I've been a Michigan fan for 35 years now. I can echo what Rich said. He did what he wanted to do at Michigan. I knew when Staley was fired that he was probably gone. Nothing but gratitude for years at Michigan. He's the coach this franchise has needed for at least the last decade.

In the 9 years he was at Michigan, look how much the college football landscape changed. It is not what it was when he came to us. I am happy for him. And I am happy for us. I hate the NCAA and the Big 10 for what they did to help chase him off, and this is a big F.U. to those parties as well. But thank God we had him. And I was at your Captain game and you did great!

@@vw8886he’s been trying to get back in the nfl for last 3 or 4 years in fact he was almost the Vikings head coach they went into different direction kinda screwed him over. So maybe you can say he’s running from NCAA investigations but it was well reported the last few months before he even had his interview with the Chargers that this team would be the only reason that he would stop coaching at Michigan and if the Chargers in him didn’t come to an agreement he was going to go back to Michigan which means if he would’ve not came to the Chargers and went back to Michigan he would’ve had no issues answering for whatever alleged accusations been investigated for by the NCAA.

Forever grateful for Harbaugh and what he did for Michigan. Feels like he was the perfect guy in the perfect situation to stay at Michigan another decade. Would have LOVED to see him build the legacy even more.
In the end he wanted a Super Bowl more than staying at Michigan, which hurts as a fan of the university, but I respect his decision.

So my problem with all this is simple. People love Harbaugh more than they love the football program. I know harbaugh is bigger than the program. (His personality)
So folks are so happy for him… but I didn’t see Harbaugh doing what is best for the program, after his departure. He was always flirting with the NFL, and I have to believe that is why recruiting stayed around 15th or so. Why weren’t big time QBs drawn to play under harbaugh? What will the program look like when he leaves? Not good.
I’m more afraid of going back to Hoke and Rich Rod era than it seems 99% of the fanbase is. They are just happy to have climbed the mountain, as I was expecting to dominate the mountain for these 8 or so years. We finally plant a flag on the mountain and he bails. Is what it is, but the entire fanbase is all saying “nothing left to prove”
I didn’t think bringing back Wolverine football was something HE was proving to himself. I thought it was something he was doing for the good of Wolverine football.
I get it, he moved on, and I knew he would… but I thought he would have stayed long enough, committed to the program enough, that recruiting would be… at least top 7… that players would be wanting to come to Michigan over OSU…
Does anyone else think it’s a problem that we always get players that OSU doesn’t want? Why didn’t JJ want to come to Michigan first? Fix that problem and we can fix the program… but nobody seems to care about that.

@@jamesgoss1860 The niners and baalke benefited with high draft picks for Alex Smith, Gore, Staley, Willis, Bowman, vernon Davis, etc. What baalke couldn't do is draft top receivers. The Singletary coaching staff couldn't do much until Harbaugh came in and got the niners into the NFCCG in year one.

I don’t think Jim would leave unless he had the coaching situation sealed up well into the future. The AD and the higher ups at Michigan need to get over themselves and do everything they can to support the program rather than put a knife into it. I would hope Michigan learned a vital lesson with what happened with Lloyd Carr and the aftermath of the darkest era in its football history. Michigan football is bigger than all that nonsense and as it moves into the future it must remain focused on the task at hand.

@@ZackJorg context matters. A low level staffer broke archaic rules and did nothing to cover his tracks, so he clearly thought he was operating within the rules. Everyone tries to steal signs, football is not baseball, this is not the Houston Astros. No evidence was found that Harbaugh or players were aware of this scheme at all. And the most important thing is even if you do have a read on a play, you still have to execute your assignments. To thing Michigan gained even an appreciable advantage from this is pretty silly in a sport when literally every team is trying to steal signs and signs are so well-disguised you'd need a team of WW2 code breakers to figure stuff out. Essentially you're picking up hints of a hint of a clue and hoping you guess right. You still need to execute and you can still be out-executed.

The pundits all got it wrong over and over and it was glorious. This time, though, makes sense. The Big 18 and the NCAA were constantly up his butt while ignoring blatant rule breaking from other programs and OSU is using the transfer portal/NIL to Steinbrenner their next season. College football, going forward, is going to become increasingly unrecognizable. The most lucrative programs are going to be the only ones to win national titles and they're going to do it with entirely different rosters from year to year. You're going to see top high-school recruits spend 1 year with Michigan, 1 year with Alabama, 1 year with OSU, and 1 year with USC or Georgia.
