  • Trace width changes to support higher currents, smaller gaps or controlled impedance traces. There are different places to set the trace width in KiCad 5.0, including the netclass editor.

Quick tip - instead of writting 0,006 you can write 6 mil or 6mil - KiCAD will automatically translate it to 0.006 value, IMO much faster to write than 0.006. Just write that all, click OK and reopen to see it works ;)

I switched to KiCad recently (coming from Altium), and your videos were quite useful to smooth the transition, thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

Another great video. I was struggling with track widths recently. Decide to attempt to design my own motor controller with kicad 5. Should be interesting

Good video. I was wondering though is there a way to change all or most of the trace widths at the same time. Say you route the board, but decide the trace widths are too small for the power and GND traces. So you create a couple of net classes. How do you change all the GND traces or the +12v traces to those net classes and have them update instantly? Or do you have to each and every trace be hand. Or do I need to rip up all the traces and re-route it using the new design classes in the design rules.

Every I make new project, why track width list only a minimum track width? Can I fill track width lists once and I must not fill track width lists again every making new project?

If you chose the wrong default track width at the start of a project, and made a whole board with under size tracks, is there a way to select all the tracks at the same time and increase the track width without having to select each segment and edit it individually? Maybe you could select a whole net?

Try using the "u" and "i" keyboard shortcuts, or hiding everything except traces and then select all dragging the mouse

It used to be, I could just hover over a trace, and press "E," and it would apply whatever the current setting. That was super great! It's so hard to change trace width after the fact in 5.1 :-(

I thought I had forgotten how to do that, but you say they removed that option? It was really easy to change track width on the fly

@@ferchuu9 There's a Pcbnew Preference you can set called "Edit action changes track width," that makes this better BUT then you lose the other functionality that was in edit, in case you also need that. This is a somewhat unfortunate collision, IMO.

It doesn't always replace that tracks when are placed actually :/

      I've also noticed this.
