  • A film documenting the making of my current cello (September 2013) using beautiful, old European wood. Music on the film is played on two of my previous cellos - one made in 2010 and the other in 2012.

    Climbing mountain Everest and making an instrument like this by hand are of the same achievement, except you don't die frozen making a musical instrument!

    Got here by asking Google "on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard is it to make a cello?" It's apparently a 15... never mind then.

    how does one get the measure for the frame? I have no clue in case i wanted to start my own thing :( would you give me any ideas or anyone?

      Owesy Woesy the second piece I think is an arrangement of El Cant Dels Ocells (The Song of the Birds) by Pablo Casals

      It sounds like the Fujara, a bass overtone flute

    Please could someone give me a hint on how to take off the ebony scale glued from Cello arm. Luthiery'm learning by myself, because I live far from the large urban centers of my country. I intend to form a first musical group with stringed instruments in my municipality. I am very grateful.

      Hide glue is heat sensitive, so warm it up, and pry it off with something thin and sharp

    I guess this is not carved/solid wood right ?

      the tops and backs are carved from (usually) two glued pieces of wood each to a very thin dome-like shape.
