I was on holiday in Brisbane and went to the game. I'm never really liked Wigan before then but after that performance I fell in love with them and supported them ever since. Back when Rugby League had something about it
I was on holiday in the lakes in wooden lodges. We got up early and they opened the bar for us to watch. I had my Wigan shirt on and my scarf and I was drinking orange or coke or something. It meant so much to me as a 13 year old watching it live. This is still one of my favourite Wigan moments in over thirty years of watching.
This was the only day I was EVER allowed off school was to watch an Anglo/Aussie contest in Oz. My dad would take the day off work and we'd watch it at Wakefield City Hall. I love the WCC and enjoyed this one in particular. Men and women of all ages were Wigan fans that morning.
Wigans greatest ever victory in my opinion...in the Broncos back yard and with only one recognised prop forward. I remember taking the day off work and driving 35 miles to watch the game on sky at The Boars Head, Standish. Good memories of a great team
I was there that night and had my photo taken with Offiah as they did the lap of honor. It was such a great shot Wigan RLFC requested a print of it to hang at the club. What a great night. I remember thinking how massive Tuigamala looked and he hardly played. Probably a good thing i saw how he used to destroy union players back then
Crazy to see the poms back then dealing to the aussies in these world cup challenges, and three years in a row! wouldnt happen these days which is a shame,we need more competion from the northen hemisphere
We really do but we need the Aussies to take it seriously. They take all our best players from the comp that develops them. Half of Canberra is Wigan lol
This was when the world club challenge meant something. I went to this game as a 12 yr old. 3 things stand out in memory, the first being that we (broncos) were awful that night. Soft defense. secondly, Greg McCallum (the ref) was awful that night. He really fucked us. although Wigan were clearly the better team, Wigan were offside all night and mccallum didnt call it once. thirdly i balled my eyes out when the final whistle blew lol.
@poitty1978, stats my arse, how many times have you won the WCC?, Brisbane 2 Wigan 3, you've won the final 6 times where as Wigan have won theirs 18 times, not to mention the Challenge Cup 17 times as well as dominating that cup from 87-95, and the Lancashire league 18 times, Lancashire Cup 21 times, i also recall Wigan winning the Middlesex sevens rugby union comp as well as another 25+ trophys from other comps, i think the Trophy haul of Wigan proves who is the greatest and it isn't Brisbane
I remember barracking for Wigan in this game ... and I'm an Aussie. The Broncos were an easy team to hate in the early 90's. Would have loved to have seen how they would have faired against the Illawarra Steelers (who were robbed in the prelim final against St George) in 1992 and a fully fit Raiders outfit in 93, instead of two weak St George teams. I believe the Broncos were relieved not to be playing the Steelers in 92.
Probably was the greatest team ever, but a what cost.. Funding that team all star team practically bankrupted the club 3 years later. The effects of which 15 years later the 'Greatest' rugby league club are just about getting over.
If only we could see a genuine contest between Wigan and Brisbane - a World Club final. Alas, it will never happen. Oh sure, a game might be arranged, but logistics dictate that one side would be out of season, rusty or tired, and away from home.
@bobnudd you beat us by 6 points 20 - 14what did we beat you by the year before? 18 points wasnt it 22 - 4 and not a pom in sight in the mighty broncos side in our hostory we had only ever signed only 1 pom where all english sides sign aussie / kiwi players. I hope Wigan come out here and play our best side in our conditions and see how they go i ll tell you now Wigan wont even come close 2 St George Illawarra in the World Club Challenge
@THEREALMONEYMAKER Tell me how they can be the best? They only had to compete against St Helens Leeds Bradford as their main opponents in england and still they brought their way to the top Wigan filled with Kiwis and aussies to go with a few poms where as the Broncos team was made up of juniors with a few brought in 1992 go through that team and ull find 13 of the 17 players were from the bronco juniors
So what happened to English Rugby League? The national side is poor and the overall standard of the professional clubs is still miles behind Australia.
@poitty1978 you see thats bollocks we bought our way because we slowly got better and better the hard way from the 2nd division in the 80s right up to world beaters in the late 80s early ninetys , there was no millioner buying our club we did it the hard way so dont talk shit.
@saeid54 The Kiwis will be tougher to beat than the aussies this year. First time they have had a full strength side for a long long time........England will be last one half and then it will be all overs
@saeid54 Mate i never said that wigan wasnt a good side this year they were and deserve all the aculadies they get they won the Super League. St George is a good side aswell but even the most one eyed Dragons supporter would admitt that over the last decade they have massively under achielved i wont say choked as they can only play as good as the coach coaches them they had all the talent in the world and until Wayne bennet came in they didnt know how to use it
why no 1995 challenge?? sorry wigan fans but this 1994 broncos side was certainly inferior to the canberra raiders side of 1993-94, a canberra (winners 1994) v wigan match would have been the true championship game. the touring kangaroos in oct 1994 containing 7 raiders played wigan, and beat them easily. it wasnt until 1997 that wigan played the raiders, with most of the players you see here. they lost 56-12 in the world club challenge.
I was on holiday in Brisbane and went to the game. I'm never really liked Wigan before then but after that performance I fell in love with them and supported them ever since. Back when Rugby League had something about it
even as a saints fan I have to respect this great wigan performance. a lot of rugby league legends playing in this game, great nostalgia
Wigan One of the greatest teams of all time, so many super star players
I was on holiday in the lakes in wooden lodges. We got up early and they opened the bar for us to watch. I had my Wigan shirt on and my scarf and I was drinking orange or coke or something. Broncos were decimated and had to play several games in quick succession. They also had a very poor season. The win by Wigan was not unexpected.
I was there that night and had my photo taken with Offiah as they did the lap of honor. It was such a great shot Wigan RLFC requested a print of it to hang at the club. What a great night. I remember thinking how massive Tuigamala looked and he hardly played. Probably a good thing i saw how he used to destroy union players back then
He runs away from Offiah and scores the try! Love the way the aussies pronounce offiahs name haha. Classic performance! Greatest team in the world.
Off-e-argh, ha ha.
I was there, one of the sporting highlights of my life. Legendary Wigan team that stuffed 82 points up Bath in the cross-code challenge.
And got stuffed in the union return match
@@NoName-hg6cc
Hardly, Wigan actually outscored Bath in the second half.
@@stephen1562 LOL no, in the union match Bath outscored and outsmarted Wigan. It outsmarted them in league as well
@@NoName-hg6cc
You obviously don't know what you're talking about so I'll leave it there
@@stephen1562 You clearly know nothing that game, so you run, when, if, you come back I'll teach you
Come to Australia, they said. Then we'll see who's the best, they said. You only win cos it's in England, they said. What a time to be a Wigan fan.
i remember watching this live, awesome win for Wigan
@JG-bw6lushutup mate this vid has nothing to do with football. What was the point in commenting that. Man utd are shit btw
Two superstar teams, 2nd and 3rd best teams after the 2023 wests tigers champions 🏆
Probably the greatest team ever.
I was there for this game. Allen Border was cruising around the field in a car before the game. Broncs would have won if that tough bugga played...
Probably the greatest side of all time.
Nah that’s be the 1998 Brisbane broncos.
I know Denis Betts!! hes by best mates daddy
he is exceptionally cool for a dad too haha
and he has a really nice doggy
(y)
hahaa
WHAT A TEAM!!!
these two teams are what you see only in grand finals ... only good team's can beat good team's
Robinson beat Sailor hear and then in Rubgy Union 9 years later ^^
All us Aussie league fans who didn't support the Broncos were cheering on Wigan.
how bad was big dell! he had a shocker.
Some legends in the cherry & white there mind.!!!
3:08 "He'll be the mayor of wigan!" haha
well done wigan true champ effort to beat the broncos in oz.
Warrior Came
Warrior Saw
Warrior Conqoured
We weren't warriors then.... We were Wigan. Wigan is a step above warrior

back when the poms had their own players in their teams...
someone should show the current team this clip so they know what pride in the shirt is all about
@poitty1978, stats my arse, how many times have you won the WCC?, Brisbane 2 Wigan 3, you've won the final 6 times where as Wigan have won theirs 18 times, not to mention the Challenge Cup 17 times as well as dominating that cup from 87-95, and the Lancashire league 18 times, Lancashire Cup 21 times, i also recall Wigan winning the Middlesex sevens rugby union comp as well as another 25+ trophys from other comps, i think the Trophy haul of Wigan proves who is the greatest and it isn't Brisbane
Wat a team wigan had then, remember, Kelvin Skerrett and Andy Platt missed that game through injury.

Check out Tuigamala...oh, the good ole dayz
Probably was the greatest team ever, but a what cost.. Funding that team all star team practically bankrupted the club 3 years later. The effects of which 15 years later the 'Greatest' rugby league club are just about getting over.
How great was that
If only we could see a genuine contest between Wigan and Brisbane - a World Club final. Alas, it will never happen. Oh sure, a game might be arranged, but logistics dictate that one side would be out of season, rusty or tired, and away from home.
Greatest team no chance
eventhough wigan had a brilliant team and deserved their win on the night the broncos team was the greatest of all time
they were happy days back then.
@warriorschris get 'em told fella
WIGAN, WIGAN WIGAN WIGAN
@bobnudd you beat us by 6 points 20 - 14what did we beat you by the year before?

I thought that Canberra beat Wigan 56-22 in the 1997 World Club Challenge match at the Bruce Stadium, and then beat Wigan 50-10 at Central Park,Wigan
Poor picture
So true...lol
well i do so tough shit =)
lol, notice with the aussie commentators the the wigan tries are always the result of brisbane poor play. Delicate egos
btw
raiders beat the broncos 26-0 a couple of weeks before this match
