides 93-94 Hakeem & 2010-11 Dirk)….2004 Pistons aside + 94 Hakeem & 11 Dirk every team ever who has won a title has had 2 or more players play better then GOOD (although 98 Bulls & 13 Heat Pippen & Wade didn’t play great & hurt a lot).
The team has basically stripped itself back to Calvin Booth draft and Calvin Booth terrible free no dynasty carries itself solely on the draft and 11th and 12th spot minimum pickups. Mike is trash on defense and it’s his brain. I don’t think his defensive awareness grows

Actually, here's the real answer: There is no realistic trade that saves us from the simple fact that the Nuggets' championship potential lives or dies with Jamal Murray.
Even if Murray plays like this we can still be a championship contender. Trade for hunter bogi micic and nick richards and sign free agents like lonnie or holiday. Ur 3 point shooting can reach top 5 in league. Ur perimeter defense will have no issues. Ur bench will have legit options who can create their own offense.

you do not need JB type of player.
The Nugget's needs are exactly what the rest of the NBA is missing: Solid Backup Center and consistent shooters....
Porter at best is a 6th man scoring bump on this team in the league today with his defense. On a championship basketball team, anyway.
We should trade Zeke, Dario and picks. definitely not MPj
Missed the show and that might have been for the best. This title absolutely triggered me! 😂
As if Booth wasn't already on the hot seat.
I think the hawks are a ideal trade partner
The Butler-MPJ trade is so dumb. This feels like a “I just like the guy so I want him on my team” cause logically it makes 0 sense
Our second best player should come off the bench once he’s healthy. We don’t continue to start someone because we’re afraid of how they will handle it mentally. Don’t let him hold our championship hopes hostage!
I don’t want mike be gone
Take away the 2nd best scoring option who do you end up with, injury prone Murray and inconsistent Straughters?
sooo are we saying that we need a trade and we also need 27 to play as he used to? in this case, think we might be truly screwed, all teams got better, each and every year, we just got worse each and every year after the title, and now we are almost out of any options.... thanks calvin!
Herb Jones immediately becomes BY FAR the nuggets best POA defender. He’s a lot savvier than PWat
Herb Jones for Watson should be done in an instant if the salaries match.
Nothing against Watson.
that idea of "hey we can replace player's A contribution with two weaker players B and C" NEVER WORKS.
Boogie still available... and Jokic is likely why Jamal got the max.
Bogdan over MPJ is fucking crazy lol
Mpj strwather for hunter and bogi
I’d like the herb jones move.
Mpl should get 23 shots anight let get loose
No
YES
No but they should do a straight up trade Murray for Kings' Fox!!!
Are you guys crazy? Anyone who has even an inkling of basketball knowledge understands Butler wouldn't work in Denver for a variety of reasons. Stop it...
Imagine AG n butler monster duo
Bumal Murray!
We are F UPED by Jamal Murray contract, no matter what we do we have liability on defense in with no offense upside, -10 a more per 100 in any line up that doesn't have Jokic in it...
ive been seeing a lot of comments about the fact that jamal murray cant be traded this season. anyone, what is the reason behind that?
@rjp1996
Because there are timeframes you can’t trade someone after they sign a contract. So since Murray just signed a contract the soonest we can trade him is this coming off season.
Jokic is scoring better because WB passes to him better than anyone he has played with
Just got home from work and settled in to watch the show, and a song about Nikola Jokic popped up instantly in my feed. Maculate- Sombor Shufflin. I have to say... I was impressed! Some pretty cool artwork in there too. If you are a Joker fan, you definitely need to check it out. 🔥
Watched it last night, shit is a banger 🎵🎵🎵, loved it 🙌
I think the nuggets wanted nights off during the nba cup. After it’s over and things pick up I predict 68% win team the rest of the way.
MPJ is there every night last season and so far this. KEEP MPJ and extend his contract at a lower level.
Jimmy would hate playing with Jamal Murray
everyane is good with Jok,Jimmi is good if he can be fit...
No , because Jimmy Butler is Not Denver Nuggets material. He didn't even mention the Mile High City.
Denver Nuggets and the Joker beat down Jimmy Buckets and Miami.
This paragraph says absolutely nothing lol. What’s Nuggets material? Underperforming athletically and bad defensive rotation??
Jimmy is way more nuggets material than some of the guys on the team
Is Jamal Nuggets material ? Turning up once every 4/5 games ? Getting blown by on defence showing no desire or positive attitude .
@VLAD_P_ Well no. But the Denver Nuggets need not to add another child to the team.
Who we going to trade? Our shoes? LMAO
Only MPJ is tradeable and theres no way we need Jimmy Butler rn over MPJ
PWat, Braun, MPJ, AG - absolutely keep
Russ, Murray - wouldn't hurt to keep
Pickett, Tyson - should keep but could be traded
Saric, Strawther, others - can be traded
DJ - wait to retire
Michael is Jimmy’s age but 10 years younger lol. Jimmy’s game is far more athletic than Mike’s right now
If Booth wants to complete the destruction of the Nuggets for the entire Jokic era by trading their one remaining trade piece MPJ for a 36 year old Point Guard who doesn't even want to be here (wants to go to California or Dallas), just trade for Jimmy Butler!
Well the band analogy is definitely not a good one.....😂
Bands historically are really toxic after success!
Herb Jones pleae
Or just fire Malone. Why over complicate things.
Trading MPJ for 32 year old bogdanovic? What are we even talking about here lmao
That’s a horrible idea, and he’s not shooting as well and he’s averaging less points per game.
FIRE Calvin Booth!!!!
He can come, but not for MPJ!!!! Jamal can go out next year
who's going to tell Jamal (that he needs to be more professional)
Get Bogdan Bogdanovic! He is better player than MPJ, dont know why Wind is confused?
The team has basically stripped itself back to Calvin Booth draft and Calvin Booth terrible free no dynasty carries itself solely on the draft and 11th and 12th spot minimum pickups. Mike is trash on defense and it’s his brain. I don’t think his defensive awareness grows in years to come. Definitely not under this coaching team.
Looks like Lebron may be willing to trade himself. We’ll take him here in Denver!
Actually, here's the real answer:
There is no realistic trade that saves us from the simple fact that the Nuggets' championship potential lives or dies with Jamal Murray.
I agree with this.
Every trade scenario is still contingent on Murray picking his game up to near all-star level(24-26 pts per game 46/40/85 splits)
That’s a fact. And the team can’t maybe change that until this summer when Murray could potentially be traded.
Trade Murray for Austin reeves. Straight up. Basically same production for the correct price. Lakers get a better 3pt shooter
Then their have to trade Braun
Booth will probably trade for a player, that he won’t pay, and they’ll walk for nothing. That’s his MO, right?😎
Let’s be honest here , we are hanging by a tread, we can’t trade, coach has no balls to bench Murray, every year we look worse… we were so happy to have first 5 tied up but now we realise we only screwed Jokic, every single player in first 5 is below average player and worst that previous season… So 2 options, Jok leaves or we loose the whole team and
Nuggets don't need Jimmy they need another big and a shooter to pair with Russ off the bench.
No. If you guys are crying in your beer now, wait till there's no more MPJ around to find out what sorrow really is. The former cripple is now an NBA iron man. Jimmy Butler is anything but. You'll get rid of seven productive MPJ years for a guy who's close to washed and may or may not be ready to go come playoff time ... for one year or maybe two of his declining career.
I am so sick of the discourse about making a trade, NBA casuals infecting the die hards
GET JIMMY TRADE MURRAY
Nuggets will stay the same or trade brother Jordan to pascal siakam
Bring Linsanity to Denver!!! 😂
Just off of reading the title. NO!
Booth needs to something or get out of the way!
No! Dude is 36! Injury prone.
If we are moving the 2031 1st rounder and some youth then trade Murray NOW and get off of that contract. Murray is done.
