I find this funny because the original song isn’t even written in Italian, it’s written in Neapolitan, and it talks about a young man comparing his lover to a volcano and walking up the summit of a volcano with her.
It can be considered a very good thing. "Funiculì Funiculà" is one of the great treasure of Neapolitan music, along with "Santa Maria" if you like boating songs and "Tarantella Napolitano" if you just like to dance. Shame about that volcano, though. I'd like to ride that railway if it weren't buried under lava.

Production schedules are hell. This series had to sub in two recap episodes because they were falling behind. And I don't blame them with the quality of the tank battle animation. The 40 minute Anzio OVA was probably supposed to use those two episode slots. Break it into two pieces of 20 minutes, attach the opener and ender, a quick recap and pad out a little bit more character interaction and you easily have two episodes worth of material.
