I've bought and owned probably over 50 cars in my lifetime. One thing I know, is if a car sits, it rots. The act of using it keep it alive, and the love a person can give it keep it young. The mileage count seems to still have such an impact on the value of a car, but it's really the dispersion of the miles that matters. A car that has been sitting for 2 years will have issues, even if it was a low mileage car. But a high mileage car will have less issues when taken car of and driven while respected.
"Man loves his car." Another great video Matt, many of us love the Countach it was the most flamboyant car of its time and the reviewers of the day were not very kind to it so it is great to see people like Harry, Jay and yourself showing them in a better light.
Beautiful! Having driven a 1987 countach lp5000s for over 5,000kms I can tell you it is the best driving experience and I’m saying this having been lucky to have driven all different 911s and turbos, testarossa, 308/348/355/430/458 diablo murcielago etc etc. To someone that hasn’t spent much time with exotics, they might not have the experience with them to appreciate a countach in all its glory and find it to have a heavy clutch, bad visitibilty etc. But to the experienced enthusiast, the Countach is in a different league. Countach is king for a raw visceral unadulterated (no nanny gadgets) spectacular experience which is paralleled by none.
"Pre-Nurburgring" There's a phrase that denotes a real enthusiast. So often fast track cars with amazing roadholding make lousy drivers cars on the road and vice versa. The Integrale was pretty hopeless on the track (understeer) but one of the greatest road cars ever plus you get to keep your spine and fillings. Even Colin Chapman's mantra for road cars was softly sprung and firmly damped and there was a man that knew a thing or two about handling. Top vid and top guy too!

A hero from my childhood! And I agree, the 5000S QV with the big rear wing, none of the oversized bumpers and absent the side skirts is definitely a Countach in its prettiest guise... In red! :D
Great video! Thank you! I tell you what, I would much rather have a car with a 6-speed manual and a 0 - 60 time around the 5-second range than a car with a DCT and paddle shifters and a 0 - 60 time in the 4-second range. For me, the actual joy of driving and engaging with a car with a proper 3 peddle manual trumps a car with a DCT no matter how fast it is. That is why cars like this Countach and even the handful of cars with great manuals on the market right now will always be sought after. Electric cars have proven you can have insane or even "ludicrous" acceleration but lose the soul of driving.
Oh man! How good does that sound!!! This is probably the best driving video for a Countach that i have found yet! And i gotta say i 150% agree that this is the best they made.
As much as Matt seems to genuinely ❤️ this car I can’t help but imagine some of the motivation here is about increasing the collectibility and hence the value, not that there’s anything at all wrong with that.
@@joro2 See I don't feel like Matt was trying to sell this car to the uber rich and drive up the prices. I felt like what he was preaching about the Countach is that its an actual usable and fun car to drive. He was trying to bust the myth that these cars are fragile, finicky, always break down and are horrible to drive. He kind of proves his point in that he drives his hard and hasn't had any issues. As with all old cars, sitting kind of kills them, which I think was what he was trying to get at here.
"This is a sixth sense car". this quote and this video told me more about the Countach than I read in 30 years of literature on the subject. Congratulations . you are a very fortunate man to have experienced this. A big thanks for sharing.
My goto meal when tired: instant rice, 1 can of tuna (natural), olive oil, half a can of corn, some Parmesan & spice mix and you can also add some precut vegetables.
Gotta love a classic lambo with that horn 16:15. Also I love how Matt and the drivers he surronds himself with want a car to drive the car. The car stays in better shape when you drive it and you have way more fun. Why buy a car and barley drive it and when you do you drive it soft? Especially if the car is begging you to take it out a lot and rev it up. I recently started driving my car a bit harder, nothing crazy but ive just been babying it a bit since it is new to me. And seriosuly, now it feels a lot smoother and happier.
I about shit myself when you said “25K for a clutch service”. That’s absolutely crazy. Is that something you’ll fork over for clutch job if you need another one while you own it?
It's the first time I'm seeing your Countach and, other than the wing, that's exactly how I'd like it. Whoever replaced your front bumper was spot on. If the state you live in catches fire more often than your car, you're doing a good job.
I dream of this car every day. Always has been and always will be my all time favorite. Thank you for this. I get such a dopamine hit when I hear and see this beautiful machine.
I know this video is a couple years old, but I still really enjoyed going for the ride with you! The Lamborghini Countach was just coming out when I was in college and I joined the USAF in 1978. I still enjoyed dreaming of owning one "someday." Haha! I keep looking forward to the day I can drive one. Enjoy driving yours a little for me, alright!?? LOL!
I am really happy about this video, I've spent all my life reading about how bad of a driver to Countach is. Finally a review from an owner and someone passionate about the car which gives justice to this iconic car.
I think the cars of the 80s and 90s will hold onto their value. The middle to late 00s to 10s will be the cars taking a bath when the market corrects hard.
Leno said he doesn't even move his Countach until the temp needle starts to move. It seems like owning a Countach wouldn't be that much different from any other classic car. They all have their special care requirements.
I'm so happy you made this video. I know you hate making ones about your own cars, but you also own very interesting cars that we all would love to know about. I'm really hoping the Vanquish makes and appearance now that you have it with you.
Absolutely, an amazing car. Not the best, by far, but one that begs you to drive it (like so few super cars front that era). Not finicky, but a true drivers car. Absolutely stunning, and thank you for sharing one of your pride and joys with us.
5.2L V-12, 440 HP, 8K rpm red line, 5-speed, 180 MPH. In 1988. Today, a Mustang can be had with a 5.2L, 526 HP, flat-plane crank V8, 6-speed, 185 MPH...fun to compare the past to the present and definitely Lamborghini deserves a "Hat tip" for doing what they did with what they had in the "Dog-smog" era of the '80's.
Great video. Thanks for the great insight. Gives me more assurance to get one. Like you, I don’t worry about the miles. This is a car to be enjoyed and not kept for the next owner! I love the soundtrack when you’re going thru the gears!! My fav car of all time. Only caught a glimpse of one many years ago on the hwy.
I was obsessed with this car, growing up in the '80s. I had a white Hotwheels that I painted black, had a color changing one that turned from white to pink (because '80s), drew one in profile and made about a zillion copies at my dad's office and framed the original. At one point, I thought I would one day work in an office building shaped like a giant Countach. And what's more, I don't think this was an atypical experience. The car just had that effect on people. That said, my big takeaway from this OneTake, other than the fact that the Countach is a better GT than I had been lead to believe, is that the engine and driveline appear to have a colossal amount of mechanical drag. It sounds like it's working so hard just to move, but it's not really moving all that quickly--or as the video would appear. I've driven a few big motor, high torque, low power cars from that era that make a lot of bark, but struggle to get out of their own way. This reminds me of that. My favorite of them all is the Countach LP 500 Prototype, which lacks all the flares, wings, and scoops (which were, ironically, what got my attention as a kid).
@@04dram04 I have no nostalgia for the 90's video games because I was too young to enjoy them back then. The best driving physics of any Need for Speed game were in NFS: Porsche Unleashed where they captured the widow-making nature of the older 911's perfectly. I also enjoy a lot of flight sims and space sims from the 90's because they offer a unique experience. Flight sims nowadays are either way more arcady or realistic and there's nothing in the middle. They also lack a proper single player campaign. Space sims only got worse. The standards for flight model and controls set by devs in the 90's are ignored these days. It's like those games didn't even exist.
A Countach is the only car you could put in orbit, nobody would notice. They would all think it belongs there. :) Thanks for the vid, I have friends with a variety of Lambos they all say the same thing. You have to drive the cars, when you don't, that's where the nightmares begin. But that's true for any car.
Everyone else: ‘The countach is horrible to drive, the steering so heavy, and the clutch takes all your strength to press down’ Matt Farah: ‘This is a usable investment!’ Guess having like 20lb arms and 50lb legs has its advantages 😂
TheSmokingTire I guess there’s a possibility, that if the ones other people have reviewed are collection pieces that they’ve developed air locks in the clutch system, or the fluids got a bunch of water in. Either that or the other reviewers are just soft 😂.
@@Jonathan_Doe_ Since I know (my own) countach so well, I can tell you that there is a real difference in how the car behaves if you drive it once a week, vs once every other week, vs once a month, vs once every 3 months, vs once a year. If someone pulls a countach out of a collection, and that car isn't a real driver, it's going feel like an old man in a nursing home. When I drive my car once a week or more, it's ace. If I don't start it for 2 weeks, it gives me a monster fuck you backfire before starting. The bushings feel creaky, the shifter is stiff. It takes a good 30 minutes to warm it all up. The countach has a LOT of personality. It wants to be driven and will kick you in the dick if you don't drive it. People who drive their cars (or test cars that get driven a lot) almost always have nice things to say. Harry Metcalfe, or anyone who drives his car (The Grand Tour) always has nice things to say. People who come out in my car are always shocked at how normal and not annoying it is. But it also carries 16 quarts of oil, and takes a very long time to warm up. Do not trust a review of a car pulled from some collection. Trust people who own and drive their cars a lot, because those cars are in the kind of shape they need to be in to run good.
TheSmokingTire Same thing with Ducati’s, if I don’t ride mine for a couple of weeks it sounds like hell when I start it up, and the part throttle lugging is awful. Ride it daily and it fires up on the button (even in freezing cold weather) and pulls like a train from 2k.
I know some people say dont meet your heroes but this is my all-time favorite super car a low body specifically but still my fav I dont care how uncomfortable it is just love it good for you man

You will never lose a penny on that car when you sell it. Such a crazy car.
My second favorite vehicle of yours behind the FoxBody you had.
Loved the video Matt, thanks for sharing your experience with the beautiful car!
This is the one car I had a poster of on my wall as a kid. Love it.
Thanks for the great Countach video, Matt! I love a lot of your ST videos, but this one sits atop!
Garage RS I won’t, a clutch is a lifetime service if it’s my car.
TheSmokingTire that makes sense. They do last as long as they’re not abused.
Thank you for the reply!
Testerossa clutch is like 40k so 25k ain't that bad.
@@BIGWEBB88 lol a friend of mine bought a cheap TR in like 2006 for about $40k, and within 3 weeks he killed the clutch - another $45k lol
TheSmokingTire hahaha the only reason I knew that number was from your video on the TR!
It's the first time I'm seeing your Countach and, other than the wing, that's exactly how I'd like it. Whoever replaced your front bumper was spot on. If the state you live in catches fire more often than your car, you're doing a good job.
Leno used his as a DD for a few years.
I dream of this car every day. Always has been and always will be my all time favorite. Thank you for this. I get such a dopamine hit when I hear and see this beautiful machine.
That engine just sings. What a wonderful sounds. Thanks for sharing
LOL!
Just quality as always
I am really happy about this video, I've spent all my life reading about how bad of a driver to Countach is. Finally a review from an owner and someone passionate about the car which gives justice to this iconic car.
Cat's, Ramen and a Lamborghini. Perfection!
Nice Lambo, and Valentino Balboni drove it too!
One of my favorite videos. Hopefully someday I’ll get to go for a ride on one... my childhood dream car.
I think the cars of the 80s and 90s will hold onto their value. The middle to late 00s to 10s will be the cars taking a bath when the market corrects hard.
I see Mclarens 650s dropping to like 80K next year
Amazing content Matt. Thanks for sharing your beautiful car!!
Absolutely stunning, and thank you for sharing one of your pride and joys with us.
the best impressions vid of a countach I've seen (I really like Harrys road trip vids in his)
Thanks Matt, this made me smile 😊 it is a dream car, enjoy it like I’m sure you are!!!
Gosh, I need one of these in my life.
DoctaM3 waiting for the right time doc??
I hope you already have one brother! I will have one soon💪🏻
The Pirelli P7 is the original tire...the P Zero is the newer more advanced version....
Even that honking of the horn at the end sounded awesome for some reason lol. Awesome car
This video feels like playing Need for Speed in the 90's. Back when those games were actually good. Nostalgia is strong with this one.
naw those games weren't good. But the nostalgia is
@@04dram04
I have no nostalgia for the 90's video games because I was too young to enjoy them back then.
Thanks for sharing. Fun drive, great noises.
A Countach is the only car you could put in orbit, nobody would notice. They would all think it belongs there. :)
Thanks for the vid, I have friends with a variety of Lambos they all say the same thing. You have to drive the cars, when you don't, that's where the nightmares begin. But that's true for any car.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. The Alpine colored Countach Experience relived. VAROOM AWESOME!
Everyone else: ‘The countach is horrible to drive, the steering so heavy, and the clutch takes all your strength to press down’
Matt Farah: ‘This is a usable investment!’
Guess having like 20lb arms and 50lb legs has its advantages 😂
Johnathan Doe the clutch in my “daily driver” Safari 911 is substantially heavier than the Countach
TheSmokingTire thanks for this explanation, love this car
TheSmokingTire Same thing with Ducati’s, if I don’t ride mine for a couple of weeks it sounds like hell when I start it up, and the part throttle lugging is awful.
Ride it daily and it fires up on the button (even in freezing cold weather) and pulls like a train from 2k.
I know some people say dont meet your heroes but this is my all-time favorite super car a low body specifically but still my fav
I dont care how uncomfortable it is
just love it good for you man
Ive never heard such a spot on review of the 300ZX !
@ as a 300zx owner id buy a 300zx history book lol. Cheaper than the headlights 😉
@@nighttrain1565 The '96 and up Diablo has 300ZX headlights. The Countach has nothing to do with a Z32. Perhaps I'm missing something else. But you being all cryptic isn't helping. And I've been into Zs since the 80's. And I have no idea what a 70's Lamborghini and a Z32 have in common. So instead saying I should get history books, which I have, tell me what the point is you're trying to make.
@ I totally believe that nobody ever walks up to your panty bunched ass and asks "is that a Lamborghini?" 😂 you must get the "is that a sunfire?" People lmao! You sound exactly like most z32 fanboys.. Rear prolly dusted black from being full of jwt junk parts lol. It's sad. And its embarrassing for other Z32 owners. Like not all of us are stuck with our first car because were too broke to buy anything else. Why are all you hardcore Z guys always angry😂 it's like none of you are getting laid or something
Thank you very much for sharing with us. Great job in communicating what it’s like to drive and own. I’m glad it is a source of joy in your life. 😀
Wow. That was a treat
are the off-set pedals uncomfortable? or is this something you don't even notice after a while?
So happy to see you enjoying it. Totally deserve it with how much work you put into the vids.
Fantastic car!! Am a big fan of it. 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for finally giving us a true review of the countach.
Every reporter before has not managed to put jellousy behind them.
But then I guess... When you own one you can't be jealous.
THIS was the car on my bedroom wall and IS the car on my garage wall.
This thing still looks stunning being properly driven like this.
