I loved Lesney until 1969 when 'stupidfast' came out. If they only kept regular wheels, I'd still be collecting 55 years later. I understand the problem with keeping all the wheels separate on a big assembly line, but a superfast cement truck made me call it quits. Best wishes to all collectors!
This was fascinating and I'm sorry that this didn't get more views and no comments. I'm a small-time collector (about 1,000 pieces mostly 1-75). I do plan on "going back" and trying to complete my collection with the earlier "regular wheel" models I didn't pick up as a child.
I'm surprised that for the subject matter, there are views but not more comments. But in one MB online forum I post in regularly, I said that I had to realize the "regular wheel" era was now beyond 50 years ago, as I'm about to turn 65. I did "go back" and now have at least one of each 1-75 casting produced from 1953-82. I did venture beyond into the Lesney Superfast era, which Trevor did not.
The detail on the early matchbox cars was incredible for the size.
Best time for matchbox toys, 60s,70s and 80s.

I have been trying to collect Matchbox and Hot Wheels Cars from the era of my childhood (1970 to about 1985
)
It's ironic that Mattel took over Matchbox.
What scale were those early 'Matchbox' models.
No display of Superfast Matchbox cars?
I want that elephant
You are not used to showing them.
Guys with memories like this should learn about medicine, or work for the FBI
A video on the story of Hot Wheels cars would be great,too.....
