Ordinarily it would be weird and pandering, given the setting, but it's based on a real historical person, so it really isn't a problem.

@danielhounshell2526 I can see that not being an issue in most games (in fact, Yusuke HAS been in other games and manga before), but I do question why he was made a Protagonist instead of just being am NPC in the story (like Leonardo Da Vinci was in 2). The fact that AC NEVER ONCE had a historical figure playable and the first time they ever did it was for the single black guy in feudal Japan does come off as odd to me. (Specially since we've had black assassin's creed leads before, but never an Asian man).

He was in Nioh (that game at the very end), samurai warriors, got a Historical Fiction anime with him as the main character. I think the thought process was "he's big with the youth right now. Let's make him a major character."

@@stephensmith7327 Yasuke makes total sense to use in this game because it takes place in the time period Japan was starting to open up to foreign trade and as an African man who came over with Portuguese traders and was trained in traditional Japanese arts he is a great window into how Japan deals with the evolution.

For the record I did go through and read some of the responses to the game in Japanese twitter. Nobody was really being racist about the black guy, people in Japan seem to think Yasuke is cool as hell. But. I did see people complain that the woman looked like the wrong kind of Asian.
They want to play as a male native character like the other AC games had, that's all I read. I think in this day and age, you have to give the player the choice to pick as which gender they want to play and further customization.

AC is all about History while playing with it to create unique interactions and stories that otherwise didn't happen. Who'd of thought.
Yasuke instead upholds what they've done as we see various historical figure inclusions like:
Leonardo Da Vinci: nobody complained that he helped Ezio nlt only repair and modify the Hidden Blade twice but he also studied the Apple of Eden too. He was a major supporting figure in a otherwise finctional plot but he's okay tobdo so.
George Washington: at the forefront of AC3 where he allies himself with Ratonhnhaké:ton (Connor) who protects him from Charles Lee.
In the DLC George Washington finds an Apple of Eden. It gave him a nightmarish vision of what would happen if he were crowned king of the United States with its power in his possession, and so he passed the Apple to Connor for it to be disposed of. The DLC goes into detail of what would happen it was called "The Tyranny of King Washington". Again no one batted an eye on how they altered history here.
