25,000 Steps on a Sacred Mountain Made me Emotional (Adam's Peak) 🇱🇰

  • Sri Pada or Adam's Peak is a religious site in Sri Lanka. To reach the peak it takes 12,500 steep steps up (and back down) if you approach from Ratnapura. Thousands of Buddhists climb this peak daily to pray at the Sri Pada temple. While on my way up (and back) I saw people of all ages, from kids to 85 year olds. Some take a few days to reach and others do it in one day, like I did.

Hi Tim, this pilgrimage is one of the oldest known traditions in Sri Lanka Buddhists which is older than 2500 years. It is so important that in early days people used to write the inheritance to rightful heirs and do this because their return was not guaranteed as the journey was so treacherous those days, evidently.

Aggala is a sweet and peppery delight which consumed more than 2500 years by Sri Lankans specially while they are travelling in Cold climates. The pepper gives a burning sensation and that activates the heating system of the body. That's basically a portable heating machine.

In a road if u walking right side, vehicle driving left side.so vehicles are coming in front of u
But if vehicles drive right side , u walking right side vehicles are behind u so u should always turn around to see what's coming to your own safety✌️✌️❤

The natural scenery of Sri Lanka is really as beautiful as a fairyland, and the higher you climb, the more beautiful the scenery becomes, which is very meaningful!
There are Camino de Santiago in the West, but I didn’t expect that there are also pilgrimage route in the East, and the roads are more difficult to walk!
After listening to Abi’s explanation, I admired the pedestrians and local vendors even more!
And of course, including you, Tim, you are a kind-hearted warrior!
The simplicity, warmth and kindness of Sri Lankan people are really impressive, the smile of the lady at the end lit up the whole road!
Thank you so much for sharing such a sacred, beautiful day, you are a legend, super great job! 👍😍👏

    I learned one of the biggest lessons in my life when climbing that mountain. That is;
if we focus on finishing any task, it feels very big and harder to complete, and we feel disappointed. But if we just focus on what we are doing now and keep doing it without thinking of the result or the end, we won't feel much hardness and will be able to do it without realizing that we have already finished it.
In here, if we keep thinking about reaching the top of the mountain, we feel it's very hard and disappointing. But if we just focus on only the next step or a few steps ahead, we won't feel that much difficulty, and can reach to the top without even knowing it.
And it changed my life. ❤❤

what that guy is saying is ,there is a belief among some buddhists that buddha s foot print was located in 4 places in asia , one is sri padastan (which typically means the place of sacred foot) and there are 3 others in various places, swarnabhoomi
(thailand) , yonaka pura and one more
some believe yonaka pura means the place where meccah located now and they covered the footprint by a black box ,
some people think this yonaka pura was located in ghandar pakistan , so it doesnt have a exact place , its just beliefs of some individuals , Im not gonna fact check those

We took the shorter route. Set out at 11.30pm, got to top around 8am. Got back to bottom around 5pm 😆 we must have set the record for the longest climb in recent history. It was pouring for the last 3 hours or so. The view was incredible at the top and it was the most amazing view I’d ever seen. A bit like looking from a plane but even better as so detailed. Seeing the sun rise above the clouds was surreal. And hardly anyone there as it was Sri Lankan new years. In the olden days, people used to write their will before setting off as they didn’t know if they will make it back. They used to climb for days as there were hardly any steps and no hand rails. Interesting fact: the shadow of the mountain is seen on the clouds instead of on the ground as it usually would be. Someone who went with us but got up to the top before sunrise videoed it for us to see.

When you walk the opposite side from you drive you can clearly see what is coming from your front. If you walk to the same side you drive you can’t see what is coming from your behind spesialy in the roads, that is the reason why used to do that .i believe it is a good practice.

If you walk left. Since there arent pedestrian/ side walk path in many roads and narrow roads. You have to look back. So I think its the reason.

Tim This is the answer to your question about walking right hand side. " walking on the side of the road closest to oncoming traffic gives you the best chance of noticing an oncoming car. When you can both see and hear the oncoming car in the lane closest to you, you are able to judge the car's direction and speed more efficiently."
