@nyc king i have much respect for judo. one of my first instructors were - apart from being bjj black belts - seasoned judokas, i think 2nd and 4th dan in judo, so i couldn't understand all the hate. we've got judo players training in my current club too; there's a blue belt who's a black belt in judo, i'm a bjj brown belt, but going against him i obviously don't look that well in standup :)
this being said, judo trolls spewing that shit on the internet are quite annoying. (yes i'm aware most of them are probably just keyboard warriors who don't really train either art).

Right so judo Vs bjj. Yeah fair enough the judo guy will hit a takedown if the bjj guy doesn't pull guard then what happens? The judo guy gets chocked out because bjj are much better on the ground. The judo guy gets it to where the bjj is comfortable just not in a comfortable way
oh you dont think judo has tons of chokes and armlocks? judo groundwork is much faster and more explosive. Judo is not just throws as you believe.
This isn't Judo vs BJJ and Judo isn't automatically worse on the ground. Kimura kicked the dog shit out of Helio Gracie on the ground and Flavio Canto could do the same to 80-90% of people who do BJJ.

they have diverged long ago, and bjj has moved on.
by now, most of the guards and strategies used by bjj are unknown in judo.
judo itself was hardly an original system - it's not like, say, the armbar wasn't invented before the 20th century ;) it drew heavily from traditional ju-jitsu and other martial arts.
