These 2 play so well together. Her smiles and skills at the piano, and the way Ste'phane makes the Cello literally sing. He really gets into the soul of the music and literally becomes one with the instrument.
Such intimate and beautiful interpretation of this sonata. The cello is magnificent, and the piano is so enchanting... They are really great together! ☺️❤️🎶👍
Not many cellists would play this opening on the G string but Stéphane has always enjoyed soaring up to places where other cellists would fear to tread. When you have such a lovely instrument and the ability to produce such a glorious sound, why not?
@@DietrichStockman to be honest it's relatively subtle, but it's partly the difference in timbre between different strings and partly in the expressive quality of shifting high on lower strings which really makes the musical line sing.
@@igorgetmeabrain I just found out how to play it on the guitar, the basic is really simple, it's the same note played three times and then an open note. The most beautiful things are really simple like for example the Rosamund quartet of Schubert.
So replete with passion! The rich depth of the cello fills my soul with light. The last minute is pure heaven, winding down into an eternal sleep, it brings tears to my eyes 🤍
Amazing rendition by 'cellist and accompanimentist. I know this piece a cassette my nan had (in the 80s) of Julian Lloyd Webber's The Romantic Cello and loved the piece the first time I heard it.
I have only just found this version. Now, l am not a musicologist and my hearing is iffy, but l know what l like. This performance is ok but: The very attractive pianist is supposed to be the accompanist, it is not a duet. My ears suggest the piano is very slightly out of tune. Stéphane is a fine cellist with many years ahead of him. The best version of this piece l have heard is played by Steven Isserlis. He understands that this piece is very religious and l can sense this in his playing. The Gold Standard would have been if the late, great, Jacqueline Du Pré had recorded the sonata. Unfortunately, l have not found a recording by her, probably because in the 80s Rachmaninoff was not yet considered mainstream.
The cellist has some really phenomenal musicality and incredible phrasing but some intonation problems and vibrato which seems . . . "nervous" and is simply the wrong style of vibrato for this Andanté. It needs to be slower and wider but . . . Overall well played and beautiful.

Amazing performance. There is something so special about Rachmaninov’s music it always brings tears to my eyes.
Love the flow of the notes of the piano in this performance of the work. Feels very natural, compared to other performances I have heard. Bravo!
Sensational performance by the duo - superb phrasing, rich tone changes, and well-balanced, engaging dialogues between the instruments. Bravo!

My professor chose this piece for my cello exam and I've fallen in love with it since then
Rachmaninov never disappoints me. I haven't listened to anyone else play this piece, so I can't compare.

What's the difference with a normal version? Do you hear a real difference? I'm not technically skilled.

This performance is awesome and the piano accompaniment is wonderful.👏👏

Magnifique performance. Tout simplement.
Interpretação perfeita! Assistindo pela terceira vez seguida.
Merci beaucoup c’est magnifique.🌹
Sublime! What else does one want?
Beautiful playing that brings fond memories of Daniil Shafran to mind.
So haunting and infectious. Sit by a fire in the dark and reflect. Will colonise your soul.
Lovely and soulful performance. -Ron
Bravo!!! You got the intensity, the gentle touch and maturity needed to convey such powerful emotions.
Amazing piece, played absolutely beautifully. just in awe x
Such powerful emotion this evokes!
Echt heel mooi!
Vooral bij de herfst en het verlies, maar de piano lijkt af en toe op de lente te hinten.
Thanks so much!
Quite simply the definition of perfection! Fabulous!

L'interpretazione profonda ed enorme.
Grazie. ❤️🙏
you play beatifully :)
The cellist did have some over-the-top vibrato but that came in handy at the big climax in the middle
Best to listen without watching. Marvellous performance in my opinion.
best rendition for me.. thank you very much
Tres bien!
Absolutely magnificent ! Thank you !
Sensational and brilliant.
Beautiful - Thank you.
He even looks pretty similar to Rachmaninoff

full version of this?
Someone I love told me to listen to this piece. Sigh.
This is fantastic music with great interpreters. And the cello sound so beautiful. This song was never recorded on CD or digitally available?
oh sure plenty of times. it was composed in 1901 and is a public favourite

Sempre parece que um fala com o outro.
I would have enjoyed the piece a lot more and overlook the slips if there weren’t so much body movements
Music goes into your ears buddy.
Nice performance but your vibrato is far too quick. Need to slow that down for a better sound. Keep practicing.
